Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

We are at SSR right now. Does anyone know if Disney will bring supplies to the separate buildings? If we cannot leave for 24 hours or so, what do we do to eat? There are no instructions so far, and I am a bit concerned about eating. We usually stay in a single building hotel, and I can see how that would be ok, but somewhere like this where the restaurant and CS is more than a 5 minute walk from our room is concerning me.

They do not bring food and water to the outer building while the storm is active. It would be best if you go get something tomorrow morning for your room.

We just left fort wilderness today. I don't know if it's different because we would have to be relocated either way but we were originally told we would be credited the unused nights at the resort and unused ticket days. When we checked out we were not credited and was told because we were under a package we would have to call the Disney travel company to get reimbursed. I think this may be one of those issues Kevin talks about that the different parts of Disney do not communicate. The ones we need to talk to had a message that they closed at 5 so we will be calling first thing in the morning. I will not be happy if I am not reimbursed as I was originally told.

I called to cancel my room for Friday night.....they said that refunds have to go through the crediting department and they're slammed right now. The wonderfully patient CM told me that it could be a week before I saw the refund posted. Luckily she took the time to submit the refund form for me while I was on the phone with her, but some might be trying to help as many people as they can and are just telling people to call the Disney travel company themselves.

We were at Disney during Frances in 2004 it was rainy and very windy, but we never lost power and we watched the coverage on the Weather Channel. The next day Disney was wide open, yet still boarded up, but we were able to ride the E ticket rides 3x and got the best restaurant reservations. It was 18 hours of riding out the storm, but we were safe and together. Wherever you are, please listen to the officials and be safe. Disney will open ASAP and vacations will resume. I am now the owner of a vacation rental home and I have guests in place. My management company has checked in on my renters and given them instructions on what to do. MY #1 priority is their safety, but we are doing everything we can to also help them salvage their important Disney vacation. Good luck to you all and please be safe!

I would get out first thing in the morning and bring in food. Luckily with DVC you have a kitchen/kitchenette.

I thought the same thing. Some people are insistent on getting there (not just here, on fb too) and I have to say I am a little surprised. It's different if the storm is hitting in the middle of your trip and you are already there. In that case, I would probably stick it out. If I was currently at Disney and scheduled to leave for home on Fri or Sat, I would try to get out before. I can't understand staying in the path of a hurricane to sit in your hotel room and wait to go home.

I think some people think it will just be a day of rain and wind and then all will be fine the next day. I don't think people realize the impact this could have and how the area could be devastated for days or weeks afterwards. Power could be out, airport shut down, roads impassable etc. I was in FL shortly after Hurricane Andrew hit Miami and I could not believe the devastation. It took months and months to get things back to semi-normal. I believe that was a Cat 5, so it was much worse, but still.

Yet I also understand the flip side. Disney trips are expensive, require tons of planning, many are booked a year in advance, fp and adr's are booked months in advance, time is taken off work etc. It's not easy to just switch to another date. So I get it that people are grasping at straws and trying to convince themselves they can get there safely and it will all be good by Saturday. I hope that is the case and that it has little impact on the area.
I'm here now. My flight home was originally scheduled for Friday. We rescheduled for early tomorrow afternoon in the hopes we can get out in advance of the storm. As of now, that flight has not been canceled but my level of confidence on the flight actually happening is low. Could/should we have left today? Maybe. I can't change what has already happened. We continue to make what we feel are the best choices at the time with the information we have. I was really surprised to read if cancelations of MNSSHP & other activities on the property. No mention of that at the resort (that I saw)

I'm at CBR if I need extra day because of flight cancellation do I call resort of wdw number? Sorry if already been addressed.

One of our family's BFFs moved from Jersey after our neighbor town's berm broke and flooded our town out - and they moved to FL. My heart is hurting for them and everyone in Matthew's path and I'm just praying you all stay safe and damage is minimal at best.

Front desk is your best bet, but there is no guarantee you will be able to stay in your same room, resort, or even on property - it ultimately depends on if there is room.

I would go down ASAP and talk to them. If there is no room, there are some hotels in the area with some availability left.

That's a rather narrow view. Hotel suite and rental car booked via Hotwire non-refundable (who kindly had added an automated "sorry, you're screwed" message to their phone system) and airfare return flight also nonrefundable. For 5 people.

I've no qualms heading down to south GA / west FL until Friday to see how this turns out. If it's a total loss, we can just turn around and go home. Better that than completely writing off what we've spent and having the thing turn out to be not so bad. Yes, it very well may be terrible, and if it is we've no intention of getting in on that.

(Moderator, Sorry for further detracting from the actually useful information on this thread but blanket statements are not ok)
Yes, some rooms booked not directly from Disney are not refundable at this point. And people who bought gift cards with target redcard discount or discounted at Sam's to use to pay for hotel, etc will only get a refund to their gift cards. So just some things to factor in to people's decisions on what is appropriate move for them to make at this point.

Bloody ridiculous to not even cancel Halloween Horror Nights.

Seriously, it's time to just pull the trigger.

I'm here too I got tired of waiting so I went to the custom house and calmly explained that I'm scheduled to leave on Saturday but chances are my airline will cancel/delay my flight. I asked how much it would cost me to do a reservation through Monday if I needed it at the latest. I got a very nice gentleman who called a number and got me Saturday-Monday for $316 with tax in a standard view. I may have to move rooms but I got a ressie

The person before me (situation unknown) I overheard was directed the WDW Travel Company number

So moral of the story. More bees with honey than vinegar:)

I agree. I think it's safe to say that Thursday night and all day Friday into night are likely heavy rain days. As slow as it is even if it goes north and not so inland it's still sending volumes of water. That isn't safe for driving, HHN crowds and more. I was to be in Universal Friday and Saturday. Never so happy I cancelled a trip.

Just heard internal site no longer shows MNSSHP scheduled for Friday. No surprise but of course nothing official.

I sure hope by morning and a path is more clear that Disney/Universal will make some park decisions ... for safety of ALL.
