I-4 construction, Sunpass & trailers

We only go to Disney/Florida every 2 years, but we got a Sunpass for our last trip and loved it. It was quick and easy to order ahead of time and get in the mail. Loaded with $25 or so, and when we got home I think we owed $0.79 or some silly amount. I called to pay with my debit card, and asked how it worked if I had a zero balance on it and explained how we only use it every so often. The nice lady told me it just goes inactive with a zero balance, and when we're ready to head that way again, I can just log in or call and add funds to it, and then it's active again. It just sits stuck inconspicuously on my windshield under my Texas TollTag. :) It is nice to not have to stop for the tolls, (although there aren't many anyway.)

If I am driving down I-95 and take I-4 is that a toll road now?
The Florida I-95 and I-4 are not toll roads.

I have both EZ Pass and Sunpass, when I inquired about pulling a trailer they both said I did not have to add the trailer, or go to the next level of payments just as long as I only pulled trailer a couple of times. They would just charge my account accordingly.

My brother-in-law is a DVC owner and also has a vacation house in tampa so he has the portable transonder because he uses it in his car and in rental cars a lot. He already told me I could borrow it for our next trip and he would just let me know what I owe him when I get back. Awesomeness!!

Just out of curiosity will we need to move the transponder to our car when we are going from the fort to universal and/or other places inside Orlando? We are going to put both the motorhomes license plate and the jeep's license plate since we will be towing the jeep on the way down.

If you take I-4 from Disney to Universal or Sea World you won't need a transponder, but there are pently of toll roads around Orlando but a GOOD GPS will plan routes where you can bypass tolls.

You won't need to take I-4 to get to Universal / Seaworld. Both are easily accessible by going out the backway from the Fort. When you exit the Fort, turn left onto Vista Blvd. Stay on that road till you get to Winter Garden Vineland Rd. then turn right. Seaworld is about 8 - 10 min. and Universal is 10-15. Both are very well marked so you won't have to worry about missing a turn.

I read on another thread that a years long overhaul of I-4 has started and one poster said they purchased a Sunpass that saved them from getting caught in a major traffic snarl.
. . . absolutely
. . . most of the superhighways in the area are toll roads
. . . soon, I-4 will have express lanes that will have a toll
. . . plus, the transponders can now be used for tolls in Georgia (Peach Pass) and North Carolina (NC Quick Pass)
. . . as an added inducement, SUNPASS use is cheaper than paying cash at the tollbooths

What does everyone here know about this construction?
. . . we use it, and would not be without it

Does anyone know if a Sunpass would work when hauling a trailer? Extra axels usually mean higher tolls. Is there anyway to program the Sunpass to the number of axles I've got?
. . . as mentioned above, rates are set the number of axles, not size or weight
. . . you can go to the SUNPASS website and there is a built-in cost estimator
. . . you can click the number of axles and you can see the estimated cost for any tool in Florida

FROM SUNPASS WEBSITE:
Can I pull a boat/trailer?
A: When towing, you can use the SunPass lanes. The toll for additional axle(s) will be calculated and deducted from your account balance during subsequent use.
If this can be done, what's the best place to get a Sunpass?
. . . almost any drug store or supermarket in Florida
. . . Sunpass.com has a full list of sales locations

So, if we are coming down I95 and do the 407 to 528...where do we get off? Do we use 417? I'm trying to plan out tolls since we only have an EZ Pass; I want to have exact change. I found a website for tolls, but I'm unsure of what route we would take.

If you come down 95 to 407 to 528 stay on 528 and follow signs for Disney. You will end up on I-4 but only for a couple of miles. I figured toll cost to be about 4.25.

Thanks for the directions. We are 4 axles with the TT, so I think it will be more.
