Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

I would love if people are down there currently and will be there during the storm give updates throughout the next couple of days on weather currently so us trying to get down there can kind of get an idea....thanks and everyone be safe

In preparation for Thursday-Friday potential park closings, we brought a 6-pack of water, snacks (nuts, fruit, PB), 2 bottles of wine, and a few games (cards, dominos, trivial pursuit, dominos). What are your suggestions for additional items we may need if we're staying onsite? We're driving down from Atlanta and will be in Valdosta in an hour And can stop to get extra supplies.

I wouldn't count on any extra supply pick ups or gas. If you need it, bring it. I don't know how many people you have, but 1 gal per day is the suggestion, so 6 bottles of water is too low if you expect a 2 day issue (and normally they tell you to plan for 3 days min). Restaurants may also be closed, so you would want 2-3 days of all food with no power/refrigeration needed. Not sure how many people you have, but I think I'd bring more and I'd think breakfast/lunch/dinner and not just snacks. Flashlights, batteries, trashbags, paper products and plastic utensils (including paper towels and toilet paper, b/c you may not get room service for days), a first aid kit, an extra gas can for the car filled with gas, a no-power radio or a solar charger for your Iphone (in case power becomes an issue)...I would over pack (which is never like me), not under pack...

Janice Dean on Fox just said Matthew may " loop around" and stay in the area until Tuesday or Wednesday!! She said this would have a major, devastating effect on the area!

this is the first time im hearing this everyone else says its going up the coast just slowly

There has been one model forecasting this all week, but it was considered an aberration, but the speed of the storm (ie - its lack of it) is making it more possible, just like the Sept storm went all the way around the state...

I talked to our son last night. He said that if WDW opts to close the parks, he might have the option of volunteering to join the "ride out team" for AK. that would stay there for the duration of any closure. We agreed that it would be a good idea if offered since "What are the chances you'll get that opportunity again!" He also added "I picked a bad week to run out of bread" as his work schedule doesn't mesh well with nearby grocery store hours.

And meeting up with a low pressure area I think?? I'm no meteorologist, I was actually just watching the opinions on the VP debate and caught her weather " alert". We are scheduled to arrive next Thursday, so keeping an eye on it.

We are supposed to fly out a week from tomorrow Oct 13, will this be something that will close the parks and resorts down long term??

I don't know where they get this stuff. NOAA hasn't suggested anything about Matthew "looping around" and sticking around over Orlando for a week. There are a lot of projections out there. I usually ignore all of them except NOAA.

Walt Disney World's parks have never been closed for a single hurricane longer than two days. Resorts do not close. In the case of a direct hit, guests have been asked to shelter in place in the resorts. They will evacuate Fort Wilderness, but not the other resorts. If they become damaged, that might be different.

I don't think it would close it long term. From what I hear, Disney is always the first one up since they have their own power grid. I'm hearing alot of hurricane plans include Disney. From what I'm seeing, I think tomorrow should be fine but Thursday night and Friday is iffy.

I'm still comfortable in our decision to head down tomorrow. Well, I wish it could have been tonight, to really get in before this comes around but I still feel good about early in the morning, based on the reports today. Maybe it will slow down a tiny bit more

Heavens knows Fox struggles to get real, concrete news right, no way would I rely on them to get the weather right.

for those questioning MNSSHP- they should refund you, as long as you ask (unless they cancel it outright in which case they would have to refund). i was there in Sept when TS Julia formed nearby and we got dumped on with rain and winds and thunder and lightening- first they offered tickets to another party (for when we weren't going to be there) then they offered 1 day PH non expiring-which then became either 1 yr or non expiring but they couldn't confirm- so i just waited it out in line and got a refund, then turned around and bought tickets for two days later and we had a great time. Tickets say non-refundable, but i think in this case they are going to be more than understanding. i have family that just left last night to head to WDW...so hoping this storm doesn't do much damage- stay safe for all of you down there

Our local news is also showing the loop back, which would impact my area the most. We are firmly inside the cone of shame. :( They haven't really said much about it, but it's there as a possibility. I'd rather know that it's a possibility than be completely surprised.

We are scheduled to fly out tonight from Philadelphia. From what I can see everything looks good heading into Thursday afternoon. After that... who know what to expect. I just pray this thing misses Orlando all together. I've come to the realization that it probably won't.

I just heard from WFTV that there is a stronger possibility of a direct hit in Central Florida and the models have been shifting it further west than they thought and to prepare for it.

Right now, a miss is likely not going to happen. There's going to be some sort of effect on the Orlando area. Nobody yet knows what its exact impact will be or how many days (since there is an outside chance of it performing that "loop" that at least one forecaster is mentioning)

Really? A loop cant I catch a break.......whats the likely hood of that

While not an indication of a full "loop", what Fox may have been referring to is the most recent NOAA projection that shows a change in the last day that the storm is now predicted to hook eastward instead of moving up the Atlantic coast. Whether it then will head east to Bermuda or continue to bend back around isn't clear.

I would delay til Saturday afternoon. As a flyer, you have very little ability to bring supplies to get you through a possible direct hit. You wouldn't want to spend 36-48 hours hungry, thirsty, and bored...

I think people are overestimating how safe and comfy Disney can keep you and underestimating how big the storm's effects may be...you don't want to relive the Superdome scenario. I'm not saying it would ever be that bad, but if you show up in Disney and have no transport, no food, no water, and no ability to communicate without power, and a huge storm is hitting, that's not good for you, that's not good for Disney or Florida (you will just be a drain on their limited resources)...

Im no weather person but it seems to me if it can slow down a little more maybe it will get pushed of shore a little more....that just from the latest projections....im probably just hoping allot right now
