Husband being deployed

As others have posted thank you to your husband and your family. You have giving so much of your selfs for the rest of us. My heart goes out to you. I know it is tough my DN just got deployed for the second time. He just turn 21 over there. But I would go to Disney when ever you can. Do not worry about crowds just enjoy

Hi, yes I did consider staying at SOG but I am afraid of not having that "Disney" feeling at the hotel.

We have stayed at the Polynesian, the Contemporary, Boardwalk Villas and SOG. While SOG is more subtly themed, it is very nice. I think that most of the Deluxe and Moderate resorts don't have a particulary "Disney" feel, at least not the way All Stars does with the more in your face characters (not that this is bad). The service is great, and the rooms are HUGE! Now, would I pick the Poly over SOG? YES, in a heartbeat if the price was comparable, but for our stay the Poly would be more than $3500 more than what we are paying at SOG (my DH is a Major). I just can't bring myself to part with that much money!! I tried to figure what it would be if they have another military disount (this most recent one was 40% off), and it would still be a difference of over $1500!

Maybe you could stop by there and have a look while you are on this trip, so that you know how you feel about it for a future trip. You could pick up tickets while you were there, and ask to see a room.

First of all to ALL of you wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, sisters, aunts (you get the picture) THANK YOU!!!!! for your loved one's sacrafice and for the sacrafice of you and yours.

TO OP!
Enjoy your time with you DH now, Start planning while he is away the first time for a May trip. Lovely time to go, weather is good, plenty of swimming and I hear the Flower and Garden festival is lovely. Lower crowds too as most parents aren't pulling their kids out of the last weeks of school. The south gets out earlier than we do in the Northeast, so try an earlier May if you can! What ever you decide, come back here and let us help you have some diversion while your DH is deployed.

God's Speed to Him! Enjoy the next few months before he goes and serves our blessed country! We are blessed to have men and women willing to do this for us!

My DH just got back in July. Our trip in Sept was our "welcome home Daddy" trip and planning that starting in March got me through the rest of the deployment. That's when I found the DIS! LOL

I would try for a May trip after he gets home the first time. And another trip for when he comes home for good!

I agree, you cannot beat the room rates. This is why we're doing SOG this time around instead of GF or Poly.

We are paying $1,100 for 7 nights at SOG...that includes the SOG dining plan (breakfast and dinner buffet).

That is $157 a day for lodging--and two meals--for 4 people. (Yes, I have heard their food isn't that great...but for that cheap price, I figure we will get our money's worth even if we only eat breakfast there!)

How can you beat that? Certainly not at another deluxe property!

HOOAH Army! 39 days until DH is home...

I applaud all of the military wives (and husbands for that matter) that are keeping your families and lives as normal as they can be while your loved ones are deployed. My "baby" brother is coming home from his 3rd deployment within the next few days and I couldn't be more relieved to have him back on American soil! Your strength is humbling.

On that note, I think these are red white and blue pom-poms! :cheer2:

Please send a Big Thank You to your husband for his service and for helping to keep our country safe. Enjoy your Disney vacation whenever it may be !!

I wasnt aware that SOG had a dining plan. After reading some of the oher posts about SOG..maybe we will consider it.

I just want to say Thank You to everyone that is behind my husband and our country. I am truly surprised of the responses that I received on here. I know most of the people on the Disboards are wonderful about helping with Disney, but never realized how thoughtful and caring you all are. Thank you again!

Ok someone said that the pom poms are red white and blue, and since I guess its as close as we will get :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

When you call, ask about the OEF plan (Operation Enduring Freedom). It adds the dining plan to your room rate and gives you 20% off the (already cheap) room and 20% off the dining plan.

You really can't beat it...to qualify to get these rates, your husband must be deployed for a certain amount of time (I believe 12 consecutive months). But call and ask!

I guess that wouldnt work for us because he wont be gone for 12 full months. I guess it wont hurt to ask though. Thanks.

My sympathies -- my DH has been deployed since April and we got word last month he's been extended another six months. So I know what you're going through  ! Email helps a lot, as does instant messaging, and webcams are wonderful for the little ones.

But back to your original questions. We were at WDW last Christmas from the 19th to the 26th. It was crowded but not as bad as I had feared, but we made a point of getting to the parks early (extra magic hours, though painful at first really helped getting on rides with very small waits -- like you we prefer disney hotels rather than SOG). We then would relax at the resort in the afternoon and return in the evenings.

DH was lucky enough to get some leave in August and we met up in WDW. Again very crowded (more crowded than Christmas, I think, though it may have been the heat making it feel like that!). For the most part we followed the same plan as at Christmas -- getting there early and leaving early and it worked even better because then our girls got some undivided Papa time. We also took advantage of the Neverland Club so that I got some Papa time as well! Another plus of staying on site.

Good luck with everything.

Thank you for your service to this country. Have you considered going between deployments? I think the early part of May is a relatively low crowd time...after the spring breaks and before the southern schools get out for the year. The weather is hot, but not anywhere near sweltering.:)
