I am so tired of people who say all coupons are for junk!

Several coupons in the paper this week for frozen vegetables. Our local store had a $5 off $15 from the fish department which was nice, as well as buy one bag of salad and get one free. There was a coupon for a free box of cat food. Stopped in CVS to pick something up, and checked out the coupon machine and got $1.50 off any purchase.

for those who have wine tags, you might want to check your stores. DH got a bunch of $1 off $2 in fresh pork coupons the other day.

After reading this thread, I bought a Sunday paper just to satisfy my curiosity. There were indeed some coupons that weren't for junk food, even counting only manufacturers coupons. There were many for junk food too, so it seems that the key would be whether the user is selective in the use of coupons, just like any other shopper. I'll refrain from saying that coupons are just for junk in the future. I do think that many of the coupons are an attempt to encourage you to buy junk, but the same can be said for appealing packages and commercials.

I'm not sure what papers are around you, but usually the bigger city papers have better coupons than the smaller papers. My Chicago Tribune had the Perdue chicken coupon but the Lake county paper didn't.

Maggie

The coupons vary depending on area, even with the same newspaper. My mothers coupons are different from mine (I'm in Chicago, she's in the western burbs) and hers are different than her sister's (far nw burbs) though we all get the Chicago Tribune.

THe point is that there are no coupons for GOOD HEALTHY foods:

apples
bananas
fish
grapes
carrots
lettuce
broccoli
cauliflower
asparagus
green beans

FRESH foods not canned/boxed/processed foods.

Get it now? :confused3

I have a freezer full of frozen veggies, a stock pile of wheaties, and raisin bran, fridge full of yogurt, whole wheat breads, tortilla and pitas all purchased on sale using coupons. I spend pennies on shampoos, body wash, tooth paste and tooth brushes and hair care products. I use the money I save to stock up on meats and fresh produce that is on sale each week.

DD's friend printed me out a coupon for our PC store (good until the 23rd) from her Facebook page for $5 off $15 worth of produce.. Obviously produce is not "junk" - and with the cost of food today, it wouldn't take much to get $15 worth of produce.. Did you see that one?

----------------------------------

I've been printing off coupons like mad since I found all the good internet sites and since I'm not a "junk food eater" to begin with, I still managed to come up with a boat load of coupons.. Some even let me print out enough to share with DD and her family..

I don't get the newspaper, but depending on whether or not the price of gas goes down -or continues to go higher - I might consider running out to the General Store at the lake on Sunday's to get it.. (No home delivery..) I'm just not sure if it's worth it though because I've found so many great internet sites and the small (free) paper that comes in the mail up there has the store ads for the only two stores I would be going to once my stock-up supply runs low..

To everyone who pointed me in the direction of the few coupon sites that got me started - and led to me finding more and more (as well as registering at product sites for their own special offers), thank you so much!! :thumbsup2

Granted - it can be a bit time consuming - but I'm having a blast trying to reach that "number" I just pulled out of the clear blue sky to try to stick in one of my two savings accounts before I come back here to DD's next November.. No real reason to do it - no trips planned or anything - just a personal challenge..:)

Don't give up all you fellow couponers out there.. There's plenty of coupons to be had - and plenty to be had for food items that aren't "junk" and/or processed items (not to mention all of your cleaning supplies and such)..

And don't forget to check out all the great free samples that are available too for various items.. Earlier this evening I must have sent away for at least 20 different items - if not more..:thumbsup2

Yes, that's this weeks coupon..the fish one expired Sunday (you have to watch the dates on the FB coupons..sometimes they are good a day longer than their other coupons). They also sometimes have coupons on the wall of facebook.
On Thursday, the regular Pricechopper.com coupons come out, which are often also good.
Hannafords also has coupons on their website, but not as good as PC. I also get the weekly coupons from Ocean State Job Lot and some of them have been wonderful. Not fresh produce, but a lot of items I use.

So does he just go grab them off of all the bottles? That doesn't seem fair to the manufacturer or the people who actually purchase the product.

I still want to know what a wine tag is.

Basically if you go into the "alcohol" section (where they sell wine) you will see "tags" or what amounts to a piece of paper that encircles the top of the bottle. It will have a coupon that hangs on it. A lot of times it's for meat, etc.
If you google Wine Tag Coupon you can see several pics of what they are referring to.

I don't see them in our Wal-Mart but I have seen them at Hy-Vee before.:flower3:

Actually most are just tearpads in the alcohol section. Wine tag is just a generic description of the type of coupon. Not that they are on wine bottles. I'm in a no alcohol purchase required state. One thing has nothing to do with the other.

That is what bugs me the most. It is just one big old greedy grab. Anything for a buck.

oh cry me a river. You have no idea how many coupons go unused and to waste. My DH taking a few coupons off a tearpad for meat or cheese or snacks isn't making it or breaking it for anyone. They are for anyone who wants them. You have some serious sour grapes. Using a coupon does not = doing "anything" for a buck.

Someone is paying the price for your food. The idea that the wine company owes you free pork is just too wild a thought for me. And not just one, but many!!

I believe the "wine tag OP" lives in IN and in IN (and many other states) there is a state law prohibiting wine/beer companies from making customers buy their products to use rebates and coupons.
