I feel so relieved but also very nervous. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Aug., started chemo and ending up in the hospital after each of my first 2 treatments, had surgery, finished chemo in January, started radiation and finished on Wednesday. My oncologist told me to make an appt. to get my port out (yippee) because he is very optimistic. I just made my consultation appointment for reconstruction surgery and my hair is about an inch or so long and maybe I can ditch the wig by summer.

I have decided to stop worrying about the return of the "c" and enjoy day to day living.

Congratulations on your success!:goodvibes

I don't cry easy but your post made me tear up. My mom died from metastic breast cancer 13 years ago. It is so great to hear of someone beating it.

I helped my dear Mom, a BC survivor, thru her BC battle 17 yrs ago, so am well aware of the toll it takes on the patient and family. I praise you for your accomplishment of treatment completion, your of amazing strength as you more forward in your life to happier times. Please do something special for yourself to celebrate! Godspeed and keep up that positive attitude, my Mom's faith and strength were her Godsend :flower3:. My heart and prayers go out to the many who've fought their battle bravely and haven't been as fortunate, as this is truly every woman's nightmare.

I finished my treatments 2 years ago and adopted this philosophy also. I'm currently waiting on CT scan results because my oncologist thinks the big C might be back. You have to live every day to its fullest because it might be all the time you have. I'm more concerned about having to cancel my upcoming trips to China and Egypt because I'm not letting life pass me by.

Congratulations! Two of my best friends are cancer survivors as is my grandma. The one thing they all had in common was a positive attitude. I really do think that it makes a big difference when you stay positive.

A large group of my friends got involved with the American Cancer Society with my two friends to try and show some support for them and all of us have continued to be active members of our community's Relay for Life. I am not a survivor but I can say that for both of my friends getting involved in the Relay has helped them mentally because they feel like they are actively fighting the disease instead of passively hoping it never comes back.

Perhaps doing the same will work for you.

As for how cancer effects family, have you ever read the Fat Cyclist's blog? It was started by a guy named Eldin who wanted to lose a little weight and started biking. His wife Susan was diagnosed with breast cancer and has since died but his dealing with that was a large part of his life and blog for a while and is an inspiring read.

I hope every day brings you joy. You more than earned it.
God Bless,
Nancy:hug:

Congrats! Enjoying the rest of your life sounds like a great plan to me! :goodvibes

Congratulations! Keep up the great attitude! I have no doubt that a positive outlook and determination helped my mom get past her battle - more than 20 years ago now

Good luck Pakey on your results. :wizard:

Prayers and good wishes for both of you :goodvibes

Good for you, OP! I decided to live my life one day at a time since my experience with breast cancer 28 years ago. It has served me well. I don't sweat the small stuff and try to get the most I can out of each day. Look to the future and enjoy being back in the swing of things!

That is wonderful news!!:cheer2: I am always excited to see stories like yours. Stay positive and celebrate life!!

Your post is an inspiration to me. I also am a bc survivor. Over a year away from chemo now. For some reason, I've struggled with losing the port. Seems to be a little mental hurdle for me. Sigh. Just beginning the journey toward reconstruction so I imagine that will be the time to remove it now that I'm this far out. I'm a tad freaked about the whole recon process, but determined to do it! Congratulations to you, your post made me smile! HUG!

OP the BEST News I heard all day!!!!
