We are going in August........Hurricane season.......
I always like to plan for worst cases.......
Has anyone been a Disney during a Hurricane what should we expect.

I'm sure the parks are closed but how about food courts should we bring things to entertain ourselves in our hotel rooms.

Do buses run?

Are the hotels closed?

Thanks for the input.

When we were there, the parks closed early the day it was coming (expected to arrive late evening). We were off site and had to travel to the Universal Area for food. The power was out near the area of our hotel. I know to bring extra money for these days. All our food in the refridge went bad including my baby's birthday cake :rolleyes2

We went the last two years during hurricanes (August '04, Oct.'05) - power was out everywhere but the Disney resorts (they have their own hydro company) - the night before and day of the hurricane, the buses didn't run and they told everyone to stay put - we had our DVC one bedroom with full kitchen, so we had plenty of food. The resort restaurant stayed open, and the internal bus was running to the main hall at OKW when it wasn't really bad outside. Otherwise, Disney was great at keeping us informed, always leaving updates on our room phone. They even played movies all day on the resort channel to keep the kids happy. Last year, Wilma cleared out by noon, the sun came out and they told us the buses were running to Magic Kingdom as they were opening that park only, and only for Disney resort guests. We had a blast - it was a beautiful afternoon and the park seemed empty with only resort guests coming and going. Our only concern was getting our vacation started before the hurricane so we wouldn't be stranded in an airport, so when we heard what day Wilma was due to strike (the day we were scheduled to arrive), we called the airline (SW), and because of the weather warning, we were able to switch to a flight a day sooner with no charge. That way we arrived the day before, and were able to get our groceries and return the rental car before the winds picked up. It's hard to predict what the weather will be doing when you go during hurricane season, so just keep an eye for warnings before you go so you can plan accordingly. As long as you're a Disney resort guest, they take excellent care of you, keep your safety in mind at all times, and make sure you can get on with your vacation as quickly as they can once the weather clears. Good luck - we're going Aug. 13-25th this year, so we'll be watching too!
