Hurricane Irma?

I am 100% shocked that my power is still on. It's still fairly windy - nowhere near as bad as overnight, of course, but I'm still not going outdoors - so I'm still betting on it going out at some point.

No damage to my house that I can tell. A bit of water came in the bottom of the sliding glass door but I had towels there. There are some roof tiles in my yard but I don't know if they're ours or not.

Good to hear!

My wife and I are due to fly out from the UK to Orlando next Thursday (21st). Staying near WDW at the Regal Oaks just off Highway 192. Can any locals comment on how badly affected by Irma this resort or if we're likely to experience issues/delay flying into MCO next week?

I'm not trying to be a downer but Jose has me a little worried. Gonna try not to worry
It still looks unlikely - but well worth keeping an eye on it.

Even the news stories that try to hype it seem to say it is unlikely - but that can change - so I will be watching in too

I have plans to drive down on Sunday the 17th from Georgia and am just waiting to see how the roads are between here and there before I make a decision. 75 will be clear but I know with power out gas stations can't run and people who evacuated need to get home and they are more important than my vacation. I'm holding steady until around the 14th when I have to decide whether to cancel so I'll watch the news and monitor the roads until then. Meanwhile, we are expecting tiny wind gusts here just north of Atlanta and power outages.

You might be better off just calling/e-mailing the resort directly and asking them what sort of damage they think they've sustained.

It's at least physically smaller than Irma. I think.

I have a trip planned, I'm supposed to arrive this Friday (Sept. 15).. I don't know if I should cancel it or wait how everything goes. If anyone can advise! This is my first time going with my kids and I don't know what to do at this moment!!
Thanks for your help!!
Hang in there. Do not cancel yet. We are supposed to arrive on Thurs, so I understand your anxiety. Right now I'm glued to my phone waiting for MCO to finish assessments and start phasing flights back in. The theme parks are going to open as soon as they are able - likely tomorrow morning (Orlando is technically under curfew till 6p today b/c of wind). It depends on any park damages. Your next hurdle is if your hotel has power and is in ok shape. If the airport opens, you have a hotel, and the parks are running, you'll be in great shape. Disney is a well oiled machine. I would note here, other parts of Orlando and the surrounding area are going to take some time to recover; power, flooding, etc., so plans outside the theme parks you would need to do some checking on.

Good morning! That was a loooong night!

We have no power, and the road behind our house had power lines and trees down. Our four east facing windows all let in water some time last night, and we lost part of our guttering, but the damage seems minimal. The rest of the neighborhood just seem to have trees down everywhere. No one I know has power, so I think it will take a while for everything to get up and running. The wind and rain here is still pretty strong.

DH had the night from hell at the resort he was at. Trees down, fire alarms, multiple guests calling from outer buildings with water leaking through the roof. He was trying to move people at 2am as the wind and rain was so bad he said he couldn't see two feet in front of him. He got three hours sleep on the floor of a front office, now he's out assessing the damage. He can't come home until curfew lifts at 6pm. He says a number of rooms have water damage, but structurally, the buildings did fine.

Glad to hear from you this morning and that you are all safe! I am sorry to hear your husband had such a rough night, but also glad he is safe and I appreciate his willingness to be there.

really tough to speculate until detailed assessment done. Downed trees are one thing but flooding, backed up sewers, water damage, lost power / waterlines can take time to address. I would be more concerned about state of resorts. We went to HHI about a month after last year's hurricane and the devastation was still quite notable with some areas still inaccessible. We saw some earlier pictures of HHI resort and sewage back-ups, swamped pools, entire buildings with extensive water damage etc. were bad.

Walt Disney World Parks and Disney Springs remain closed today. We are beginning an initial assessment of our property. While we experienced high winds and rain, we maintained power throughout the storm.

As the hurricane has passed, we are keeping safety top of mind and working closely with public officials to determine when conditions are clear to make further operational decisions. We will communicate updates as we have more information to share.

No lost power---that's good news!

Hello, I'm not sure if anyone can give advice on my question, but I thought I would go ahead and ask. We are scheduled to arrive around midnight this Friday, the 15th. If the resort hotels are at capacity, would it even be possible for our chosen/reserved hotel to offer us a room? This makes me wonder if we need to go ahead and cancel this vacation.

Seeing all these people on this thread leaving this weekend and later. Starting to feel like I'm the only one flying in Wednesday, ha. But I'm trying to stay optimistic and just staring at MCO's Twitter feed...

My flight to arrive on the 12th hasn't been cancelled as of now. Keeping my hopes up as it appears I will be unable to reschedule my one night due to no rooms available. My son and I decided on a quick trip for MNSSHP...not sure if I should let him have ideas like this anymore lol. Good luck!

I am flying in Tuesday...I really hope all will be well.
Me too. My husband and I have job constraints that really limit when we can travel, so if we can't make it Tuesday, we can pray that the airline gets us there Wednesday and have a shorter trip by one day, or we're going to have to cancel and who knows when we'll next be able to finagle time off?

Do you have a reservation?

You too! We rescheduled once from Saturday, and we could TECHNICALLY re-schedule again to next Saturday, but we haven't seen each other in a year and a half, and we're both pretty desperate to just be there already.
