MCO now not closing on Monday. Feel for those who spent all day changes. Got off the Fantasy today and so many are now on the road in rentals iso flying.
They still don't have a "for sure" handle on this hurricane. Anyone planning to travel early/mid this week should be really aware of any updates from MCO, their airlines and local news.
First thing I said when they announced they were closing was it was way too early to do that. Glad they were able to change it, but no telling how many people cancelled plans that they didn’t need to.
Quite frankly, I'm glad I was wrong and they were able to reverse the decision to close MCO on Monday. I was one of the ones that changed our departure from Monday to Sunday once United offered the waivers, but I'm OK with that decision.... even now. While we lose one park day, the crowds have been light enough that we accomplished more in the days we had here than we expected. It's been a great short stay for us. Also, I was a little worried about having zero margin of error if there was a problem with our flight on Sunday. My wife is a teacher and their school year starts on Tuesday.
I have become a huge fan of Brian Shields FB page as a trusted source for Dorian info, and I found out about him from this board. As I live in north Georgia, my main source about Disney weather has been The Weather Channel. So glad to learn about this additional reliable source. And he says we are all still on alert.......
Slightly west, yes, but the chance of hurricane force winds remains under 20% for Orlando.
Disney World is still likely (60-70% chance) to experience tropical storm level winds and probably the accompanying rain. It may not close the parks but it will still likely close a bunch of rides.
Late last year, when we were planning our cross-country RV drive and FW stay, DH and I had debated doing it just about this time (right after Labor Day). DH had a 'feeling' he couldn't shake about our planned date so we went in May.
Best wishes to all of you as you make your decisions and 'venture forth'.
I am bet in the next or the following advisory shifts the forecast a bit further west with a possible landfall in central florida. It is moving a bit faster west then they forecasted. HH are seeing 200mph wind gusts. It is still strengthening
