Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

Some of you have mentioned hurricanes spawn tornados. How long after initial hurricane conditions does this last? Just while hurricane conditions are continuing or up to hours/days after? I'm sure situations differ but just want to make sure I'm not in danger of driving into a tornado late Sunday (I live in Indiana. I can handle tornados when I have shelter...not when driving)

Tornados are usually just before during and just after the hurricane. So by Sunday you should be okay as long as you aren't following the east coast down to Orlando.

I wonder if people can park in the parking garage to wait the storm out?

Do you mean leave their cars there and then take a bus to their Disney resort? Probably could. However one will not be able to wait out the storm in their car if that is what you mean.

The ones at Disney Springs?

All those animals at DAK :(. I'm sure most are being rounded up and put somewhere safe. What a task that would be.
I would assume their night quarters are built to hurricane standards. But yes, what a task to round up all the animals on the safari. Isn't there something in the ride about them having a certain sound or call they know to respond to?

There was actually an episode where they had a person that works at AK (Holly) talk about this. The buildings for the animals can withstand the hurricanes without a problem. As she put it, "if it can withstand a white rhino, it can take a hurricane."

They are probably just following the normal procedures for taking them back to their cages. Just like a zoo Disney has enough space to bring all animals into. I imagine the safari will be bare soon (if it is currently operating at all).

Yeah, they do say that!

I don't know where you are from but you are misinformed. First of all, That area is suppose to be getting 80+ mph sustained with higher gusts. However, a slight deviation west by the eye and you could be looking at 100+ sustained. Also, hurricanes spawn tornadoes and usually lots of them. Your rental company may be downplaying this storm, but please be prepared. As someone who works in law enforcement in a hurricane area, I can see you are not taking this threat serious enough. It is not internet hype, but instead could be life or death for some.
Walt Disney world is only 68 mi from Port Canaveral and that's going to get hit hard so Your going to get a lot of wind and hurricane gust at times... I live up I 4 less then a hour from Disney and we are being told the eye is going over Orlando and up towards us!

Saturday, Sunday and Monday should be fine- think of what a draining pool looks like? It spirals like that. All the weather should clear by Friday night and go away from where you'd drive from.

Just got OFFICIAL confirmation, parks will close today at 5 pm and will be closed on Friday. If any CM's on here, call the hotline # for additional info concerning shift reporting times for today as this is a change from the 7 pm closing time we had been given.
And a Disney Fairytale Wedding and another event for tonight are not being canceled. All the CMs involved have no choice but to show up.

That is awful. I hope those CMs end up being considered ride out crews. Like how the heck are you suppose to have a Wedding during a hurricane. SMH.
