I was wondering if anyone can give me some insight into AM rush hour traffic on I-4? We are staying at SSR and have an 8am tee time in Deltona next Monday. Taking I-4 eastbound would be the most direct route, but was wondering what kind of AM rush hour traffic I can expect going through Orlando? I was thinking of leaving around 6:30am, hopefully getting through Orlando by 7am and to Deltona by 7:30am.

Is this reasonable, or do I need to leave earlier? I suppose I could always go around via 417 Greenway, but that's a lot of tolls. Thanks!

It can get pretty bad going through the Downtown Orlando area but I think if you leave by 6:30 you should be ok. I always like to err on the side of caution and might leave a bit earlier.
What kind of phone do you have? I downloaded an APP to my iPhone called "WAZE". It's a navigation system that relies on its members (drivers, just like you and me) to report current traffic situations so you have a more realistic idea of what kind of travel time you'll be dealing with.
Hope this helped :)

I grew up in Lakeland, south of WDW on I-4, and w ent to high school in Winter Park (northern suburb of Orlando, not as far as Deltona). I-4 eastbound traffic is nasty during morning rush hour, when everyone is trying to get into Orlando to get to work. I vote for 417/Greenway. Yes, there are tolls, but to me it's worth every penny to relax and enjoy the drive. Christmas night this year, heading to Winter Park to visit a friend, I-4 was completely gridlocked for miles. Hopped on 417 with barely another car in sight. Then there was a severe accident at one of the exits that completely blocked the road. Sat until the second medivac helicopter showed up, realized it was going to be a long time, crossed the median, turned around and went to the previous exit, took back roads to the exit just past the accident, and smooth sailing once again. It should only take you an hour, give or take, on 417.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will give I-4 a shot, leaving a little earlier than 6:30am and watching traffic on Google maps on my phone. If there looks to be a problem, I will be prepared to bail out onto 417 (or 528 or FL Turnpike over to 417).
