Huzzah! Exchange Index Updated 7/16!!!

Hiya!!!

In response to a few thoughts put forward by other Exchange Participants recently I've sought out a possible solution to the problem which sometimes befalls us - forgetting to sign up for or send off a particular exchange!

Please can you all give it a test run and see if it works for you and let me know! If it's successful I'll keep it up :)

Basically you need to go here and click on 'Register'.

It will ask for a 'User ID' - NB: I would really appreciate if people would stick to their DIS names, this will help me with the admin of the calendar. Thanks!.

Next give a password and the email address to which you would like DIS Exchange reminders to be sent.

When you have pressed submit you will be taken into the calendar. From here, if you click on a date on the left and it has an exchange either sign up closure or send out deadline relevant to it, they will be shown. For example, I have put in all sign ups that are currently running and all exchanges for which the send out date has not yet passed. So you could click on 10th September.

I have coloured the events the same way as the index. Sign up closures are in red and send out deadlines are in blue.

I've included links back to the sign up threads and sent/received threads as well.

Now then, say you want to be reminded two days before the send out deadline for each exchange you sign up for only - this is what you do...

Go to the deadline date (once it has been entered in the calendar, I shall strive to update this at the same time as the index to be easier for everyone!) then click on the 'Reminder' link. This will reconfirm the email address and let you select how many days before the event you want reminding. Simple!

Do this for all exchanges you sign up for, I think you can even get multiple reminders for example - you might want reminding every day!! Just set up a reminder for 10 days before, 9 days before, 8 days before etc etc.

Please let me know what you think of this and how I can improve the service. Exchange organisers work really hard to keep everything moving along, I only hope this can help make the job a little easier for them!

I've included a link to the Index and a link to PM me at the top of calendar as well.

Cya,

Has anyone ever done a gift exchange with gifts for children? I thought that might be a nice idea. Maybe one of the letter exchanges could be for kid's gifts or we could start one. You could include your child's age and sex with your name/address for the exchange. It would be one child per exchange and you could sign up for more than one.

I think that there has been one or two exchanges for kids in the last year. We have five that signed up for the A Exchange, ages 9 - 14. We are having them exchange with each other. If anyone has kids out there that would like to join in the B Exchange, please sign them up.

hi sarah

I still have the stuff from my exchange if you need the help starting one.Just think of something people would like to exchange with others and start either a sign up thread or a gaging interest thread to see how it goes

Yes there was Christmas exchange for kids last year. Don't know if it's being done by anyone this year tho.............maybe you'd like to have a go;)

Hi, Sarah! There was a request from the person that does the annual ornament exchange that we keep exchanges to a minimum during the months of October and November. She's aware that a Yankee Candle and the alphabet exchange will be going on at that time (they have already been planned). I believe that we were going to try and honor her request by not opening any more during that time. The ornament exchange gets very large (twice or triple the size of normal exchanges). Last year got very confusing. Some people sent ornaments with their other exchanges and the receivers didn't know where to post. It was hard for her to sift through everything.

As far as starting an exchange, you just pick an item and open it up for sign ups. Or post a thread with different ideas and see what most people are interested in.

If I were you, I'd either start one now (before the end of Sept.) or wait until after the first of the year.

Is the Christmas Ornament Exchange going to happen?... I cannot seem to find where to sign up...

It's on page one of this thread. Just click on the work "link".

Just a gentle reminder that there are only 6 more days until the mail out deadline for the Calendar exchange.:yo-yo:

Still have a good few to be sent out.

I'm gaging interest in a candy exchange for after the first of the year(sign ups in the next couple of weeks)

signups for the candy exchange are closed, names go out in a matter of hours

OH NO:eek: Me of all people missed this one.....are the names all done yet?????

Not that I have one, but how about an Italian charm bracelet exchange. That could be fun.

Anyone have any idea of how to get ahold of Waffles? There are some issues with the Spring/Summer Exchange and she has not been on since 3/26. Is not checking PM's either. HELP!!!!!
