Hurricane Irma?

Seeing all these people on this thread leaving this weekend and later. Starting to feel like I'm the only one flying in Wednesday, ha. But I'm trying to stay optimistic and just staring at MCO's Twitter feed...

I don't have twitter, but can you please send me a link. Maybe I'll be able to still see the tweets. Thanks!

My flight is on Friday, 9/15, but some of my family are scheduled to go on Wednesday, 9/13. If their flight is still on and the parks will be open, they will head down that day.

Hi, yes we do. I wasn't sure if they would have the ability to turn us away if they are still at capacity when we arrive?
I would think they would contact you If they weren't able to accommodate your reservation, but if you're worried I'd confirm with them before you leave. Even if the resort you were booked at is full, they would have to send you to another resort. I wouldn't worry about it.

Very helpful advice, thank you!

we fly out Wednesday night (hopefully) I tried calling Jetblue to see if they already know if it's cancelled but get disconnected every time I call. I guess I wait some more and see and hope.

You are not alone! We are scheduled to fly in early Wednesday afternoon, and also anxiously checking MCO and my airline. As well as watching Disney for news of the DVC member event scheduled for Wednesday night.

Still haven't cancelled the trip starting the 17th, but I'm on the fence. I assume things will be fine at the parks and whatnot. Just wouldn't want to get in the way either.

If it were me I'd wait to make my decision. That's what I did last week and am glad that I did. Sadly we cancelled our trip less than 24 hours before we were supposed to arrive but I'm still glad that we did. (Part of me loves the idea of all the fun activities but I didn't want to risk causing trauma to my child listening to the storm.)

Regardless, it's probably too early to decide. Also, you will need to read the fine print of the Hurricane Policy as your dates appear to be 7 days after the Hurricane but possibly 6. I wouldn't want you to lose $$ (possibly) if you didn't need to.

Wait and see how things go for the next few days and then make your decision closer to your date.

I packed as if we were going....and sadly didn't have the heart to unpack this weekend so it's all still sitting on the spare bed.

Hope this helps.

I have a trip planned, I'm supposed to arrive this Friday (Sept. 15).. I don't know if I should cancel it or wait how everything goes. If anyone can advise! This is my first time going with my kids and I don't know what to do at this moment!!
Thanks for your help!!
If you are driving I would be hesitant.

Hello, I'm not sure if anyone can give advice on my question, but I thought I would go ahead and ask. We are scheduled to arrive around midnight this Friday, the 15th. If the resort hotels are at capacity, would it even be possible for our chosen/reserved hotel to offer us a room? This makes me wonder if we need to go ahead and cancel this vacation.
I was worried about this - but less so now. You can always call the resort and try to get a feel for that

I am scheduled to fly in on Wednesday also (after postponing from today)..... of course I can change plans again if it is determined that resorts or parks are not ready for vacationers, but I am really hoping that they will be ready to welcome us !

I've been opening our door to the balcony all night to video the storm. You know us men. we never listen lol

You must be from Oklahoma or Texas. I have a video of a tornado that DH took while DD and the dog were in the tornado Shelter by themselves. In his defense (but barely), it wasn't moving towards us- it was parallel.

I'm just so curious...power is down in Orlando, as it is in most of the state of FL. The hotels have generators, so that's fine. Curious how theme parks could possibly open by tomorrow with no power? I mean, I know Disney/universal/seaworld/etc. have a lot of man power and are prepared for bad scenarios...but a huge natural disaster like this? It could take weeks for power to be restored. From my understanding Orlando is taking a pretty bad hit. Is it possible to run a theme park on generators?!

Power is not down everywhere in the Orlando/WDW area. There are some larger areas where power is down- but it all depends on your location and whether lines got knocked down. We have friends that live in an area not too far from WDW, and they never lost power.

I would not cancel if you are staying at a WDW resort (if you are not at a WDW resort- I would call and check with the place you are staying). Disney had crews in place ready to start clean-up as soon as it was safe. I would bet that it does not take them too long to get things cleaned up and safe enough to be running again. So far, reports seem to be that there is not much structural damage at WDW- mostly a bunch of trees/branches down. I live just a few miles from where an F5 tornado left a long path of total destruction. As soon as the businesses near the path which did not sustain heavy damage got their power back on they started putting big signs in their windows that they were open and begging for business. I also got an E-mail last Thursday stating "Galveston is open for business" (Galveston is a beach town south of Houston) and advising that "Galveston tourism has made a full return to business" after Harvey. When they are up and running, they need those tourism dollars to keep their profits from declining and to help fund clean-up. I think if you are staying in the Disney bubble, it will be fine. I would not worry about your resort room- I think most likely you will not have any issues.

We are flying down the 17th I sure hope everything is good by then , my job will not be so forgiving this time around and I may have to cancel and take a loss
