Ok I posted on here a few days ago about my DH maybe being deployed, we got the offcial today he is going in January for 4 months, then coming back home and going again in Sept. for 3 months. We were planning to back to Disney Sept 2008, but that is when he will be going back. Anyway, he thought maybe we would go after he gets back in December around Christmas time. How cold is it then and how are the crowds? I want to go in May 2008. Same thing...what is the weather like and how are the crowds? I am down in the dumps because the last two years we went in Sept and got the free dining, now for 2008 that will be out of the question. :headache: :sad1:

The crowds are insane at Christmas time. It's the busiest week of the year. Plan on LONG lines for rides and food. Gridlock on Main Street. Some parks may reach capacity and close for part of the day.

Is there any way you could go in late January/early February instead? If your husband is just getting back in December, he might find the extreme crowding to be a little unpleasant. Heck, I'd find the extreme crowding to be unpleasant. :) The crowds drop off significantly after the first week of January.

If you decide to go in December, I would choose the first two weeks of December as the crowds are lighter ... as you get closer to Christmas the crowds get higher ... we have gone in December for the past two years and we are going back this year too :goodvibes ... the weather can be a little tricky in December ... in 2005, it was generally in the mid - upper 70's during the day & sunny :) and in the 60's at night ... however, in 2006 it was a bit cooler during the day & night for a few days but than warmed up by the end of our vacation ... we love going in December because of the Christmas decorations and Christmas themed activities (i.e. MVMCP, Candlelighting Processional, etc.) ... I've never been to WDW in May, so I can't help with any info there ...

I wish your husband and your family well during his deployment ...

Enjoy your trip :goodvibes ...

First of all, I thank your husband for his service to our country. Second, I would go whenever you can, because whenever you go to Disney its great!

Ok so maybe Christmas will be out then. We didnt even think about goin Jan or Feb after he gets back......but honestly that is too long to wait for me. Do you know how May is, or maybe the end of April? This is so frustrating to me not knowing when to plan going.

Thank you for your kind words...you made me cry for the first time since I found out about him going.

I agree :thumbsup2 , and by the way, my hubby left 6 weeks ago:hug: So far it seems to be going pretty quick, but he won't return until Dec. 08. (R&R in April08). We (ds-12, me-42 and my mom) are going to WDW Dec 8-15 of this year. I guess we'll have to go back in Dec. 08 when DH returns!!

Whenver you can go to Disney World means that your husband is home and safe. So don't worry about any of that now. Unfortunately, you will have other things to think about before January. When he's gone, THEN start planning because you will need the diversion.

For now, be with your husband. And I pass along my family's thanks to him. And to you and your family. Your husband will be having a tough time in the next year and you will be too. Military spouses are to often "forgotten". You won't be.

I certainly hope that after January, we hear a TON of planning messages from you.

You know what...you are right...I think I will stop with trying to plan when we will be going to Disney next. I will just enjoy him while I can....Thank you for pointing me in that direction. I think though that Disney is my excape right now to kind of get my mind off of him going, but I also dont want to excape the reality that he is going. I need to get prepared and I need to get the girls prepared (maybe). They are 5 and 2 years old. I know it will be hard on all of us. Thank you again.

My son is a Marine got back safe from Iraq---- Thank your husband of keeping us safe... Disney is Great --- But less crowd's is always better .. Are you staying at SOG?
Have a wonderful time --:)

tvp....good luck to you and your family, and thanks to your husband for his service.

My husband left for Iraq 11 months ago, and he is due back in 39 days...so I understand what you're going through. Hang in there and be proud of him!

Don't plan anything for now, would be my advice....Christmas is WAY too crowded to enjoy. And when he's home, look forward to that SOG stay! (We are going in January, can't wait!)

WHY AREN'T THERE ANY FLAG OR STAR/STRIPE SMILEYS ON THIS BOARD?!?!?!?
:)

1) You might also want to try to take a mini-vacation this year.
2) Until 31-Dec-07 (and maybe next year ?), you get in FREE
. . . all Busch Gardens theme parks
. . . all Sea World park
3) The service person and up to three dependents get a day FREE admission.
4) You close enough to at least do Busch-Williamsburg.
5) Either way, best of luck to your hubby.

NOTE: It would sure be nice if Disney would do something like this. If they feel the whole family would cost them too much, at least the service person could get in free.

Shush...don't give away our secrets.:ssst:

Good luck to your husband. What branch? Retired Army here.

Back on topic: Early December, January, February and May are all good times to go. Good luck again.

BTW: I think the free entry only applies to Active Duty personnel.

Thank you everyone! He is in the Air Force. Only a few more years until he can retire.

I know you said that you won't get to do free dining, but have you thought about staying at Shades of Green? If you haven't stayed there before, ou may want to consider it. It's a deluxe resort at a value/moderate price (price depends on rank). My DH is also Air Force and we are staying there for the second time in May.

By the way, next year will be our third year of late April/early May, and we LOVE it. Warm enough to swim, after spring break so no big crowds, and during the Flower and Garden Festival so everything is beautiful!

Hi, yes I did consider staying at SOG but I am afraid of not having that "Disney" feeling at the hotel.
