We are renting a condo from some folks who bought our apartment when it went condo. Today they (the property itself, not the owners of our unit) were supposed to come in and put in new appliances. My BIL, who has been helping at my office while he looks for a job down here, stayed home to let them in and out, and make sure they didn't do anything "wacky".

Well, I come home and they are working on the water heater. They tell us that when they were attaching it, the seal broke so it was leaking but they could leave it overnight and fix it in the morning when it was "more convenient". Then, after watching it leak for a few minutes they decided, no, we had better fix it tonight because if we leave it and leave it on "it could blow". So the supervisor guy leaves his worker here to do this and heads to his son's soccer game (i heard him talking about it). It is supposed to take two hours for the glue to dry and they will turn our water back on. Well, the guy glues it and takes off for a bit. In the meantime I had let my DH know that we would need to go out to dinner because no water for cooking, means no dinner at home. My DH comes home and we are getting ready to go and the guy tells us that the heater is not sealing and that they are going to need to put in another one. He is calling the supervisor as we leave.

We come back to find a note that says: "Sorry. No water. We will have to fix it tomorrow" No number, no nothing. We have no water. We have two small children who need baths. We have pets that need water. We can't flush our toilets. We can't do anything.

I called night management and they told us sorry, there is nothing they can do either because this has been contracted out. They "will" pay for a hotel however, but it was 7:30 when we got here, by the time we packed up and got the kids stuff and got in there it probably would have been close to 9:00. And our track record with this prop management co tells me that we probably would have never seen that $100.00 again, so we are making do.

So so far, my brother in law has lost one days pay and will lose another because he will need to be here tomorrow, hoping they will show up and making sure this gets done. My kids need baths so my son will miss school (He's a boy and you know...they get messy!). I will be late to work and lose pay because I can't take a shower or wash clothes like I had planned to tonight.

I am so TICKED OFF!

Thank you for letting me vent. Had I known I needed to fill the tub for water 5 days before Wilma was scheduled to hit, I would have done so.

I'm sorry you have to go through this. They should at least reimburse you for meals since you are unable to cook.

That's a bummer, but you should send your son to school, anyway. The other kids won't notice whether or not he's showered.

Oh, I know. But I will know and I inherited that from my mom, my kids are clean when they walk out the door or they don't walk out the door. Same for their clothes. They may get messy when they are out, but they always leave the house clean and in clean clothes. It drives my husband nuts how many shirts I get rid of because they have a small oil stain or whatever on them.
