Hurricanes...

Thank you all :). That website you all refer to. Unless I'm not rearing it right or looking in the wrong place, it's not long range?? I only see a day or two out from date of travel??

There's really no such thing as "long range" in weather. Anything beyond the next few days is really just guesstimates. When you get to weeks away its just quoting historical averages.

We flew into MCO about 5 hrs before Hurricane Charlie did! I believe the airport closed about 2 hrs later...possibly sooner. But, that was a case of the hurricane heading right for Orlando...that doesn't happen very often!
That was in late August. I'm heading down on Aug 30....not concerned about weather at all. Now, I do try to fly into MCO before 1pm in the warm months...after that, it's a crap shoot as to thunderstorms.

Flight delays more likely to be caused by a thunderstorm. The Miami Herald recently reported it has been over nine years since the last hurricane directly hit Florida.

Fun fact: It's been over 3200 days since Florida was hit by a hurricane.

We may not have been directly hit by a hurricane in that long, but we do get weather from them that could impact flights if they are off the coast and moving north. So just because it doesn't have a direct hit, doesn't mean it can't impact weather. Just sayin' ;)

But, obviously, there's no way to tell now if a hurricane will hit at the end of the month. It could be sitting right off the coast and you might still not know because it's stalled or slow moving blah blah blah.

It's always doom and gloom on the news/weather here until the last minute, when it usually just passes us by.

Yeah, Wilma was the last storm to hit Florida. That was 2005, and that was also the year there were so many named storms they had to start using the Greek alphabet.

Wilma! Thanks to her we have a new roof on our house. Tore off a lot of our old one, damaged the floor too.

Yep, thanks to her we have an entire new house. Ripped holes in our roof and destroyed the floors. Nothing was salvageable. Thankfully, everything in the house save for our kitchen table and the couch was fine.

Hurricanes. They suck. lol

I'm from Little Ferry and Hurricane Sandy did our town in pretty good so I feel the pain of those affected by hurricanes :(. Safe travels all whenever wherever you fly or drive!!

Ugh, Wilma! We were on DCL during that mess. I believe it was in late October. I have no idea what it did in the parks, but our itinerary had to be adjusted to get away from the storm. We still made it to CC, but the nets on the family beach were damaged so everyone had to cram onto the adults only beach. Kind of crowded, but still a lot of fun!
