As stupids as this is, I should shut up about it but it may save your life. 2 weeks ago Sunday was very rainy at IOA. We had on ponchos and we actually just stayed on rides and went around and around-no lines at all. Anyway I held my camcorder under my ponco with my left hand, pulled down my hood with my right hand and tipped my head down and to the right for the final plunge-therefore not holding onto the log at all. As it descended I started to rise out of the seat (I was in back) further and further (even in the few seconds) trying to hold on with my feet-I thought I was going to either fly out or hit my head on the tunnel but I'm sure it was not that close. When we hit bottom and went back up the second incline I came back down and slammed my head on the side of log and put a big gash and welt on my forehead. What an idiot. HOLD ON TIGHT NEXT TIME YOU GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, I've tried not holding on before (in the back) and I honestly thought I was going to fly out too!

jade1 I am glad you are okay. As crazy as this sounds, this is a recurring nightmare I have. I often dream I am falling off a log time water ride so your post really gives me the heebie jeebies. For some reason though, it does not stop me from riding :>

This ride scared the crap out of me (not literally...lol). I have never been so scared in all my life. I screamed the whole way down. And I didn't think the drop would ever end. It took me a good hour to get over that ride.
But what's funny is, the next day we went to MK and went on Splash mountain......after riding Dudley....this was a wimpy ride....too funny, huh?

What I think really freaks people out about Dudley is that you start going down and then the slide steepens by another 5 degrees on the way down. So you do get the sensation that you are losing control on the way down.

However, it is completely safe. Gravity pushes you down into your seat. It's also pushing back deeper into the seat so while there is movement it's only towards the back of the log. Yes, you should hold on anyway, but no one's ever fallen off the ride yet.

The few times that folks have fallen off a flume ride (Splash Mountain and the flume ride at Mall of America's Camp Snoopy) was deliberate (or, in the tragic case at Mall of America of someone standing on their log because they wanted to get out before the drop). So enjoy it. Freak out. But it's all good and safe fun.

Sometimes people put their hands up on that drop. I'm too scared to, even though I know I wont fall out.

Though I have never been on Dudley...and never will....I have defintely felt that sensation!

Mine was at one of the Amusement Piers at the Jersey Shore. It is a feeling I can never forget! Of course, there were only two of us in that giant Log, and I am sure that attributed to it.

I can't say I enjoyed that feeling of fear, and RARELY go on any log flumes, unless they are FULL of people! I tell the kids once every five years (lol).

It is truly teriffying for some of us, and it is nice to see some others who have felt the same way! I was really beginning to think I was the only one. Of course, I wish you didn't have to suffer through it!

I would never let go on that ride although I have heard they put in new seats on the ride recently?:jester:

If you're seated properly but have your arms up on the way down, can you fall out?

Do u really want to test it:p not me I enjoy the drop because I am relieved I am still in canoe but if I see someone passing me I will know u tried it:jester:

No. You can not come out of the vehicle by natural forces on this ride. Originally, ride testing was conducted to prove this, in Germany and on site.

However, if you do fly out, I heard you get an island named after you. Heehee...just kidding...

Jade1!!

Your poor head! Ouch!

In 2000, I went on with my very light 6 year old and was so happy that my dh told me to have an arm around her and hold on with the other. She was flying (and loving it), I was freaking while the wall of water was blinding us.

So sad that it was closed on our Feb 2002 trip (not really lol) The things I do for my kids.

A long time ago, one guy fell into the water in Jaws and almost got devored by the shark. He got a whole theme park resort named after him. Let me see if I can remember his name...ah, yes...it was Walt Disney. I wonder what he's up to now. :)
