I agree totally! I was appalled to see that people voted for those amendments regarding banning gay marriage. Talk about a blow for equal rights. In my opinion it's none of their business what two people choose to do, how do they have a right to determine it and prohibit them from marrying and enjoying the benefits that traditional married couples do. Well this election has set us back, that's for sure. So much for stem cell research and scientific advancement, so much for equal rights, before we know it roe vs wade will be overturned and women will die getting back alley abortions. Not to mention the radical conservative supreme court judges that will be appointed under Bush. Well won't life be grand, America home of the free? (with restrictions of course) I just can't believe how this has turned out.

Mr Adams, as always we have the right to say what we want to say. And if any of us believe that discrimination against gays is wrong, we have the right to say so. Of course, you also have the right to tell us that we are wrong but not to tell us that we can't say what we want to IMO.

I'm discouraged too. I fully expect plenty of new warfare and lots of backwards steps now, all in the name of fear. I pray that I'm wrong but I suspect that I'm right.

But that aside, what is the big deal with allowing same sex marriages? I've never understood why this privilege would be such a threat to anyone.

For the umpteenth time, MARRIAGE IS NOT A RIGHT!!!! The states voted. They defined marriage as a contract between a man and a woman. Anyone, gay or heterosexual is now free to enter in to that defined contract. No one is being discriminated against.

Unless or until someone can prove that homosexuality is the same as race, i.e. it can't be chosen (and Anne Heche disproves the genetic theory) then there is no discrimination. And even if there was, then each state is free to re-define marriage. If it were a right there wouldn't be laws defining it.
