My DH just heard on the radio that they are talking about a strike in 3-4 days at WDW???

We are leaving on Sat. Anyone have any clue about this?

I had read other threads about the possibility of this but thought it sounded later than next week.

Thanks for your info!!

My brother's leaving tomorrow and he's not too worried. According to him, both sides want federal mediation, and if that's what they end up doing, then the strike won't happen for a while (if it happens).

I'm sorry if I have an imperfect understanding of the situation - I'm just trying to remember what my brother's logic was for not worrying about the strike and that's the best I can do.

Disney and the unions hired a mediator - and magically the union reps now support the new contract. Of course, it needs to be voted on again. The last contract vote was declined by a much smaller margin than the last votes. So if you take the 3000 people who voted 'no' on the last contract and figure how many people would ACTUALLY strike (remember, it's a Right to Work state)... the number is pretty small - and it would be offset by interns & part timers working full work weeks and other people seeking overtime. So, it's nothing to really worry about. Have a great vacation!

thanks guys...I didn't think it was too much to worry about from what I had read...

but when DH turned on the news and heard it he said "go ask on the DIS you're on there all the time anyway!!!"

keep in mind that not every Cm is in the union, lots of p/t and CPs there too who would still be at work

And not all full time workers are elagible to stike. Only those from any the unions that vote the contract down by a large enough percentage. Plus, many would not strike. If a strike were to occur, the only major area that would seem affected would be bus drivers. Also if they were to strike it wouldn't be untill into the second week of December. They cannot stike under their current contract, which expires near the middle of December.
