Hunny even my socks smell like Disney! ~ "relaxing" Sept 2010 trip!1/24/11 RACE TIME!

We were on our way to Magic Kingdom!!! Well after a lengthy wait for a bus. I swear if you see either Lee or I coming towards the bus line you are in…run far away! By the end of the trip I decided we are a curse when it comes to waiting on transportation

We hopped on the next bus to Magic Kingdom and I could tell already that Lee was pretty impressed by the enthusiasm of the Cast Members at POP! and our friendly bus driver. Oh glorious Magic Kindgom…I practically knocked over small children to get off the bus and through the gates!!

Of course I made Lee stop for our first photopass picture in front of the train station. I am just about finished editing photopass pictures and will share those when the CD comes in…wish I had it now!! But for now I do have the pictures we took with our camera.

IMG_1859.jpg

I don’t know if it just me, but no matter how many times I go to Disney World I think to myself “I cannot believe I am really here!” It almost feels like a dream looking back on each trip…ok enough cheesy comments :rotfl:
We were admiring all the Halloween decorations and I pointed out the firehouse to Lee, because I knew he would LOVE it.

IMG_1866.jpg

Just as we were about to walk into the firehouse a cast member started shooing us across the street!!! I started to panic a little like what the heck is happening. Then all of a sudden the Move it! Shake it! Celebrate it! Street Party starts rolling out from backstage in that area and I got some great shots (well at an angle at least)

IMG_1861.jpg

IMG_1862.jpg

IMG_1863.jpg

IMG_1864.jpg

IMG_1865.jpg

Needless to say I was pretty darn pumped up to start the day like this!! We quickly popped in the firehouse gift shop where Lee made a pressed penny and then we headed toward the castle to see the rest of the “Street Party”

IMG_1870.jpg

IMG_1871.jpg

Problem is I learned that everyone congregates in front of the castle for this “Party” and it was a hassle to work our way through. I decided we would start in Adventureland…family tradition of mine. Lee however was officially “dying” because it was H-O-T that day. Well sounds to me like the perfect time to try my first ever DOLE WHIP!! I got the pineapple float and DBF got the pineapple and vanilla swirl. I swear that was the best use of a snack credit ever!!

IMG_1873.jpg

Finally we got on our first ride - Jungle Cruise! We had a female skipper, but I cannot remember her name, maybe cause she wasn’t very funny :headache: I could tell Lee just wasn’t getting it and I was starting to worry - what if he hates this vacation??

IMG_1874.jpg

He said he enjoyed the ride, but I wasn’t convinced!! We completely bypassed the magic carpets and the Tiki Room without me saying a word (my new tactic for avoiding rides). I was hoping he wouldn’t notice, because I didn’t feel like waiting for either of those (I’m so sweet I know :goodvibes) We decided on Pirates next and spotted Pirate Goofy outside…Goofy is Lee’s favorite…I asked if he wanted to wait in line for a picture, but he settled for a picture of just Goofy.

IMG_1876.jpg

Now the first time I rode Pirates I cried like a baby because it was dark (well I was 7), but I LOVE that ride and I was hoping DBF would too! Now have you ever watched a funny movie you LOVE, I mean really LOVE with people who have never seen it before? You want those people to LOVE it too and if you are like me you are insane and stress the entire time you watch the movie because you want to make sure they get all the jokes. This is how I was starting to feel with Lee on the rides at Disney (and probably felt that way the entire time we were there)…I needed to just sit back and enjoy even if he didn’t! When we exited Pirates he was really excited, he had LOVED it too and he even asked if we could go back on it later…Hallelujah!!

Next we hit up Splash Mountain – my absolute favorite of all rides at Disney – except I really don’t like the getting wet part of it. Lee was very unsure of the drop and the little drops in between freaked him out, but he was very impressed on the theme and story that played out during the ride, yay :thumbsup2

Still nice and dry we were ready for our lunch ADR at Tony’s Town Square. On the way to lunch, pictures in front of the castle!

IMG_1878.jpg

And please someone tell me they can recognize the famous balloon CM…I have seen him in at least 4 other TRs, but all I could get was a quick picture of him and he turned around!

IMG_1867.jpg

Tony's is one restaurant that was new to me. I booked familiar ones throughout the week just because Lee tends to be a picky eater and I wanted to make sure he would like my picks (can you tell yet that I am a people pleaser?? I need to visit Disney alone and do everything my way lol) We had about a 10 to 15 minute wait, so we shopped around, I really wish those cut outs where you could take pictures were open. Now let me tell you DO NOT eat here at lunch if you want a quiet and romantic time :lmao: IT WAS LOUD and it WAS PACKED…Are restaurants in Disney always packed or is it just free dining?? We were seated in the "sun room" and I took a picture of Lady and Tramp on the window.

IMG_1881.jpg

I enjoyed our view of Magic Kingdom guests, though I sort of preferred the look of the main dining room. Poor Lee learned fast that Dsiney does not serve what he calls “real sweet tea” which is the brewed kind, the tea they have I think is a fountain type? It’s different than “southern sweet tea” – but hey I’m from the north so what do I know?? I picked pomegranate lemonde – YUM!!! Lee ordered spaghetthi (he couldn’t decide between sausage or meatballs so they gave him some of both) and I ordered chicken parm. The portions were HUGE, tasty, but nothing to write home about

IMG_1882.jpg

The dessert on the other hand…oh man! Lee ordered the seasonal cheesecake which was pumpkin and I tried the Tiramisu. I wish I ordered the cheesecake, but he was nice enough to share :goodvibes Now I have constant cravings for it and even went to cheesecake factory here in Richmond to get some – but it wasn’t the same :sad2: I wish I had taken a picture of our dessert plates…they had lady and the tramp stenciled in chocolate on them…the details like that impress us both

We decided it was time to go back to POP! after receving a text that our room was ready. We wanted to get settled and take a nap (though at Disney I could probably go without sleep all week).

Up Next: Quick trip to POP and back to MK for more rides and Wishes!

Love the update!! NOT a cheesy comment...I get the same way...I always have to stop at the end of Main ST...look at the Castle...and sigh:) And every trip...knowing its the last time I will see the Castle til next trip....I always stop and turn around and do it again:)

HA HA! I was reading to fast...or I need glasses...thought I read "fe

male stripper:..oops skipper..what attraction is THAT?!!!

I love Splash MTn too......we actually had the violinist play "Zip a dee do dah" at our wedding:)

Ok....so are you decided for sure yet if you are doing next years Wine and DIne?????

WAIT....dont tell us...save it to the end:)

Haha! I was the SAME way the first time I went to Disney with my then-boyfriend, now husband. I wanted him to love everything just as much as I did and it totally made me nervous!

What a fun start to your day with the street party going on!

I can't wait to hear all about your trip. I can't believe you toured the parks for a week before the marathon. I'd never have made it though the half if I had done parks first. I'm always exhausted after a week of Disney.

The last time I went to Tony's they put me in the sunroom too. Nice, but not as nice as the regular restaurant.

I know how you feel about the people pleasing. I tried so hard to make sure that DH had a great time last trip so that he would be more likely to go back. I ended up missing a bunch of stuff I wanted to do. I already told him that next trip, since he refuses to warm up to Disney we are just going to do it my way. I'm picking where I want to eat, which parks we are going to, and if he doesn't like my choices that day I will take the bus with my dd and he can stay behind in the room.

Tony's looks okay. I think DD would like the restaurant b/c of the Lady and the Tramp stuff, but I don't want blah food. The pictures look pretty underwhelming. The pumpkin cheesecake sounds so good, but I doubt they'll keep that around until May. We are already going to do Via Napoli and Mama Melrose so I don't want to much italian.

That poor CM selling the balloons. I'm sure he never imagined being in pretty much every trip report on the Dis. I have seen him on pretty much every recent TR. He must work everyday!

Haha it wasn't THAT kind of a cruise!!

Aww thats sweet, I love when they play that song at the end of the ride :goodvibes

Well I haven't made my mind up about next year's wine and dine yet...I REALLY want to..heck I want to do them all...so maybe by the end of my TR I will know :rotfl: Are you doing it again?

Its nerve racking!! I don't know why but during the street party I got a little emotional...I think I was just excited to finally be there after all my planning

I actually started to not feel so hot on Friday and most of Saturday, but I just made sure to relax all day Saturday to prepare... I think I am meant for night races :lmao:

Its so hard, because you cant please everyone and you need to think about yourself too! Next time I go to Disney I want to have a more relaxing time if that is even possible :goodvibes

Yeah it wasn't the best use of a TS meal, but I wanted to try something new. I actually saw that CM on 2 different days on Main Street, poor guy!!

Hi!!! I loved the tsart of your trip report where you described your trip as perfectly planned and poorly executed! I am hoping to start my TR soon and those words are a perfect explanation!!!

Your trip has got off to a great start, looking forward to reading more!:)

I love that you started off your morning with the street party...so fun! :yay:

The castle looks so cool with the Halloween decorations...it's really making me wish that I could take a fall trip...if only my teaching schedule would allow...:sad2:

YAY...you got to try a dole whip! :woohoo: Aren't they the best?

So glad that Lee is starting to enjoy the world! :goodvibes How could he not? ;)

Oh my gosh...that balloon guy is the same one from my trip! He is truly a DIS celebrity! :cool2: I've seen him on a few TRs as well...

:goodvibes Welcome and thank you!! Yes I planned our trip out perfectly and then Lee announced he wanted to "relax" and my plan went out the window!! Let me know when you start your TR so I can follow along!

I can imagine a teaching schedule is super tough to plan any vacation besides breaks or summer time...which of course are usually busy/hot times! I usually visit in the first weeks of December and I am starting to like the fall trips a little bit better...though I do want to get back to see the Christmas lights sometime soon :goodvibes

Only problem with visiting in the fall is most of the time the have that crane behind the castle and this time there was a mini one working in the background to the right in Fantasyland

I LOVED the dole whip, the swirl with vanilla that Lee ended up getting was actually my favorite

I am not sure either! Depends on how I fare in Jan!!! I am a night owl..so cant wait to see how I do in the morning:scared1:
I would love to do WIne and Dine again....us Inaugural's should get a discount if we do it again!!!:rolleyes1

I'm joining! I absolutely love your mani/pedi! I am so jealous, and also a little inspired. :lmao:

That is so cool that you were running the Wine and Dine 1/2 marathon. I have just taken up running myself, and I have a long way to go, but it's my goal to run a 1/2 marathon in Disney soon as well.

Shannon,

After WIne&Dine, do you ever think you will be able to do a Half ..if its NOT in Disney??!!!

I dont think I can! LOL

Yeah I feel like I do better at night, but maybe I should try the Jan or Princess one just to see and compare :rotfl: I would love it if they gave us a discount, we deserve it :thumbsup2

Thank you :cutie: I just started running in 2009 and I LOVE It now...I was never active like this before either...but I started out slow and hope to improve my time on future races :goodvibes

Shannon,

After WIne&Dine, do you ever think you will be able to do a Half ..if its NOT in Disney??!!!

I dont think I can! LOL

Honestly, NO! :rotfl: I just don't think I could do that distance without it being Disney. If I were to EVER do a full marathon it would have to be Disney :goodvibes My only regret is that we didn't run through MK, do you get to in the Jan. one?

Back to POP we go…I’m typically a hardcore WDW visitor, once Im out in the parks – I am out for the entire day, but of course we needed to settle into our room and I really wanted to change my clothes. We had room 7451, it was the 80’s by the computer pool, but on the opposite side of the building, facing a bunch of trees and guess what else we were facing? The Walt Disney World entrance sign!! I didn’t know you could see it from POP and boy was I excited – I mean everyone loves the sight of that sign :goodvibes

IMG_1885.jpg

I was NOT excited about how far we were from the bus stops and food court, but hey its Disney it will all be ok :goodvibes I have decided next time we visit we are going to try a split stay of 5 days moderate 2 days deluxe…any suggestions of which ones to try out?

Here are a few pictures of our room, we made a mess within 5 minutes of being in the room and eek there were love bugs in the room. I am no girly girl, but they were creeping me out, so I had to shoo them away, but I swear they were in full force during this trip (at least in the beginning). We had a refurbed room with a King bed.

IMG_1883.jpg

IMG_1884.jpg

After a quick nap and change of clothing we were off to the food court to grab dinner! I took a few pictures on the way out, because Lee LOVES Roger Rabbit and we were in that building! Also he used to work in IT and is a computer geek so being by the computer pool was fitting as well!!

IMG_1886.jpg

IMG_1887.jpg

IMG_1888.jpg

IMG_1889.jpg

I had to take a picture of my tye dyed cheesecake. It was soooo good, but I have to tell you that eating brightly colored food freaks me out because I didn’t want my teeth to turn the different colors lol

IMG_1890.jpg

After our quick dinner we were off to Magic Kingdom again. The goal was to hit up a few rides and then watch Wishes. We had time to check out Main Street again and then we headed to Liberty Square. It was a little stormy out that night, you can see in our picture when we arrived.

castle.jpg

First we checked out Hall of Presidents…where I swear I was going to hurt the people in front of us talking! It really irritates me when people ruin a ride or attraction by talking…enough venting! Next up was Haunted Mansion and during my first visit to WDW I broke the turnstyle here because I was so scared I ran the wrong way through it :lmao: I was really happy we were going on at night time and it was spooky feeling, Lee LOVED this ride too, yay!! I realized this has to be one of my favorites now, it is so well done. After a few rides and walking through shops we decided to get our photo in front of the castle (our photopass one came out better)

IMG_1892.jpg

Then we hit Buzz Lightyear before the fireworks. We ended up doing this one twice, because we were having so much fun with it. Lee was spinning it around trying to keep me from getting points and yes I was cheap and took a blurry picture of a picture…don’t judge!! :rotfl:

IMG_1897.jpg

We just couldn’t find a comfortable spot for Wishes and somehow ended up in the middle of Main Street. I loved watching but about halfway through Lee wanted to leave because he didn't want to deal with the bus crowds when it was finished. I agreed just because I tend to panic a bit in very large crowds. I am glad we saw most of it that night though. Lee’s wonderful camera is NO GOOD at night time :headache:…so this is all I have…I had a video but it mysteriously vanished

IMG_1899.jpg

We were back at POP and in bed around 11 that night…we were both exhausted!!

Up next: A full wonderful day at Magic Kingdom…that is if we ever wake up in time!!

Love love love the Castle pics:) Thanks for sharing as I never got to MK at night this trip:(
And you got a nice new POP room:) Looks nice!!!! Did you ask for the fridge..or was it just there? Like the placement of it...3 years ago they were old looking and just dropped off in the middle of the floor! lol
I have only stayed at FQ..and I loved it cause its so compact and easy to get around!!! Plus the boat to DTD...

Race talk....(lol)..Jan's Half does go through MK and the MK area resorts and ends in EPCOT...I almost did Princess instead...but couldnt wait that long...I still dont trust myself not to slack off working out! lol Rates are way cheap in Jan..Pop is going for $61 a night with the special offer public discount!! Mods are like $107...Im doing a 3 or 4 night quick trip solo...thats it!

Loving the TR!!

Subbing! I can't wait to read about the half marathon! I just talked my fiance into running it with me next year. Great TR so far!!

Hi Shannon! I saw that you had started a TR, and you've been kind enough to read mine so I thought I should return the favor. Now off to multi-quote...

Oh glorious Magic Kindgom…I practically knocked over small children to get off the bus and through the gates!!

 Did you knock over any scooters? :rotfl2:

I don’t know if it just me, but no matter how many times I go to Disney World I think to myself “I cannot believe I am really here!” It almost feels like a dream looking back on each trip

Don't tell anyone, but I feel the same way.

Well sounds to me like the perfect time to try my first ever DOLE WHIP!! I got the pineapple float and DBF got the pineapple and vanilla swirl. I swear that was the best use of a snack credit ever!!

Hey, this sounds familiar. :lmao:

Next we hit up Splash Mountain – my absolute favorite of all rides at Disney – except I really don’t like the getting wet part of it. Lee was very unsure of the drop and the little drops in between freaked him out, but he was very impressed on the theme and story that played out during the ride, yay :thumbsup2

He sounds like me. I hate drops. Hate 'em. As much as Indiana Jones hates snakes.

Glad you liked Tony's! We were pleasantly surprised there. And your dusk/stormy castle pictures are very cool! :thumbsup2

What a great view from Pop!

I love the Roger Rabbit and the computer pool. I'm sure DH and DD will get a good laugh about that since I  my computer.

I can't wait to try the cheesecake. It looks yummy, but kind of gross at the same time.

Sorry about the talkers in HOP. That would irritate me too.

Loving the TR!!

I have been hinting (aka begging) that Santa brings me a new camera this Christmas, because night time pics were impossible! I am glad I at least have a few of the castle.

You know, I have stayed at POP about 3 or 4 times and that is the first time I have had a fridge in my room, I didn't request it. I am wondering if this is part of the refurb? or maybe because we were given a handicap accessible room (since we asked for a king bed and all) :confused3

Wow that is cheap!! I would love to do one like that where you get to travel through MK. I think that would be a fun park to run, I am sure you will have a blast :goodvibes fit me in your suitcase? :rotfl:

Subbing! I can't wait to read about the half marathon! I just talked my fiance into running it with me next year. Great TR so far!!

Thank you for joining :goodvibes I wish DBF would run it with me! It was a blast, but I am spoiled now and want to only run at disney!!

Hi Shannon! I saw that you had started a TR, and you've been kind enough to read mine so I thought I should return the favor. Now off to multi-quote...

Welcome, Welcome!! :thumbsup2 I'm not as creative as you are with your TR, so lets hope I dont put you to sleep :lmao:

 Did you knock over any scooters? :rotfl2:

Oh those glorious scooters!! I often stop walking to talk and got clipped by a few this trip (ill take partial blame for it :rotfl:)

:He sounds like me. I hate drops. Hate 'em. As much as Indiana Jones hates snakes.

I LOVE drops and thrill rides, I HATE spinning...we made a deal that we would compromise and try certain rides for each other this trip. This was AFTER we had a blow out fight in front of my family because he wouldn't ride any rollercoasters with me at Busch Gardens in VA :rotfl2:

What a great view from Pop!

I love the Roger Rabbit and the computer pool. I'm sure DH and DD will get a good laugh about that since I  my computer.

I can't wait to try the cheesecake. It looks yummy, but kind of gross at the same time.

Sorry about the talkers in HOP. That would irritate me too.

I thought that was a pretty cool view, Lee was very confused how WDW was set up and how we were able to see that sign - I told him it was magic :wizard:

I loved that we got that building, because he made me watch that movie a few months ago and it was the first time I have ever seen it!

The cheesecake was good...it almost tasted like cheesecake with a small layer of red velvet cake?? Or Im going crazy :rotfl2:
