I'll be driving in on 75 to Florida's Turnpike. On the map, it appears the it would be much shorter and quicker to exit the turnpike on Highway 27 and go through Clermont --- rather than driving into Orlando. Does anyone have any experience with this? Highway 27 looks like a main highway, but I don't want to get into a terrible surface road with lights every 200 yards.

Thanks for any input.

I saw this route suggested on this board a few years ago and we began using 27. We love it. It is a very good road and you don't have to get on I-4 which can be horrible.

Some advice from a local. Take I-75 to the FL Turnpike. Get off exit 288 and proceed south on Route 27. This will take you on a scenic route through Clermont. Not to worry, it's a 4 lane divided highway with for the most part a 65 mph/105 kph speed limit. There's very little traffic, and although there are some lights, there aren't many. You'll pass a couple Publix grocery stores, stop for bottled water and snacks. They have good selection and prices, and aren't crowded with tourists.

Just south of Route 50 watch your speed, the cops love to sit in a couple of parking lots in the area with radar in the reduced speed zone.

You'll take Route 27 South for about 30 miles, the exit ramp for Route 192 is clearly marked with not only the route name, but it also says "Disney World". be cautious on the ramp, it's a harder turn than it would appear.

Follow 192 east for about 5 miles, a bit after mile marker 5 (Big purple "5" sign on lightpole) you'll be making a left turn onto Sherbeth. Follow Sherbeth to the traffic light and make a laft if you are headed to AKL, right to go anywhere else on property.

Timewise it will save you during rush hour, it's about the same otherwise, but it will save a couple dollars in tolls and keep you off of I-4, which is terrible any time of the day or night.

Thanks to both of you for responding. I knew someone on this board was from Clermont. I'm glad you happened to see my post. Thanks again.

Might mention that at the left turn onto Sherbeth...there is a McDonalds, so that makes easier to notice when to turn. Going onto US 27 has been my life line from the traffic tieups on I-4 more times than I can remember. Also on 192 you pass a lot of places to eat and shop if you need anything before going onto WDW.

I take the 27/192 Route all the time when going to WDW, I turned on Sherburth Rd once, but must have missed a turn as I was dumped back out on 192.

If you miss Sherburth Rd, World Drive is just a couple of miles further.
