Hypothetically speaking...

What would you do if you had a friend who you knew (he/she told you) cheated in a contest with a purse of around $50,000, and their cheating has them in the running for the prize? You are not in the contest, but you know some of the people who are, and even if you didn’t….. would you turn them in?

No, seriously, I don't know what I'd do. I don't think I'd say anything unless you can absolutely prove it. But like said above, I'd think different of that person.

i'd mind my own business because the person telling you this may,in his own mind, see this as "bragging" to you & it may not be true at all.

Well, they don't necessarily, but quite honestly I have no idea why this makes a difference. It's akin to stealing, and that's not excusable no matter how bad you need money.

I appreciate all of your opinions, and am anxious to hear more. I probably won't do anything either, but just wanted to know what other people thought. A couple of additional points....

This is a very good friend... not just an acquaintance, and I know that's it's true and not just a brag. Just the very nature of the contest, what happened, etc..... plus, it would be of no benefit to "brag" about something like this. It's not "heroic", it's actually pathetic and says I'm not good enough to do this without cheating. It's a contest of skill, so to cheat says you don't have the skill.

I've definitely lost respect, and the win will mean nothing to me. If you can't win without cheating, you apparently weren't the best at it, and therefore the "trophy" is meaningless.

I wouldn't even consider 'telling' unless I could prove they had cheated. If they are willing to cheat in a contest to win $50,000 then they are willing to lie about the cheating too.

Even then I don't think I would do anything about it but I'm not telling you that's what you should do, it's a decision you have to make for yourself. I feel like I am unable to fight every immoral thing people do in this world so I try to limit my fights to those things that have more at stake than just money. But I would tell my friend how wrong I thought she was for cheating.
