Hurricane Jeanne, is anyone else stressing?

We are supposed to leave on Saturday, and I too, am quite stressed out about this hurricane.

So, someone tell me, if we get there and get checked in, and the weather gets bad .... will be be safe in the AKL ?? I know you can't really predict that.... but what exactly happens when a hurricane comes and one is stranded in a resort ??????

My husband still wants to go in spite of everything... I live in northern Fla... we just got over Ivan... and I know from many hurricane experiences that the weather AFTER a hurricane is USUALLY beautiful.... and he keeps reminding me of that. But what in the world do you do while the thing is happening ??
Are we completely nuts to go down there now ?????

I am stressing out too, I leave sat and will be at AkL hopefully.
I hope it goes out to sea!!

I had a friend ride out Charley at AKL. She said that the CM's were wonderful and that everything went fine there. :)

Actually, I would like to know about planes flying in rain? Will airlines fly into a city with heavy raining going on?

I'm suppose to leave on Monday, but looks like I might be canceled because orlando is calling for jeanne to go through then.

Has anyone ever flown in heavy rains? Is it safe? I've already rescheduled my trip 3 times due to the hurricanes and would really like to get to WDW.

OK, the first leg of our Land/Sea honeymoon package starts on Sunday with 4 days at WDW. Will I make it to WDW?? Our flight leaves MSP at 7am and is scheduled to land at MCO at 11:30. The report said that MCO has no plans of closing *as of yet* but I'm still worried. Should we really try to fly out tomorrow, or hope for the best on Sunday? Any suggestions? I'll admit that I don't know the first thing about hurricane tracking or preparation, all I know is that they are devestating and that FL has already had to deal with too many this year. I hope for all the residents and all the vacationers that Jeanne just goes out to sea!

I also hope Jeanne stays out at sea! I live in Port Saint Lucie and things here are already crazy. Lines for gas are already out of control and the supermarkets are a mob scene.

Government offices and schools are closed today. I am a manager at an outlet mall in Vero Beach and we are closing today at noon and staying closed through Sunday.

Time to put up the hurricane shutters.....again.

My heart and prayers go out to all the florida residents. No matter how small or big you just don't need anything more this season.

We leave Wednesday, looks like as long as the airport is good to go we should be fine. However, if it's not then we'll just push it back a few days or weeks whatever it takes to go safely.

I'll be at AKL with you! I feel perfectly safe being there. I plan to buy some magazines at the airport. I have some books, too. Plus, we have SoapNet and they run the All My Children marathon on Sunday! I guess we'll just hang at the resort. I think we're lucky being at AKL since we are more or less free to move about the entire resort, unlike at the Poly or GF, where you are in a separate building. I have every confidence that we'll be safe there. A tad bored, maybe, but safe. :D

I wonder how much staff they have on during storms. Will the Food Court be open? What about room service? I'm sure they'll find some way to feed us!

Hopefully it will turn away. Alternatively, I hope it weakens before it gets to FL and it's nothing but a heavy rainstorm and doesn't cause too much damage.

In any event, we'll be at AKL, too, as will my best friend and her husband. So, maybe the lounge will be open and we can all sample tasty beverages!;)

We were planning to go grocery shopping when we got in (staying at VWL). Will there be a problem getting stuff (especially bottled water)? Planned to go to the Albertson's where I could fax my list!

if you get in tomorrow GOOD LUCK water bread milk etc.. is already off the shelves in most parts iof my area!!!

I think I am destined to spend my honeymoon in a hurricane... check my signature!

Well who leaves their room on their honeymoon anyway? LOL!

AllyandJack, I stayed at AKL during Frances. The food court was not open. You have to go outside to get to the food court. Once the storm gets going, they lock the outside doors and put sandbags against them. You will not be allowed to leave the resort once the storm gets going. Besides, you cannot be on the roads after a certain point. Based on the past two hurricanes and the time that Jeanne is supposed to hit, it would be my guess that they will say all cars must be off the roads by 12 am Sunday morning. Strong wind gusts occur before the main storm hits.

During Frances, AKL had both Boma and Jinko open during certain hours. They had a reduced menu. For instance, Jinko only offered a buffet instead of its regular menu.

The staff was limited. They told us not to expect maid service during the hurricane. No one came that Sunday that Frances hit to make the beds. They did pass out flyers every so many hours and leave phonemail messages giving updates. They also passed out flashlights and told us to take in the patio furniture from our balcony before the storm started. It made it a bit crowded in the room with the extra furniture.

They did as much as they could to entertain the guests during the hours when the storm wasn't at its peak. During the worst part of the storm, they asked all the guests to stay in their rooms.

We never lost power or cable. We felt very safe at AKL.

Frances was a very slow moving storm. We were basically in lockdown from Saturday evening until Monday morning. Jeanne should move through faster.
