Hurricane Katrina Update

Hey DIS'ers...
Hurricane Katrina has ran me out of Baton Rouge...and my family and I have evacuated to Northern Mississippi. It looks pretty bad right now...it was upgraded to a Category 4 recently! Has anyone else been affected by this storm?? I hope all goes well....my D"B/F" and I are headed to DisneyWorld in less than a week!!! Post any updates about the storm here for our fellow DIS'ers from LA,MS,and AL. And if you evacuated...where did you go??

I'm so sorry that you are being affected by this hurricane along with Million others. But I just wanted to let you know that we are praying for you, that everything turns out okay for you and your friends and family. We all wish that this would never happen, but hopefully it will be over quickly. Again I'm sorry that you are going through this.

My grandparents are evacuating, the live in Ama, LA, about 20 or so minutes from New Orleans. But they made the best of it, they're going to memphis to gamble. They are outta there in about an hour and a half. To all those in the hurricanes path, I pray that everything goes well and nothing happens to anybody. So Good Luck and God Bless

Hi, Tinkerbell.
We have decided to stay and ride it out at home. We are as prepared as we can be. There are so many factors affecting this storm. Normally if you are on the western side of a hurricane you have minimal effects. Well, because Katrina is so large and so powerful it looks like all of southeast La. will be affected in some way. I kept trying to convince my dh to head to WDW, but he just wouldn't go for it (lol). We also have a home in Mississippi near McComb, we were not able to go and make any preparations there. We will just have to wait until after the storm passes to see how well it fares. I have lived in La. most of my life, but this will be the strongest storm I have ever experienced. The live news conference on TV just said that the storm now has sustained winds at 175 miles per hour!!! Thank you for all your prayers. I will post as I can.

WannaBe please be careful! They just said the winds are 175 mph. I am so worried about you. Please reconsider leaving.We want to see you at WDW next year or whenever your next trip is. If you still decide to stay God keep you safe and secure. We are thinking of you and worrying with you!

Thank You all for you prayers and pixie dust...I send mine out,too! We are from Gonzales....about 45 minutes from New Orleans. Our home is very close to the MS river...so we figured it safe to go ahead and leave. I, too, and surprised that it is now a Category 5....I just pray that this mess gets cleared up soon and that everything is where we left it when we return. I am flying to WDW Thursday....I sure hope we can get out of the airport! If not...we will have to find an airport somewhere else to fly us out. I WILL be in Disney on Thursday...no matter how I have to get there...and even if I can only bring the clothes I have right now with me! We are in Oxford, MS right now..but will be leaving for TX today to get out of the path of the storm...and to be able to get home easier w/ out flooding and such. Again, my prayers are with everyone...and please be safe all of you who have evacuated or who are riding it out! To think...I was concerned with whether this storm would be hitting Disney earlier this week! Have a great day and keep us all posted!
