Hi, I have searched the web, and so far I haven't found any construction in the area. We will be driving through Dallas next month on a Friday around rush hour, and I am hoping to avoid any construction.

So Dallas people, is there any? Also, do the HOV lanes have exits fairly regularly? We will be getting on at Farmer's Branch and getting off near I-20.

Thanks for your help!

I live closer to Ft Worth, but as far as I'm concerned, driving on 635 is fate worse than death. I don't think I've ever been on it that it wasn't jammed, and that wasn't even at rush hour. I don't know about construction, or any of that stuff, though. Good luck!

No construction on 635. :cool1:

You'll be able to get in the HOV lane in Farmers Branch, and stay in it until you get almost to Mesquite, where it ends several miles prior to I-20.

Exits are frequent, but I wouldn't recommend getting out of the HOV lane if you are just passing through, as it can be hard to get back in during rush hour, especially if you are not familiar with the highway and the locations of the HOV entrance/exit points.

Huge caution... be prepared for people to ignore the "DO NOT CROSS THE DOUBLE WHITE LINE" law. Most of the HOV system on LBJ is only separated from the regular lanes by 2 white painted lines, and drivers cross them FREQUENTLY instead of waiting for the entrance/exit areas.

If you are planning this journey during evening rush hour (4:30-6:30pm) the regular lanes will pretty much be bumper to bumper in that direction for most of your trip until you get through Mesquite.

Anyway you can delay your trip? Even an hour or two later or earlier will help with some of the traffic. It's beyond miserable on that stretch of freeway, esp on a Friday! (I grew up in Mesquite and worked all over Dallas before seeing the light and moving to FW!).

What time do you think the rush hour time frame ends? We are driving to Marshall, TX that night and hope to make it by 10pm. We are leaving after school that day...3:30ish. We could stop for a dinner just north of the Dallas area.

Any alternate route ideas????

Actually, we are getting off at highway 80, which then meets up with 20.

Highway 80 is a good choice but watch your speed!

Driving on 630 is a crap shoot. Sometimes it moves pretty well and at other times it just stops. You just have to muddle through it, there's really no better route.
