Just booked airfare yesterday on Southwest Nov2-Nov5 for $79 each way. I just looked on their website and the same exact flight, days and times are now being offered for $59 each way. So, I call and explain my situation. I am told that because it has been more than 24 hours, all I am entitled to is an $80 credit for future travel. Is this how it usually works? Has anyone ever contested this successfully?

Call SWA customer service, their number is on the website. Ask VERY nicely if it would be possible to have the money credited to your credit card. This has been done for many many people.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will wait a little while until I am under control;) Hope it works...the $80 would come in handy for the trip.

Many airlines will assess the change fee ($50-$100) against the fare reduction. In that case you wouldn't get any adjustment.

You can call SW back and see if they'll give you a credit card adjustment BUT you're still making out better than you would with other airlines.

You are lucky SWA will give you the adjustment withOUT a fee.

My fares for December on NWA went down over $100 each and I had to forefit $25 per ticket for my refund!!!!

Any wonder WHY I fly SWA whenever I can???

I would call back and see if you get someone different. Our fares dropped from $79 to $49 when we went in June and we eventually got the difference credited to our charge card, but we had to wait until our travel was complete. I called when the fares went down and the agent changed our reservation to reflect the price change and we were e-mailed a new confirmation. The confirmation number was the same but the price was different. After our trip, I called to make sure that the amount would be credited to our charge account and they said I had to send a letter to the refund department with a copy of the confirmation and then it would be credited. We did it and all went well.
Good Luck.

Others probably know this better than I do, but I believe if your original tickets were at a "refundable" rate, chances are you'll get a credit on your credit card......if they were at a "non refundable" rate, chances are you will receive a credit for future purchases...I'm sure there are exceptions to each but thats the norm....you can also review their website for additional info..
good luck:smooth:

Who are you mad at? If you purchased a nonrefundable fare, frankly the airline does not have to give you any type of compensation because the price then dropped. I understand that some do, so it's always worth a shot (i myself have called & asked for vouchers after an airfare drop), but I don't think anyone should be mad at the airline if the price difference isn't refunded. It's a gamble you take when you buy airfare - fares change every day, so there is always a chance that the price may go down after you've purchased - just like it may also go up. I'd say it's worth another call to see if any refund is possible, but if they say no, be happy that a voucher is even being issued - some airlines don't even do that anymore without charging a change fee.

Same thing happened to me....

Booked 4 tickets at $79 fare, and 5 days later, the fare went down to $49.

It took a couple of phone calls, but I wound up getting the difference of $120 credited back to my card.
Basically, it's a matter of getting the right person willing to help more I guess.

For our June trip our flights went down by $10 per ticket. We had 7 so I did call and the SWA agent just walked me through rebooking the same flight we had at the new reduced rate and now I have a $70 credit for our next trip. It was easy and the rep was very helpful.

Prompted by your post I checked our fares again (originally booked in July) & found that one of the legs of our trip went down by $20. I just called & the representative told me "no problem!". She explained because it was a re-fare (no changes to the itinerary) they would issue a refund to my credit card for the $80 difference!!

Good luck & thanks for reminding me to check today!
Christine

drgnfly.... that is how I ended up with the problem. The agent that was helping me on the phone told me I needed to cancel my exsisting ressie and book a new one at the lower fare even though there were no changes in my itinerary I did this, which than made it a new ressie and therefore I would only get credit. I did call back, explain the situation and finally got the $80 credit back to my credit card.

Consider yourself lucky if you got a refund of the difference. We always fly Spirit. If the fare goes down 20 minutes after you book, they will give you ONLY a voucher. No refunds, period. We have a $130 credit from our last trip in March. I wish Spirit would refund differences!!

Why do you want it back to your card? then you loose the excuse to plan another WDW vacation!!! LOL!!!!

BTW, the same thing happened to us although not as quickly. We were originally booked at $79, then they went to $49 a few weeks later. I rebooked and still have the credit which we'll use for our Feb trip when they finally release those dates.

Actually I didn't care either way - I would have gladly taken a voucher for the $80!! Unfortunately, I promised DH that our next vacation would be far away from Disney :(

Christine

The voucher would have been fine with me, if it were just me traveling or me and my family. However, I am traveling this time with my friend. How was I supposed to split this? Give her $40 out of my pocket? Or wait till one or the other of us flew again and then buy the other's voucher? It just sounded like a pain. The credit back to my card works out better in this situation.
