I was on the ride on 4/30 during EMH about midnight. As we neared the deboarding area we became stopped. Thought they were helping someone get in or out of the log, but it took a really long time.

Maybe 10-15 minutes, CMs came around and said we'd be doing an evacuation exit. We were close to the maintainence area, and were lead out that way. We could see the boarding area, and there was medical staff their tending to someone. People in a log that were stranded in no mans land were still their and said they could hear someone screaming.

Anyone know what happend??

If you don't want to read all 23 pages...

Three kids on Splash Mountain, no adults with them. Supposedly girl's foot gets wedged in front of the inside of the log, somehow she wrenches it too, and they have to take the log apart to free her.

Father posts on DIS from his onsite resort how WDW is doing nothing for them, he wants a free trip, etc. Doesn't accept wheelchair for girl, sits in room with entire family and sulks. Didn't like service at ER, either.

Posters sympathize, posters blame girl, posters blame father, etc.

This really does sum up the 23 pages I read pretty accurately :thumbsup2

I still don't understand how she got her foot stuck in there, i've been on this ride loads of times and I never noticed anything to catch my foot on :confused3 but we hope to go at christmas and boy will I be examining that ride lol

A separate thread started by someone who knew a CM at the ride that night indicated the stuck foot 'stood up' prior to the big drop.

The original thread came up right before our trip. We just got back today and I did *not* take the opportunity to go over the 20+ pages. :) Anyway, I took DD on Splash Mountain and wound up in the front seat, so I took the opportunity to check it out. There is indeed a small gap between the vertical and horizontal bits of the log (not sure how better to explain that....) where your toes are. However, you'd have to really work hard and get the right angle to get wedged in there. With a little wiggling, my big running shoe made it in maybe an inch or two at most. I suppose that if you slipped and had just the wrong angle, you could jam your foot in there. We've ridden the ride before and never noticed it, though - it just isn't large or where you'd normally have your foot.

As I recall he wasn't looking for a free trip or a lawyer until posters suggested it. And I do belive they tried to get out to the parks but her foot hurt too much. Unfortunate, accidents do happen. I never sat in the front of the log (too chicken I guess :rolleyes1 ) so I don't know where her foot got stuck. I will look for it if I ever gain enough courage to ride in the front...i know...i'm lame!

Ditto -- on pretty much everything posted above: original thread right before our trip; got back last night; took DS on Splash; ended up in front; small gap; could get tiny bit of toe in; etc.

maybe the stuck girl had tiny skinny feet in flip flops??? or maybe the log was messed up and the gap was larger than normal?? :confused3 it must have happened if they shut down the ride

If something happens on a ride, it is shut down. They may need to do an inspection, may not - but then to start up the ride, they have to go through a whole procedure, and do a "dry run" of all the cars ( or logs in this case ) empty one full cycle before guests can go on it. May have just left it closed if it was towards the end of park hours.

It was my daughter that was injured on splash mtn that night.

I just love how some people distort the truth though. I posted it because disney was doing nothing for us. I was not out looking for a free trip, a lawyer, nor did i sit in my room and sulk.

I came here for help, as i thought we were a big happy family of disney fans, and what happened. I got flamed by about 30% of the replies saying that she lied and stood up and we were wrong and there was no gap.

It was suggested to me to get a lawyer by posters. I only asked questions of that after that was posted on here. I did not sit in my room and sulk-do you know that i did-were you there?? I was in the room posting because i was looking for help on what to do since this has never happened before to us. It was my step daughters first time there ever, and no, it was not magical for her. It was day 2 of 9 there.

She braced herself for the drops in the 2 little ones, and managed to somehow get a few toes stuck in the crack that is up there. she almost got them out, but when the big drop came, it got wedged in again and further because she braced her foot for the fall. She had flip flops on. There is no rule that says those are not allowed. This time her toes were wedged in really tight and she couldnt get them out. They had to evacuate the ride and physically take the front of the log apart to get her out. The story of hers and my 2 sons all matched. If she were standing, im sure disney would have mentioned it by now which they have not.

When i called the next morning after she got out of the hospital at 4 am, the claims dept would do nothing for us at all. No ECV or nothing. She had to be in a wheel chair most of the trip, and if not in that, on crutches, which she is still on.

The third day after it happened, claims finally called us and started talking to us. They got her story and were satisfied with it. They said they would like to settle before we go home. We said we will probably have to take her to our own dr when we return home because of the pain she still had. We did not settle because of that im sure.

Monday she went to the dr. Got xrayed and a tetnus shot which they said should have been given to her at the ER. She also has no feeling in the bottom of part of her foot now.

We are awaiting the xrays any day now and hear what the dr says to do. They suspect a broken toe or two. Disney called yesterday again and i filled her in. They are now mailing out a medical release for us to sign so they can get records from our dr and the bills. We were told while in WDW that they had a check for us for the ER and medical bills already. They are supposed to call us back on friday to see what the dr tells us.

I do again thank all of those who posted all the great positive replies and wished to my dsd. It made her feel better. I just cannot believe how the others say all i want is to sue disney. That was suggested to me and i asked if i should call one since they were not helping us. I guess i cant even ask a question here.

Am i bitter over this, you bet i am. I have been here for years, made many trips to wdw-7 in the last 7 years, and i get flamed for an injury and asking questions. I get told my kids are lying to me-none of you even know my kids and then get told im only looking for a free trip. I was looking for help for my daughter and where to go from here. Disney does offer compensation for stuff and it was not fair to her that she got hurt. I guess its wrong to hope that they do right by her, however big or small it may be.

I only hope that none of you or your children become seriously injured while away from home in another state, whether it be wdw or someplace else and not know where to turn. Believe me, its not fun, and to have people dog you who dont even know you or your kids.

I appreciate all the PM's i received as well and will answer any questions anyone may have, whether it be in a forum or PM.

I'm glad that things are finally working out for you. I read the first couple pages of the original post and was surprised at the number of people that were suggesting that the kids were lying and the number of suggestions for you to get a lawyer.

I think it was terrible that Disney would not even help you get some type of transportation for your daughter, so that you could get to the parks and finish enjoying your trip.

Sorry that this had to happen. Hope she is on the mend. pixiedust: Here's some pixie dust that she is feeling better soon.

hope your DSD is feeling better soon. I also readthe first 2 pages of posts and was shocked that some people are so unsympathetic. If it were my child I wouldn't know what to do either. IMO Disney could have went out of their way for your family much more than they did. I'm shocked that they were not more accomdating. At least they are covering your medical bills now but it would have been nice if they showed some concern for DSD and covered and eletric scooter for her if she felt good enough to even go to the parks. Hope it all works out. :goodvibes

Disneyfun1 - I'm glad things are starting to progress for you. Disney is just like any large company, it takes awhile to get the wheels in motion, but it seems like they have started for you. I think when your daughters accident happened, you were very upset ( as any other parent would be) and many people who posted weren't taking this into account when they read about it and things got carried away all by itself through no fault of yours. Anyway, I hope your daughters foot is better soon . :sunny:

I just wanted to let some of you know that an expression of sympathy from Disney might be construed as an admission of guilt. I work with the public, and if someone is injured we are not allowed even to say "I'm sorry". There are actually tons of rules that we must follow as to what we can say or do. It sucks, you feel awful when someone is injured, but in a sue happy society this is what happens. It is times like this when Disney has to shed its facade as a happy, part of your family park and show itself for what it is. A business which exists only to make money.

:grouphug:

I hope your step-daughter isn't soured on WDW because of this and that she heals completely and quickly. Crutches are not fun. :grouphug:

And I hope you are not completely soured on the DIS because of people's uninformed assumptions and accusations.

I've had several broken toes in my lifetime, just a wee bit clumsy I am. This last time I had 2 broken toes, had to keep them taped and wear my tennis shoes / sneakers the whole time. :sad2:

I got lazy about wearing my shoes, keeping them wrapped tight ... the one healed crooked. So, if her toe or toes are broken, I'm sure you would anyhow but please make sure she wears a good shoe and keeps them taped at all times for the entire time the doctor says.

I wish I hadn't been so lazy but aside from walking into the wall, like I did last time, and re-breaking them there's nothing that can be done.

Funny how you can live in the same house for years and wham! Run into a wall that's always been there.

Good for you, for letting some of those Dis'ers "have it". I have been on here for 5 years and I have said in a couple posts, I don't know whats wrong with some of the people on here lately.

It just seems some have become so nasty and "all-knowing". Please keep us updated on your step-daughter. :)

Disneyfun1, Wow, I'm very sorry that you had to go through all this. Both the incident itself and the comments on the board. I haven't read all the threads on it and I'm sure that others have pointed this out, but do not settle anything until you know the full extent of what you are dealing with. You sound like a reasonable person who is not trying to take Disney to the cleaners. I appreciate that (and I wouldn't be, either). However, do not be quick to settle. There is nothing to be gained settling before she's had a chance to recover and that way you can make sure that there isn't anything more serious going on.

I missed your DD's age--how old is she? How is she doing emotionally? :grouphug: to you all! You will all get through this even though right now it must not seem like it.

I broke my toe last year while at Disney. We were at TL and I slammed my foot into one of the legs of the lounge chairs. Those chairs are so close together and the legs are buried in the sand. I really did a number on it. I just got back into the wave pool (for hours.. :teeth: ) and when I came our the whole toe was huge and black and finally started hurting. We took the bus back to the WL where I asked guest services for some first aid tape to tape them together (since there is really nothing else to do with them) only to be told they didn't have anything for me and that I would need to go to one of the first aid stations at one of the main parks. We were heading to the MK anyway so once we got there the first aid station was our first stop. They taped the toes, gave me extra bandaids and even some Mickey stickers, which DD made sure I wore! :rotfl2: I was broke pretty bad and now has a large, permanent knot at the first knuckle. I probably should have let someone look at it at TL, but I was having to much fun! I took some Motrin for the next couple of days and never slowed down (well, maybe that first night I did  ). I really just wanted to let everyone know that the hotels (at least WL) apparently have a very limited supply of any first aid items! :confused3 I'll be watching out for those TL chairs this August!
