I work from 4-11pm - my office is in my home so I usually have coffee when I start my shift - that's when I crave sweets the most.....Any suggestions?? the only thing I have done so far is allowing myself 1 pc of chocolate or 2 Snackwells cookies(the only sweet for the day).

Any other suggestions?

I would suggest the sugar free jello with whipped cream. Since I started Atkins I eat some almost every day. There are also some low carb chocolate, the one I liked is the chocolate p-butter cup, for sure not close to a reeses but it works. :D

Sounds like you are on WW...so the whip cream is probably out for you...but the SF jello is good.

The reason that you are probabaly craving sweets at that time is due to a drop in your blood sugar. I would say, try and skip the coffee and drink some water (flavored would be okay too). But if you must eat something...try having something with less sugar (like a cookie) and more fiber or protein. You could try some lowfat cheese on whole wheat crackers. I would stay away from the sweets when you are craving them....that is the only way I have been able to "change" my habits.

Good Luck

LifeSaver popsicles=10 calories, no sugar and 2 grams of carbs. You could even have two ;-)

When I feel the need for a sweet (usually at school, about 1pm) I pop one of those Werthington candies. It is a hard candy so it lasts a long time, and really satisfies my sweet tooth.

However, it is better to skip the sweets altogether as mentioned above, and switch to a high protein snack. A low-fat granola bar (check the points before buying - some are ridiculous!) may also work!

I think it's the coffee that triggers me to have something sweet - I didn't make cofffee yesterday - stil go hungry at that time but had a small salad and water instead - I am so proud of myself!!

Good for you, Paula!!!! I was going to suggest trying to eliminate sweets and sugary things as well, but you beat me to it by DOING IT! I think the coffee probably triggers your desire as well. If you don't mind them, try having some baby carrots around to munch on (sans dip!)

I think if you cut back on sugar gradually you will notice you desire it less and less. Then when you DO have a sweet treat, it will be a very intense flavor. I noticed now that I don't add sugar to my foods and I try to stay away from processed foods with lots of sugar, that everything tastes better to me. Fruit tastes really sweet, I especially love cherries, grapes, nectarines and pears (in moderation, of course!)

Just continue what you are doing. There is no nutritional benefit from sugar, so you are really doing your body a favor by elminiating it as much as possible from your diet. :)

Thanks TigH....another of my downfalls is that except for strawberries and bananas I absolutely hate fruit....but I am trying - I have been eating 1 banana/day - that's a start.

I drink a diet Dr. Pepper. It tastes really sweet to me and satisfies that sweet tooth that I get after dinner.

dis fan - what plan are you on??? it helps to put it in your signature for posts such as these ;)

anyhow - I felt the need to pipe in here, especially after reading Karen's post - now she is right (darnit!) but she is also not a snacker or sweet tooth and I am so I'm totally there with you!!

I agree that cutting back on the sweets will lessen your desire, but when you really need something - how about Smart-pop Kettle Korn?? very filling (4 pts for bag) and not super sweet to intensify the craving. I like all the HC/Smart Ones ice cream treats (2-3 pts), but sometimes they taste soooo good and that makes it harder! On the WW recipe thread I posted a recipe for blueberry muffins that I make for breakfast, but they are just a tiny sweet (not sweet at all compared to other muffins!) and only 2 pts each. I make a batch and freeze them all - just defrost in the microwave. Sounds good with a cup of coffee ;)

but if you're cutting out the coffee to break the habit - then maybe something like a tootsie roll pop (1 pt) or peanut butter on celery?

I try to find something with a hint of sweetness to satisfy the craving without escalating it:smooth:

thanks.....I'm not on amy type of specific plan - just trying to eat healthier and cut down. Trying to find the right foods to help me feel "full".
