Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

For some reason I found this funny. Ya know. There's a hurricane a commin' but thanks for stopping bye

My last hot meal for a day or two. I have left over French toast from breakfast. Gonna save this wrapper if we have power in the morning I can wrap the toast in this and use the iron to warm it up

Yeah, but I also saw one of the hurricane experts on TWC say that as long as the barometric pressure doesn't start falling even lower, this storm is not likely to increase strength. Through the day today the pressure has been pretty steady, where last night it had been continuing to fall.

Right now the size of the wind field is going to be the biggest problem. For the past few hours the storm has been in an eye wall replacement cycle. The last time it went through this it expanded the wind field quite a bit, without really strengthening. If this happens again, it would mean the wind speeds/strength would stay where they are, but they will extend much farther out, which would spread the damage farther away from the eye.

In the end, though, there are far too many variables to say anything with 100% certainty, beyond, "take this storm seriously." No one ever got hurt erring on the side of caution.

Be safe everyone!

We are a few hours out of Orlando headed to Nashville and I can confirm I-75 hotels are booked up. We can't do this trip in one day and have rerouted through Alabama.

I'm not sure what part of Alabama you are routing through, but Montgomery should have plenty of hotels and be on the interstate.

For anyone at the parks, how're the lines for bus/monorail transport back to the resorts?

I expect that to be an issue come park closure.

Just want to send my well-wishes to everyone in the Orlando area. You guys are in my thoughts and I hope the storm tracks east and misses you. Please stay safe!

And I'm sorry for those who are losing or postponing their vacations. Yes, you are safe, but I truly feel for you. I'm going in November and I know I'd be heartbroken if this happened during my scheduled vacation.

If the Board Walk villas are open and ready to receive us, we'll check in on 10/12. As of now it appears the the eye will be about 50 miles from WDW which is on the 'safer' side of rotation. At any rate we'll have a good idea of the possibilities Sun at the latest (I'm guessing), 2 - 3 days before our scheduled arrival.

My daughter is also heading to BWV, but on 10/11 out of PHL. So far, Southwest is not rescheduling flights to MCO beyond 10/8. She's keeping an eye on the conditions in Orlando but I think we all just have to wait and see what happens. Meanwhile, saying prayers for everyone in the path of this monster storm.

People are being a bit too blasé about this whole thing. By no means am I the voice on authority on such things nor am I saying you would take what I say as gospel, but I feel like if you plan on arriving on Saturday with expectations for a perfect trip, I'd probably reschedule.

Heck, if I had a trip planned and I was still able to cancel accommodations I'd probably give this at least two weeks, if not more, to blow over.
To take this thought further - my family has a vacation planned for Thanksgiving week. A cruise hitting many of the islands just impacted by this storm. We have decided to cancel that cruise because those islands will not be ready for us by then. Sure, they will want our $$$, as will the cruise line, but we will wait until everything has had time to be safely repaired.

Ok, i read the closure thread and didn't see it mentioned, other than a couple stores. What is the status for Disney Springs today, Thursday and tomorrow, Friday? Trying to decide what we plan for
I don't usually jump in to threads with no info but just wanted to say I have been looking for posts from you today hoping you had a safe arrival. Take care!

We are at the yacht club. The stores on site are open until 11:30pm. They said tomorrow they will have food options and the restaurants will be open. We probably won't be able to cross over to the beach club but they said we would be all set. Just as an update.
We are at Epcot now. They are gathering trash cans together, photo pass photographers are packing up, but there are still people. Not many people, but they're there. There are plenty of supplies at the marketplace and it is not chaos here.

Houston's Space City Weather blog is a very useful hurricane resource in Houston. The author is no hype, very clear.

He is recommending to follow this guy:

So @cbs_spacenews will ride out Matthew in Brevard County. Probably the space community's best source of KSC updates. Be sure to follow.

He is also cautioning that the first day of a storm is filled with inaccurate reports by news outlets. Be wary of that.

Good luck, everyone.

So since everything is closed and the parks are not opening on Friday will Disney automatically refund the MNSSHP tickets? I don't want to call and take up a cast members time when they need to be helping with guests on property. I am sure even getting through will be a nightmare. Since we live here in Florida we were driving over tomorrow. We cancelled our hotel and now just need to cancel the party...

I had tickets for tonight. Last night I received instructions about what to do via email. Options were another mnsshp day, - mvmcp ticket, a one day hopper the expires in two years, or refund.

We were supposed to check in today. I cancelled this morning and rebooked for thanksgiving.

Haha, I think I could relate to how you must have felt. It's like, I've got stuff to do. How DARE the weather interrupt me! :rotfl:
Truly. I mean it was sunshine and blue skies. No outer squalls yet even. All my neighbors came pouring out of their houses and we all had a pow-wow about our bad luck in the street. Lesson learned. Next hurricane, heaven forbid, I'm getting every stitch washed well in advance.

We are at SSR. We have been told nothing. We asked 4 CMs if they had any info, and no one did. We had to wait at Reception to find anything out, and the room is so crowded. I don't know why they can't put a sign up. Not much left in the resort shop. One CM did say they believed Artist Palette would stay open tomorrow but we had to go there at our own risk. I have to say I am a bit disappointed at the total lack of any info from the hotel.

Just left AK. Bus lines were medium-long, but seemed like a lot of busses were coming in. We only waited a few min for a shared POR/FQ bus. It's full, but we got the whole line in.

For a moment I thought you were about to say you were going to save your wrapper to lick in the morning if things got bad! Whew.

I love this saying!!

I have been following this thread for the news updates since I have family about an hour northeast of Disney off I-4, including my 90 year old grandmother. Yesterday she was planning to ride the storm out in her house, but today she decided to leave to another family member's house- or possibly a shelter, they haven't decided. She is very worried for her house (afraid the roof will blow off as it looks like she'll get a direct hit). This thread has actually been pretty comforting to read.
