1. My 20th wedding anniversary is in August... I did book a stay through RCI ( yes I have or am in Rci + not happy with them right now) a stay at AKV but I just found out that I cant and they had to cancel it because my home resort is in a less than 30 miles so I cant...Didnt know about this until today...

2. I am curious how much and how do I go about trying to get a 1 bedroom or a studio at one of the resorts? I want to do this as cheap as possible...I just got back to work due to a sick grandmother... so I really need a vacation and to celebrate my 20 year marriage as cheap as possible... but I want to stay on site...

3 What is the best way to go about this ... or I have to stay off site and not have that magical feeling..

I really hope someone can help me...

Thank you in advance...

Have you checked out the rental board? Maybe you could rent points?
Congratulations on your anniversary!

Yes, cheapest is definitely renting points from a DVC member.

You can also try and get the same reservation for cash through the standard Disney reservations process, but it won't fit your cheap criteria.

Are you RCI points or RCI weeks? This is the second time I've heard (3rd unit) that RCI canceled a pending reservation for this reason. It clearly says as you go through the exchange info that members who own Orlando/Kissimmee area resorts can't trade in. It appears they're holding to the strictest interpretation including RCI points members who trade in and/or RCI weeks members that own a banned unit but actually trade something else. They really need to figure out a way to handle this on the front end. With the Mayan resorts they will only let you put weeks on hold online and require you call to confirm to make sure none of these rules are violated. They should likely take a similar approach with DVC as well if they can't figure out another way. At least II had it hard coded into their system so you didn't even see the units.

Your best bet for this is to stay off site at possibly Bonnet Creek or one of the other 5 or 6 top rated resorts available through RCI that are not DVC.

Like I said... I am points.. and this is the first I have heard of this... they said that dvc had put in there contract that anyone who owns with in a 30 mile radius can not get it...

Rci is not charging me any points for the vacation.. but they are keeping my money and letting me choose where I want to go...

I have thought of The Reunion Resort, Royal Palms and Bonnet Creek...

I really hope they get this fixed...

Thanks to all who have answered me...

I love you all...

I didn't see where you stated you were RCI points, still don't, so thanks for clarifying that. To my knowledge this is the first restriction that has carried over into RCI points but is c/w the info seen on the screens as you exchange in online. I don't think there's anything to get fixed as it seems to be a permanent fixture of DVC's involvement with RCI. The other person that had this happen, 2 units, immediately sold his Orlando ownership, we'll see if that works for him, it may not since sometimes the association of the owned resort will linger long after the resort itself is gone.

The top non DVC RCI resorts will be the 3 Hilton's (new one opened last week), The Fountains, Vistana Villages (if it's still listed with RCI), Cypress Harbour, Oasis Lakes and Bonnet Creek IMO. Brian had a couple others he like but these are the ones I'd put at the top. I would not put the Royal Palms personally because even though it's a Marriott and fairly close, it's not on the same level with the ones I listed.

Let us know what happens and if you get any additional info.
