Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

Urgh, got a call from the agent doing my change. His computer froze during the last step of the process and he lost one of our flights on Wednesday night. So we are now on Thursday morning. The earlier flight tomorrow was simply impossible. In the long run, provided the storm doesn't get there Thursday morning, it's a better change for us. I wish it didn't feel like such a gamble.
Thursday morning should be good. Here in South Florida we are not expecting any TS/H winds until Thursday afternoon.

Talked to Disney and the CM I got said there is nothing available on property on the night of the 6th, not for full price or with the passholder rates. I grabbed a room at Swan. Shocked it was still available and at a good rate too.
So we'll be hoping from Swan to BWI to Dolphin (originally just BWI to Dolphin)

Has anyone consider moving / postponing their trip? Seems like so much could happen with park closing and things like that
No, I know how fast these things come and go. We'll be fine for the rest of the trip. Our hotel was prepaid (Dolphin) so couldn't cancel. But mostly, I know after Friday it is not going to be so bad.

Thanks. I so hope it stays this way.

I saw that earlier today. Looks almost like she is pushing Matthew towards the coast, but it may just be coincidence.
No, that is exactly what's happening, according to WFTV's meteorologists. The low pressure center which today became Nicole generated a ridge of high pressure to it's west. That ridge is forcing Matthew to the west.

When rooms become unavailable from disney, I find that discount sites sometimes still has some you can get that way for anyone trying to find something to come down early..

It's is expected to be much closer the coast with the latest update, which means not only a bigger impact for Orlando and the theme parks. Stay safe folks!

If parks close will resort restaurants stay open for the guests staying therr?

I'm so torn. We're supposed to drive tomorrow (Wednesday) and get there in the middle of the afternoon. Latest predictions have a ton of rain for Wednesday through Friday morning. We're there only through Columbus Day. Feeling like maybe we should shorten the trip from 5 nights to 3 nights? Just seems like a tough drive with rain for only 3 nights, but poor value to arrive only to sit at the resort.

Meanwhile, in some strange irony, weather at home (Atlanta) has been for the past 7 days, and will continue to be gorgeous: sunny, 55 - 85 degrees for the next 10 days.

Nope, no go. Checked there first. Well, first MDE, second resellers and third, called Disney.

I'm no weather person but it sure did seem like that was what happened. Now we can all hate on Matthew and Nicole

Highly unlikely the parks will close. It'll just be some rainy days at Disney. However if they do close the parks though then yes the resorts take care of their guests with food

Disney has this covered.. i've heard and read lots of stories of how disney was the place still opened, they even had the park opened for free for the few hours it could and everyone got back to their rooms with information and flashlights just in case...

Now, if may not be safe to get to the food so if disney is starting to say be prepared for the storm, it's time to make sure your room has some food in it because you may not be able to get to it until after.

Disney has almost never closed for weather, so unless this thing turns and decides to sit on top of disney, it'll be ok and just some extra rain..

We are on contemporary tower so everything under one roof!

I would not be surprised if they have started to make sure there is rooms for locals that might be evacuated and to get more castmembers on property to keep it opened as much as possible if it does go really bad...

I just wanted to say I'm a little jealous of everyone that's coming down right now.. My best trips has been in combination with hurricanes.. I'll be jumping into the parks as much as I can with work and home during this.. :)

5PM NOAA update:

Probability of Tropical Storm force winds in Orlando has increased to 70%. Window of highest probability is 4PM Thursday to 4PM Friday. Hurricane force probability still at 11%.

The track has it just north of Daytona @ 2PM Friday.

I had that thought. It seems pretty much impossible that every single room on property is gone, at full rate. Not when the day before I had no problems finding a room. Now, there weren't many at the AP discount but if I clicked on regular rates pretty much every property had something open. Now, nada. I suspected they may have blocked new bookings, which is why I called to see if I could add on to my existing reservation first. Then had her check anything. It is ok for me, Swan ends up being a lot cheaper than the Disney Epcot resorts. And we've got the interior doors DH asked for

Can I just give you a big old raspberry!
I know, don't shoot the messenger but :P to the latest updates

I still think it will be fine come Saturday so we'll still get in the most of our trip. Friday may not be loads of fun.

The severity of impact will heavily depend on where the eye comes ashore. If it comes hits in SE Florida and stays over land it will weaken considerably by the time it hits Orlando. If it comes on shore more toward central Florida it will be a different story. That is IF it hits Florida.
