If anyone wants to come stay with us to get out of the path of the hurricane your more than welcome to come.

I guess I should mention that we live in Canada. :flower: By the time you get here, the hurricane will be done.

But seriously...if you need a place, I know many people would love to help out and open their homes to help others. Just let me know.

Take care and be safe...are prayers are with you
!

A very big thank you to everyone thinking of and praying for us tonight and tomorrow!!!! :grouphug:

We're still in Louisiana. We're north of New Orleans so we don't have to worry about storm surge, just wind and rain. We're in a very sturdy structure but we still appreciate all the good thoughts being sent up for us!!!

Hopefully, we'll all make it through this one. I ask everyone to remember those who couldn't (or wouldn't) leave the most dangerous areas. The next couple of days (weeks, months) will be very hard for all of us...but it helps to know others are thinking of us! :goodvibes

Hi- add us to the list of evacuees. We live on the Ms Gulf Coast and we headed North this morning after picking our jaws up off the floor. It's me, DH, DS7 and DD4. The kids really have no idea what we are about to go through. Oh, to be young and innocent again.... We are staying at my MIL's house in Jackson and praying that God will calm that monster's winds before it comes ashore. We are about 180 miles from the coast so we're hoping it won't be quite so bad by the time it gets here. We are still expecting it to be maybe a Cat 1 up here. But a Cat 1 is much better than a Cat 5 down home. Plus we are thinking it may pass by and we will end up on the western side. Still expecting to lose power and the whole shebang. Really dreading how hot it will be. The heat index has been running 105 lately down here. I've got my Disney water misters ready and waiting :teeth: Knew they'd be a good investment one day.

It's funny you mention snakes because my DH was just saying that we will probably have a ton of snakes around our house when we go back because our property at home is one of the higher areas in our neighborhood and we live about 1 block from the water. :confused3

Good to see some fellow Disers from the Kiln. My MIL has a home there(well, Bay St. Louis on the Jourdan River) They got out and are really pretty worried about the house...

Stay safe everybody and please throw some prayers our way. We really need them. Thanks!!

My prayers are with all of you in Louisiana. I live in North Alabama and we are suppossed to be under a tropical storm warning tomorrow(and we're a good 450 miles away from South Louisiana)!!!! I hope everyone in the path stays safe. Please be careful!!!!!!!

We live in Belle Chasse, which is just outside of New Orleans and we left on Sat. We are currently in Tenn hoping that we still have a house when we come home.

Watching the weather channel as the storm nears. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in that area! :grouphug:

I know!! Me too, I don't even want to see tv anymore.

God bless to all of you and my prayers are with you.

Good Luck and stay safe to all of you in the path.

I am about 1000 feet from the Atlantic Ocean rght now in Ocean City, Maryland. We are very fortunate that our town has not taken a direct hit in over 100 years (quick get me some wood to knock on).

Our little big town here is only a mile wide with the Atlantic on one side and the bay on the other. At the southern tip the Atlantic and bay meet. God help us if we ever get hit!

God Bless You All! Please stay safe and be smart!

I also wanted to give my best wishes to everyone that has had to evacuate and is in the storm's path. Be safe!

Best wishes to everyone who might be affected.
Hurricane path prediction is hardly an exact science. Just looked at the "projected" path this morning (at 5:00 AM) Changed from what I saw at 11:00 last night!! Now moving faster, more to the east.

We're praying for everyone in the path of this storm. I'm especially concerned for the large number of people who live in poverty in the New Orleans area. I hope they had the resources to find safety, whether in the dome or elsewhere.

I'm also an animal lover and I can only imagine how many pets and animals living on the streets are struggling right now.

Hi all,

I'm here in Lafayette, LA and the weather is not so bad. Just a bit of wind and light rain so far this morning.

Actually I'm at work this morning.

If weather gets worse I'll be heading back home.
I'm only 10 minutes from home.

The news is dramatic. The Superdome is leaking, and not just here and there, the entire roof may be compromised - or the channel 7 news is acting very dramatic. No cameras allowed in the dome, thank goodness, to allow privacy to the 10,000 seeking shelter. No a/c, the Guard is there (altho a friend reports most of the Nat'l Guard is in Iraq!)

Next 2 hours critical.

Local news (Lafayette, La.) has a few shots from inside the Dome. 2 large holes, everyone inside has been shifted to the opposite side.

The 256th Guard from New Iberia is in Iraq. The rest of the Guard is available.

I am originally from Houma, all my family is safe.

To the others in the area: Pixxie dust and other stuff!!

That was the worst thought that came to my mind yesterday.. what if that dome.. where people went to be safe.. can't save them? *major prayers* I can hardly concentrate on work I keep visiting cnn

From what I understand, they recently replaced the roof on the superdome. It is a membrane roof and a couple of sections of the membrane has torn off. That would expose the insulation beneath the membrane which would probably blow away. Other than the leaks, they should be okay. What is more of a problem is the lack of bottle oxygen for the people on oxygen who did not bring enough with them. The dome was only supposed to be for special needs sheltering.

With the power off in lots of places in South LA and South MS, lots of people will be without AC. Most places with emergency power, can't put their AC systems on emergency power.

I have heard about people near the Lake who did not evacuate and are now sitting on top of their homes waiting to be rescued.

My friend has probably lost her home to flooding in Ocean Springs, MS. She's in NOLA at work since Saturday.

Hey folks- checking in from Baton Rouge! We made it through the storm! So, I wanted to respond or try to give some "better" information than what the news channels are reporting. First, to lucyanna- I am from Monroe orignally and DH is from Delhi- small world indeed!
OK- Fox News was reporting crazy all day. They had the most ridiculous stories! My Mom was calling me asking about crazy stuff and every time I'd ask her where she'd heard that, it was always from Fox News. I am usually a fan of them, but not this time. The Weather Channel and of course, our local channels, had the best and most accurate information. Superdome does have two holes in the roof as the previous poster said- they just had to move the folks over. But, cameras are allowed in there. One of DHs best friends is in the guard that went from New Iberia and he says all is basically well. Now, New Orleans is terrible- gloom and doom is pretty close.
In Baton Rouge, we are basically ok. Lots of trees down and power is out almost everywhere. We are lucky and on the same grid that a hospital is on, so we have power back on after it being out all day. We have a generator, so we were ok anyway, though. The Entergy company says there are 800,000 customers in Louisiana alone without power. About 90,000 of them are in Baton Rouge. We were lucky and have only a few shingles fly off. There are many homes with trees in them now, though. I need to go feed DS now, but will check in later. Please feel free to ask any questions and I will try my best to answer what I know and what I can see. The New Orleans ABC TV affliate is broadcasting along with our station, so we are getting great information.
