Looking at the web page above, it looks as though Hurricane Ivan may not hit Orlando after all.

I really dont know much about hurricanes, but I was wondering how close does it have to be to close the airport?

We are due to fly into Orlando airport Friday afternoon and I don't know whether the hurricane could still cause our flight to be cancelled.

Anyone know anything?

Thanks

Hi Mandy,

I don't know the answer to your question I'm afraid - though the last I heard the hurricane was going West of the Gulf coast - good news for Orlando.

I just wanted to say - I hope you have a fantastic time at SSR. I would love to hear all about it when you get back :) :) I can't wait for my first trip there in December :)

Cheers

Karen :)

Mandy,

Ivan appears to be heading in a more westerly direction at this moment in time and hopefully will continue to steer clear of central florida, however it does look like the Gulf coast may get some bad flooding from possible 12 foot waves. It would appear that it may make landfall around the New Orleans area.

Lets hope whatever it does everybody comes out of it ok!!

Hi Mandy,

I would be fairly confident at this time that Orlando is going to avoid the effects of Hurricane Ivan.

They certainly wouldn't close the airport or change any flights until they were almost certain that Ivan was going to in very close proximity.

As we saw with Frances it took a long time for the major airlines to announce anything.

By Friday Ivan will be well into the central US as a tropical depression and well away from Florida.

Enjoy your holiday :)

Alan.

We're flying out on Thursday, and not too worried at the moment Every hour that passes is looking better for the bulk of Florida and unfortunately worse for the Panhandle region.

I've got my computer linked to various webcams over the State and I've noticed that some people have started removing the wooden boarding from their windows in Key West. - Let's hope that's a good sign!
Steve.
