Hurricane Dorian / WDW Theme Parks Discussion

I don't leave until 9/13 and for how slow this storm is moving, I wonder if I should be making changes. I am just going to watch and wait until the last minute. I sound like my daughter who said to me I am just going to bunker down in my house, I called her nuts and told her to pack up her car and come home for the week. My nerves are worse just worrying about her than my vacation.

Do you mean leave to Orlando or leave from?

I have family getting in to Orlando on 9/13 and we arrive on 9/14. None of us intend to cancel due to Dorian right now. I have every confidence that it will have moved northward and exhausted itself by then. But I am watching a “disturbance” that has formed off of the coast of Africa which has the potential to have an effect on the weather in this hemisphere in 10 days or so.

We booked a room at AKL and are leaving town now. I just can’t stay for this thing. It’s our first hurricane and it’s massive.

No better place to ride out a hurricane than AKL!

With my arrival on 9/13 I am also concerned with that other disturbance.

As someone who lives near the coast in the southeast, this is actually a below average season. The reason is that we have seen less than average tropical activity so far this year. If you want to avoid this type of anxiety, you should never plan a trip to anywhere near the southeast coast or the Gulf of Mexico coast during the months of August, September or October. My wife and I travel almost every year during September to celebrate our anniversary. But, we understand that we may have to cancel or postpone due to the threat of tropical weather. Life goes on.

I’m pondering buying a ticket to Monday’s MNSSHP. Either this is genius and no one will be there or this is stupid ... thoughts?
Same here.

I would wait until tomorrow and see what the rain bands are doing. I think it is very unlikely it will sell out with all the trip cancellations. It might be a really great night for the party. If they cancel you will get a refund, but my fear will be that it would be rainy and they will go ahead with the party but it might be wet and no fun. If you don't mind being at the party in the rain (possibly pouring rain at times), then you could go ahead. It could be a great low crowd party if the rain holds off.
What we experienced as Matthew got closer was bands of rain. It would rain as a band moved through- then stop or really slow down for a while- and then another rain band would come through. As Matthew got closer the bands got heavier. This thing is giving me deja-vu--- right now it seems like it is close to following the same path as Matthew did. Feels like we are kind of watching the same progression as when we were at WDW last time watching coverage constantly. Of course-- that could change at any moment. Hopefully, it will just skirt everywhere and not be a direct hit anywhere.

Scheduled to arrive 9/8.. will that be far enough out that I should be ok or do I need to consider moving my dates of travel?

Just heard that tropical storm force winds will be felt sometime in the next 48 hours. We are playing it by ear for MNSSHP. At this point, we are planning on going. We have the Party Pass. But if winds do pick up too much, I won't risk driving there from home.

We cannot reschedule our trip, we arrive 9/7-9/14. I know the storm will be mostly gone as we are coming from Ky down I-75 but wonder about gas stations/road closures along the way. Theres nothing we can do as me and my wife cannot change the dates we are off work so just hope for the best and hope for decent weather while we are there.

What’s the best place to get info on watching those form? We have a trip at the end of September and I’d like to keep informed. Thanks!
