I Am So Mad At Dvc Ms Right Now!

I called for my short notice reservation Jan 2-8th 2008, The first women I spoke to said that there was nothing available and put me on a wait lit for all properties (this took like 15 min on hold!) then she came back and said she wanted to make sure i knew I would have to borrow from 2009, I said ok. Then she sent me to a different women to see about booking at a non DVC resort on cash, and this women, (who was a lil rude) said HOW ARE you gonna get the wait list you have no points! and I said, I was told to borrow 2009 and she said, well you have a oct use year, you can borrow 2009 until the vacation is in oct 2008, !!!! I am new so i didnt know this! so she cancelled my wait list, and there are no properties available at all!!!! I am so mad! is she right??? I can borrow 2009, for jan 2008 with a UY of Oct?? I am so mad that other women kept me on hold so long and then to be cancelled! Now I cant go! NO ROOMS ANYWHERE!

Not quite sure I understand......

Oct UY - right now we are in 07 UY so reservations made in Jan 08 would use 07 points if they are available. Or you would have to borrow Oct 08 UY points to cover the Jan 08 trip. I believe that the 09 UY points can only be borrowed when we are in the 08 UY.

Sorry to hear you had some grumpy CM on the phone though.....

Yes, she is right. You can only borrow one year in advance and that is from your use year. You could borrow for an Oct. 2008 vacation using 2009 points with a use year of Oct. For a January 2008 vacation using 2009 borrowed points your use year would have to be January. It is confusing sometimes especially when you are new at it. You can re-read your member materials and it is explained on the DVC member website too. Sorry it didn't work out for you for this January. That week is also pretty busy because of school vacations and New Year's.

I am confused. Are you mad because there was no room, or are you mad because of the information you received on borrowing? (or both?)

I am not surprised you did not find a room for Jan 2 through the 8th with this short notice. As to borrowing points, of course you can. Did she say you couldn't? Did you already borrow all your points from next year?

Browniemtb, I assumed the OP had already borrowed and used all of their 2008 points in 2007. There are two 2007 trips listed in the poster's signature. You can borrow 2009 points in use year 2007 but they must be for a vacation within the one year span of your use year. For example in Oct 2007 I booked a trip to BWV for March 2008 using borrowed points from 2009 - I have a March use year. My reservation is for March so it is within the one year borrowing span. Did that make sense?

Yes this makes sense because you are booking in your UY month. But you would not be able to borrow any 09 points prior to you hitting that March 08 UY, correct? So one would assume the OP did already use all the 07 and 08 points, so to borrow 09 UY points you would need to be in that Oct 08 UY month or at least be able to travel after that point and follow the booking windows. Yes??

Just to add to the confusion... you can borrow 09 points to use for a trip in your 08 UY, while your still in your 07 UY, if your within the 11 month window of the trip

Unfortunately there are some MS CMs who do not know the rules as well as they should. The best protection against this is to learn the rules yourself so that you will know if a CM is giving you incorrect information. Then you can either ask for a supervisor or just hang up and call again and hope you get a different CM on the next call.

In this case, the second CM is correct. You cannot borrow points from your Oct '09 UY for a trip in your Oct '07 UY. I think it helps to look at your points this way:

Your Oct 2007 UY points are valid for stays from 10/1/07 - 9/30/08
Your Oct 2008 UY points are valid for stays from 10/1/08 - 9/30/09
Your Oct 2009 UY points are valid for stays from 10/1/09 - 9/30/10
and so on

A trip in Jan 2008 falls within your Oct '07 Use Year. If you had any banked 2006 UY points, they could be used for that stay. You can use 2007 points for that stay and if you need more points you can borrow 2008 UY points into your 2007 UY to use for that stay. You cannot borrow Oct 2009 points into your 2007 UY however. You can only borrow from one year ahead of the UY into which your vacation falls.

Also remember that once you bank or borrow points, they cannot be put back into their original Use Year.

Just for those of you wondering about ANY time in January. There are also no 2 bedrooms available system wide for the last week of January. I too was not surprised at this, but I just wanted to pass the info along.

I def wasnt surprised about the availablity, I knew chances were slim, there were rooms four days ago, but as you know that can change quickly, I def didnt expect to get them , I just wasnt thrilled with her attitude, especially when I told her " the woman I just talked to told me.." and she SNEERED back "What woman?" in a nasty voice ! Ugh that made me mad lol.
I did get to go online and i booked, Jan 2 at ASM, Jan 3 at CSR, and Jan 4-8th at POP, So at least I do get to go hehe, then I will be back Jan 21 for a Two bedroom at SSR, So all is not bad HEHE
