I think my Disney days are over I can't stand up for more then 10 min

Sorry to hear.
Can you sit in a wheelchair or ECV?
You may not be able to do a standing tour, but there is still a lot to do even for someone who is bot able to move outside of a wheelchair or ECV.

Neither can I - So I started using a wheelchair and I have a better time than ever at Disney! I was even married there, and we scheduled it so I only had to stand for a few minutes. You can even see my wheelchair in the background of some of my photos.

There are always options - if you tell us some of your limitations, perhaps we could help.

No mamn they r not. Rent a scooter when u get down there. I had back surgery yrs ago and use one while at Disney. Just went on a cruise and didn't use one and the walking bout killed me. I never knew those ships were soooooo big. However Disney would be walking a LOT more walking so using a scooter is the ONLY way I can go. :grouphug: good luck

My standing ability is very little. You find ways around it. Empty the top tray of dishwasher--sit. Empty bottom tray--sit. You get the drift.

I have used either a WC or scooter for years at WDW. I usually bring my own because I can't do the walking in airports either! If you are having so much difficulty, your doctor should prescribe either a WC or ECV for you. It is only a matter of time before I am going to need a powerchair......and this time I am not going to be dragged to it kicking and screaming!!! I've come to realize (finally) that instead of taking away my independence, it gives it back to me!

Thanks for all of your support

Of course! It is what we are here for!

I am happy to share any of my personal story online or in PM if you need - After seeing as many doctors as I have asking embarrassing and personal questions, I have no personal shame anymore! ;)

Never try to handle physical changes alone - We all need someone to talk to! We are here for you even if you just need to vent!

Look at hte top of the page and you will find a disABILITIES community forum - you can talk about anything even non-Disney related! we totally get where you are coming from. If you look at the forum, you will see a lot of it is being able to vent to people in similar situations.

:grouphug: We are here if you need us!

I agree with Piper. You can still do Disney...rent ECV off site, at airport ask for wheelchair to transport you to and from gate, stay on site and use the buses...you can do it and have FUN!. I have bad knee and bad back...used ECV for last 3 trips, this year rent from Apple Scooter and it was great. Don't let your back ailment win find ways to work with it. I too sit to do alot of things.

can imagine how your worrying .My ds is wheelchair user but we never been abroad but he is used to it .

Where at the age of 37 I have now due to accident became wheelchair user am determined to do the trip still .But if a wheelchair helps you to be more comfy go for it

Disney is a very accessible place.I do not stand any more and found Disney a wornderful place.I am not as into rides as my kids(most also use wheelchairs) but I can tell you Disney CMs are wonderful making you feel welcome.

I agree with others here that if you neen to vent this a great place to find support.Thank you guyys for your supoort:grouphug:

We may not all have the exact same issues but so many of our issues overlap in having to come-up with new ways to do things. You might find someone here that has already come-up with ways to make it easier to do something.

I wonder if the cruise line will accommodate those with fibermialgia because I just found out I have it full blown

If you could be a little more specific, people will try to help you out.

There are fully wheelchair accessible cabins if that is what you are asking about. Different off shore excursions may or may not be very accessible, but you would be able to get around the ship.

I was hoping to rent a wheel chair for me and figure out a way to do the mandatory drill in the wheel chair

It is possible to rent a wheelchair from an off-site company and bring it with you on a cruise. They do make allowances so that guests who need to do the mandatory drill in their wheelchair can still do so.

Several regular posters who are full time wheelchair users have been on cruises. You might want to start a new thread about cruising with a wheelchair.

I copied this information about cruises from the disABILITIES FAQs thread for you (copying it is how I messed up the first post to this thread.)

Based on a recent cruise, I have started three threads related to DCL. They are:

Accessible Staterooms on DCL which discusses staterooms.

Accessibility Onboard the Disney Ships which has to do with the rest of the ship.

Third section, Accessibility in Ports, is still under construction.
Link to report on "Handicapped Friendly" excursion that was not.

Service Animals on Cruise is fairly self-explanatory.
Link to another Service Animals on Cruise thread.

There may be additional links in the future.

Here is a link to photos of one accessible stateroom (6154)

Link to Dreams Unlimited diagram of the Disney Dream (click on the picture to make it bigger - it doesn't get that much bigger, but you can see the little wheelchair icon).

Link to wdwinfo.com (DIS Boards 'parent' site) about DCL, including pictures.

Lots of photos of ECV on a Disney cruise. Includes pictures of ramps, DME bus lift, offship trip. (NOTE: the ECV in the pictures is one of the largest ECVs made; most ECVs are not this large).

Disney, and anywhere else for that matter, does not accommodate diagnoses, they accommodate disabilties. You would need to be able to state what you need to have that need accommodated. For example, if you cannot stand safely in a shower, you could ask for a shower chair or a bath bench. If you require the use of a wheelchair, you can reserve a wheelchair accessible stateroom on a cruise.

Be aware that there is no way to avoid lines or waits if you go to the park. The best thing you can do with fibro (I have something very similar to it and I am on fibro meds) is use a wheelchair or ECV to be able to conserve your energy better.

Sometimes things will be trial and error, as you figure out what your limitations are. It can be frustrating, but you can still do Disney!

To the OP no way are your Disney days done they have just changed, DW is only able to stand for 30 sec to minute and we do WDW once or twice a year with an 11 and a 9 yr old DS. We started doing Disney as a family before her MS diagnosis and we just had to adapt Disney is one of the few palces we travel were once the plans are made we know Disney very rarely drops the ball and it makes our trips so much more enjoyable. This Forum is a great place for info and support. Enjoy your future Disney trips and we hope to see you in the parks one day. :)
