I am near despair: tell me your best Fireworks tips please

I've been stuck with scores in the 230,000 range for months :sad2: I finally hit 241,000 and I came in first place. I was so angry my husband couldn't understand why :confused3 I have all the patterns in memory, but I coming to believe the fireworks pin will never be mine. I keep trying and I'm banking a lot of points, so I guess it could be worse.

Out of curiosity, has anyone here done well enough to get a fireworks magic pin while playing on a Macintosh? If so, what hardware and system?

I'm wondering if Shockwave on the Mac runs more slowly than on Windows for otherwise similar levels of processing power. I seem to recall that when I last played fireworks, lag was an issue.

D'oh! That's what I have. Couldn't play without someone to move the arrow keys without a mouse, so I got a cordless and thought I was all set.

I have noticed some lagging in the game, but thought it was something else.

Sigh.

.

I have a cordless too.. I'm out of luck though, all our computers have a cordless mouse. :confused3

I read this thread and it helped me a lot:

I use a wireless mouse. I noticed it was lagging a bit (this was before I earned the magic pin), then I put some new batteries in it and that helped.

I totally agree with not having any other programs running while playing, I exit out of everything else.

My average score has consistently moved up since I started playing, it just takes practice! There were times when I seemed to be stuck at a certain score, but I just kept trying. I remember all those CLOSE calls and how frustrating it was! LOL! I now have 4 fireworks magic pins. And I would have scored above 250,000 last week, but I stopped at just above 240,000 to make sure I got the pin. (I went into the last round with 235,000.)

I thought I'd NEVER get that pin! And look at me now! Just keep on trying you guys. :)

(I just need to do as I say for the pirates game! I am AWFUL at that one! I swear I'll NEVER get THAT pin! lol ;) )

I have the pirate pin for several of my characters. (I just haven't bothered to do it with the others.) If you want help, PM me and we'll arrange to meet. If we play with only 2 people we'd be able to get you that pin in no time. :teeth: I like playing the game and don't much care what level I play. It's more fun for me with other people. ::yes::

I will happily take you up on that offer!!! ::yes:: I haven't played pirates in quite awhile, so I'll play by myself a few times, maybe today if I have the opportunity, to warm up. lol Anyway, I will be in touch with you! Thank you piratesmate!!! :goodvibes

Posted this on another thread but wanted to update:

Thanks so much for the tips and links. Watching WDWTiggerRT's video of a 280,000 game is inspiring to say the least.

Just from what I've learned so far this week I've broken through the 230,000 mark and am consistently now scoring over 220,000, which is almost 10,000 more points that a few days ago.

Thank you Thank you!!

Could you post a link to the video? Last time I tried, bandwidth had been exceeded, and I've since lost the link.

Thanks!

So, it seems that one tip is to have memorized both the entire sequence of fireworks, as well as knowing the locations.

Okay, this just made me :rotfl:. That would be waaayyyy too much work for me . I'll keep playing Fireworks, but I'd rather sit around in people's rooms and talk to them and never score 240,000 than bother with memorizing the sequences :faint:. But good luck to those of you who have that much time and patience ::yes::.

Exactly KristaTX -- this is why it's been, I think, around 3 or more weeks since I've even been in a Fireworks lobby, lol.

But someday, when I'm all lonely in VMK, I'll try fireworks again.

Edited to add: OK, I just watched for first round of that movie. Maybe I won't bother ever playing fireworks again, LOL!

I don't think it's quite memorizing the locations and what fireworks are coming up and whatnot. Because honestly, I don't have any of the firework sequences memorized. I think its knowing the fireworks selection bar backwards and forwards, having a pretty fast computer, and understanding the relationship between the speed and trajectory of a fireworks symbol. That and having really good hand-eye coordination. =P

Fireworks is the only game requiring reflexes that I've ever been good at. But if it's not the thing for you...don't go crazy over it. Craziness should be contained to other things! =)

And lots and lots of practice: if you've ever taken piano lessons, it's like that. Seems like you are never going to get all the parts together until suddenly things click that you aren't even aware of. Your brain expects the sequence after lots of practice.

I won the pin today on my birthday with 248,000 points thanks to this thread, all the tips, and LOTS of practice. You can do it! :flower:

Today, I finally switch from my wireless mouse to a regular optical one and it made a world of difference for me - even on my laptop (vs. the desktop). Now, I just need to play with someone who will beat me now that I'm scoring over 240!
