I'm happy that the OP of the original injury thread is getting monetary compensations for medical costs. The demand for an ECV was off, since the child was not legally old enough to use a rented one. I find expecting immediate gratification for the situation unreasonable, as other posters pointed out that WDW and other companies must legally cover their behinds at all times to prevent fraud. The OP also mentioned monetary compensation for the trip, and being in their room instead of enjoying the parks as they wanted to. It came across on the internet as sulking to me - I apologize for not understanding the OP's idea of sulking was not the same as mine.
Why are some so judgmental? If you saved for a long time to enjoy your trip that was potentially ruined or damaged by a faulty ride, would you not expect them to at least assist you to enjoy the rest of your trip? I realize there is a lot of investigating that needs to be done, but the child was left handicapped (at least temporarily) and it really would not have cost WDW much to ensure a customer was at least made comfortable while the investigation was on-going (and that customer continued to spend $$$ at your establishment).

I was thinking the same thing :sad2:

Thank you for the update Disneyfun1. I am glad to hear that your daughter is doing better.

I read your other posts in the original thread and I could not imagine what you were going through. As parents we never want our child to hurt and when they do get hurt it can put us in a tail spin. I imagine that was what you were going through while you were at Disney. It would have been nice to get what you were looking for ..... help and communication. Someome to sit you down and say this is what the process is/this is what is going to happen from here. I may be wrong, but I don't think by someone meeting with you and explaining the process and answering your questions would be admitting any kind of guilt.

As for those that are harping on your request for an ECV, I bet that when you initially requested one that you didn't know that she had to be 18 to get one.....I know I didn't and wouldn't have know had it not have been for the DIS and your OP.

I am glad to see that Disney is finally communicating with your family. I hope that these communications continue and remain as positive as they can be. :grouphug:

I believe on the OP's original thread, he stated that they were offered a standard wheelchair and they refused it.

Schm*ck, substituting a u for the e in my screen name, is a derogatory word in Yiddish.

From googling the word and yiddish, I don't see where it is a racial slur? Derogatory maybe but not a racial slur as you first mentioned. Being someone who is not familiar with Yiddish as I would bet scoolover is as well, the only way I have ever heard that used is in the first definition found on this page (which also has info on the Yiddish meaning). I don't think that was meant to be any sort of a cultural attack of any sort.

No one will ever know what truly happened. Everyone can speculate till the cows come home, but it will not change a thing.

I hope the Sep daughter heals well and that negotiations with Disney procede to the satisfactory resolution for all parties involved. There is no need for name calling on anyones part. Can everyone remain civil and just drop this subject.

ITA! ::yes::

To the OP of the original thread(the SF of the girl injured)....I am going to speak my peace before this thread gets closed as well.

I read the other thread(s) and also thought posters were being extremely judgmental...as it happens WAAAYYYY too often around here. Someone posts, hoping for a little support and they get nothing but bashing. Its ridiculous. I have a 12yo and 16yo DD's and they always wear flip flops in the parks. I also KNOW they would never stand up on any rides. If you know that and you say she didn't stand up then I believe you. Most of the ones who judged you are the ones who would be first to complain if the same thing happened to them. I know i would be livid if this happened and Disney acted as though it were nothing. These are our KIDS for goodness sake. I suppose I'm still a little lost on the comment about her mother pushing the wheelchair, when that could have easily been done by you or your sons :confused3 . Maybe I missed something somewhere as I haven't read every page of the former thread.

Anyway, I'm glad to see you're finally getting things taken care of with Disney.

As for the name calling in this thread...yep...sounds alot like my DD's. It shouldn't have been said in the first place...but...who the heck knows of any Yiddish slurs??? One of you should have been the better one and let it go if not for anything but to show who the better person is :rolleyes2 :sad2:

Disneyfun1, if your dsd does have broken toes, please don't let her wear sneakers!!! Her toes will be much better off it they remain taped, and in a shoe with a non-flexible sole. My Merrills were perfect for my two broken toes....that I broke about 2 months before my WDW trip several years ago.
Hopefully she is on the mend.
As for the rest of the bickering here, come on now. Like my old granny used to say, 'if you can't say something nice, say nothing at all'...seems old-fashioned, I know. But, I think it fits here lately.

I appreciate your support. I hope this thread doesnt get closed. It was only meant for support on what to do originally and to let people know what can happen if someone gets hurt. I was hoping that maybe someone that had gone throught it before could have helped us on what to do. if disney did sit us down and tell us that this is how it works, that would have been a lot better. Instead, we were told-we cant help you.....period.

I also wanted people to be aware of the opening in the SM ride. i had no idea there was a slot in it, as did either of you. Everyone seemed quick to judge it wasnt there, then after others went there, they indeed have reported there is a small opening there where you could get stuck if conditions were right. apparently they were that night. maybe they will look into fixing it, maybe not.

As far as the wheelchair goes, we did push her. She is about 5'10", 240 lbs, a big girl. my sons are 15 and 13 and maybe weigh 100 lbs. My wife has a bad back due to being in a car wreck some 10 years ago before i met her and she was in a coma for 3 weeks and discs removed from her back. I helped as i could as well. her other daughter is only 10 and could no way push it. Hope that helps with that. We all did what we had to do to try and have fun. Some days she simply had to go back to the room due to pain in her foot, which still hurts today.

thanks again to everyone and hope this remains civil.

On a semi- related note..

I rode Splash yesterday (had not read the original thread before I left on my trip)- got the front of the log.. Well, we get ready to head down the last drop and I scooted my feet forward to brace myself and got my foot temporarily caught the same place the OP DSD must have. Managed to yank it free before the ride stopped, but it did do a little damage to the front of my tennis shoe. I stopped to look at the shoe on the way out and a CM was nearby- I jokingly told him that my shoe got caught and I almost had to take up permanent residence on the ride and he informed me that someone'd gotten "stuck like that the other day".. Now I know what he must have been talking about.

I was wearing women's size 7 tennies and I don't have tiny skinny feet, either. The size of that gap must just be different on some logs. It didn't really worry me at the time, but I can see how you could get hurt.

And for general info- I certainly didn't stand up before the drop, so that doesn't have to be a factor either.

I'd wonder how many people have gotten there feet momentarily stuck in there? I mean, it didn't hurt me at all, so I didn't really think about it... Maybe the log the OP's DSD was in had a lower bar than most?

I apologize to anyone (except for Shrek or whatever it is) who was offended by anything I might have said here today. I am sure that there is some way to check someone's posts and if you check mine, you will see that I am a supportive contributor to the board. I just hope that I have made someone laugh (or at least chuckle) today.

I just did not like someone accused of being a money hound or a bad father when that did not seem to me to be the case.

OK Shrek, you can report this too!

Take care
Scott

I did the same search- looked at about 10 different websites and couldn't find it as a racial slur- even searched the word with the term "racial slur" and came up with nothing.
Yes, it was an insult and those aren't allowed in the first place- but I guess you can color me ignorant with the rest of America because I can't find the racial slur in it
It's an obscenity (in Yiddish) - at least I think it's not permitted on the DIS, because I've only seen the word partially 'starred'-out here. Anyway, I'll be happy to provide any moderator with a link to prove this - please PM me.

From reading all these posts - I hope everyone is still is good spirits after getting hurt at WDW.

Insurance - medical - should cover hospital. doctors, ambulance.
We carry our insurance cards with us when we go to WDW (or anywhere)

Lawyers - my DH is an attorney. He is not the first person who would sue. He looks at all the angles and trys to negotiate with the company/person. The courts have more important matters to deal with (not that yours may not be importanant to you). But there is always a way to talk things out without having to go to court.

Our kids have gotten their bumps and bruises while at WDW. Hey we are all living in the same resort room for 7 to 10 days. One of them will fall into the counter, bed post, furniture while goofing around. I bring bandaids, neosporin, and do not hestiate to take a taxi to a mdical Facility such as...
Lake Buena Vista I Centra Care, At the Shoppes at Buena Vista- next to Eckerd Drugs, 407-238-7777

There is also ...To have medications delivered to your hotel - for a $5.00 fee - you can use Turner Drugs, 12500 Apopka Vineland Road, Lake Buena Vista, 407-828-8125.
above info from: http://www.magictrips.com/plan/medical.shtml

There is always http://caremedicalequipment.com/ to rent wheelchairs are such - medical insurance accepted

I do not mean to offend anyone. Just our opinion. You can always find a dirtbag attorney who will sue anyone for anything and charge you $$$$$ for it.

And I never could understand why your daughter wasn't able to push herself some of the time.

ohhh....I understand now....and I'm thinking her height AND weight could have contributed to her foot getting stuck as bad as it did? I'm not trying to be disrespectful, only pointing out that it seems she had more of a chance of this happening than someone who weighed 90 lbs dripping wet and was 4'8".

I do hope the rest of your trip wasn't too bad, and I hope she gets to experience WDW soon enough under better circumstances.

Shame to the posters who assumed other circumstances that seem to be explained away by the facts that Disneyfun1 has posted. .....we all know what assuming does... :rolleyes2

And I also hope this thread doesn't get closed....it does seem as though the maturity level on this thread is far superior to the other threads :teeth:

We are walking a fine line on this thread. One of the main reasons is I don't see this as a Theme Parks Attractions & Stategies Board Topic.Plus it seems to be getting personal and more of a debate. So can we be polite to each other and stay on subject. We want all who visit the Dis to feel welcome and able to express opinions that I or others may not agree with.Bottom line I don't want seem heavy handed and close this thread at this time.We can have different opnions and still be nice to each other. Thank You Danny
