Staying in Siesta Key (an hour drive or so south of TPA) last two weeks in Dec. Am considering flying into either MCO, TPA, RSW, or SRQ. I was just wondering how long it would take to drive from MCO to Siesta Key (Sarasota). On mapquest it states just over two hours. But I suppose mapquest knows nothing about the construction on the I-4 :rotfl: . Does anyone know when the construction is due to end (if ever  )?
Also, is there also ongoing construction between Tampa and Siesta Key that anyone can tell me anything about?

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Construction is still going on. It will be continuing into next year. They work around the clock. It usually takes 2 hours but depending on the time of day it could take much longer. Especially at night they block off lanes so allow extra time.

I would allow for almost 3 hours from MCO to Siesta Key, just to be safe. If you do it at night, allow closer to 4. They have lane closures and rolling roadblocks at night.

Heavier construction can be found around Lakeland and the intersection of 4 and 275.

Thanks for all the info. Maybe I should just try to fly BUF-TPA, but SWA DING fares seem less expensive for BUF-MCO.

We have now booked BUF-MCO . We will be arriving at MCO around 10:30 am Saturday December 17 and then driving down to Siesta Key.

Can anybody give me an update on how the construction is on the I-4 between MCO and Tampa?

Also, DH is dropping me and the kids off in Disney Dec 31 (its funny when I first started this thread we were to fly home on Dec 31) for 8 nights. How long should it take us to get from Siesta Key to Disney (leaving Siesta Key around 9 or 10 am) Saturday Dec 31st? DH has a 4 pm flight at MCO.

Any info. would be greated appreciated.

Map quest says it is only 2 hour 19 minutes from MCO to Siesta Key. Perhaps the program knows nothing of the current construction situation.

Thanks

Siesta Key should be 2hrs to Disney if you head over in the morning. We're going to be in Sarasota that last week of December (heading down Christmas night) and are driving home on the 31st (spending 1 day at Disney enroute.. i LOVE detours). Last time we were there (last Oct) it took 1 1/2 hrs from Sarasota -> Disney, and construction was just about what it is now. Lakeland is the heaviest area as the construction is the most there.

Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the info.

Off subject: this will be our first time in Siesta Key. So far we have planned to get unlimited passes to Busch Gardens (and visit 3 or 4 times), MOTE, pelican man bird sanctuary, the drum circle, Myakka State Park and maybe the mineral springs.

Any things else we should see while in the area?
