Hungry Are The Damned! 10/15/07-10/25/07 - COMPLETED W/LOTS OF PICS!!!

Brenda,

Come visit us in OreGONE :rolleyes1 and you'll be slathering that Tillamook icecream on your missing leg for moisturizer, it is so common.
Isn't it funny how we take things for granted?
Joke with my girlfriend, whose husband is trying to get her to move to their beach house, is that she can work at the cheese factory giving tours or handing out the FREE ice cream samples.
That used to always be on the list of things to do at the beautiful (rainy) Oregon Coast. We used the kids as an excuse to get our ice cream sample.

Stay warm,

Deb

Deb, I may just have to drag Jay out to OreGone if Tillamook is making ice cream as well as cheese! Just let us know if you need any AIGS. :rotfl2:

It's finally starting to warm up - I saw a forecast showing that we might make it into the low 60s by the end of the week. But that doesn't mean much around here this time of year - it's tradition that once the tulips and other spring flowers make an appearance we get one last hard freeze.

Thanks for stopping by - it's always good to hear from you! :goodvibes

Another fabulous installment Bendy :thumbsup2 Finally, a picture of something I would actually eat! :lmao: The burger looks yummy but what the heck is up with the runaway bacon??? Perhaps the chef thought it a good idea to partake in those $10 milkshakes before starting his shift

Thanks for the much needed break, back to scrapbooking I go :goodvibes

Yum! Those milkshakes look ace. I wish I had one!!

Brendaaaa, you didn't try the chocolate tart for dessert!! Yummiest dessert at Disney World!!! Seriously, I've been craving it since the day I ate it, in 2006!

And you know, Mia's milkshake that Vincent Vega freaked about was actually only a $5 milkshake. I never thought that was outlandish for a big, delicious, creamy milkshake like what she had. And it's certainly not outlandish now for a milkshake.

Did you have ketchup on your fries? Get it? Ketchup.... Ketchup...

Oh, I've seen Pulp Fiction too many times. :rolleyes1

Fabulous update B ! Now I'm seeing the error of my ways by dodging WDW dining. That cheeseburger looked amazing and I would absolutely partake in one of those shakes...alcohol and all.

I suppose you and Jay need to be glad that your dinner partners didn't have a few of those shakes and pop a wheelie to dump the two of you laughing hyenas right out of the back of your car. ;) BTW..the two of you can ride with us anytime.

Thanks for the early morning laughs.:rotfl2:

I love the pic of you guys in the back of the caddy......:lovestruc

The food looks good too. We made a mistake when we went here; we didn't stick to burgers and "simple" foods. I think we had something italian--not bad tasting, but not what we should have ordered. Oh and my DS12 had way too many shakes (non alcoholic, of course..)..

Can't wait to read about your Food & Wine pairing.:thumbsup2

Great update!:thumbsup2 We love the Sci-Fi. It's a fun place to eat.:goodvibes

Brenda, you and Jay are definitely not the only ones who snicker and laugh at the clips at the Sci Fi. My DF and I were giggling at various ones throughout our time at Sci Fi. We enjoyed them but thought they looped too quickly. By the time we left, we'd seen them loop around 3-4 times.

We're also back from Vegas. Thankfully the Mr. Peptic Ulcer didn't flare up at all while we were there. I guess my daily talks either bored it into submission or scared it into proper behavior. All in all, we had a pretty good time. We didn't eat at any really upscale places but did manage to find some really nice 2 for 1 deals on buffets on Fremont Street. (For those who may be wondering, pick up a sheet of coupons down at the O2 bar on Fremont street. I believe there were 3 of the 2 for 1 coupons. We used two of them.) Amazingly, we had a $3.95 steak and eggs breakfast that was pretty darned tasty too. From what I can figure, over 3 days the two of us spent $104 total on meals. (Those meals included 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 3 dinners all told.) Not too bad! I'd guess Brenda and Jason will spend that on just one meal.

Glad to see your reviews, Brenda. I've got a feeling that you two are going to really enjoy Vegas with all the free cocktails you can drink while you're playing. They sure don't hold back on the liquor on them either. Definitely get down to Fremont Street while you're there. We enjoyed it much more than the Strip and found it to be far less costly than the main area.

Okay, I have come out of lurkdom! The idea of you asking this man if you could take a picture of his Sponge Bob hat is funny, but the fact that he had no idea who was actually on his hat when you asked made me laugh out loud. Lucky for you he was friendly and not hostile! :rotfl2: Thanks for some great posts!

Spongebob Dude. Hysterical.

OMG Brenda you killed me with this installment.:rotfl2: The flashing police glow cube lights......:lmao:

We're planning on trying Sci-Fi on our "all new" trip in November, also planning on sticking with the burgers!

 Spongebob Dude is from the same place as me :) Wales :teeth:

I can assure you that we are not Spongebob-ignorant in Wales... in fact, much to the horror of DBF I was trying to take a photo of a car in front of us with my phone the other day, which had the whole Bikini Bottom gang in the back window except for Plankton... which I found HI-larious since it seemed obvious that Plankton had kidnapped them all, and they were flagging us down for help :)

DBF did not agree. :rotfl:

I love Patrick!

Did any of the movie clips feature my favorite actor, Troy McClure?

Brenda, you and Jay are welcome anytime. Don't know if word is out in the midwest, but Portland has a much acclaimed dining scene. Endless places for you to try. I'll even scramble up some aigs for you! ;:thumbsup2

Those Sci-Fi burgers and shakes looked really yummy. Never wanted to waste a dinner adr there, but think we'll try lunch.

Deb

Brenda - That is too funny about the Spongebob guy. I would of totally taken a picture for anyone. I remember when me and DH went to Disney a couple of years ago. We would look for our "victims" to take our family picture in front of the castle well guess what we took a picture for some couple and then took ours but ours didn't come out :(. (note to self, next time you're in Disney get a digital camera, we have one now) Anyway the family in the Sci-Fi, boo-hoo on them for not being funny. Oh and I glad to hear that I am not the only one who laughs out loud when nobody else does. That milkshake looks yum-o. Need one of those too. I'm writing down a drink to do list for our next trip. Thanks for the update. I love your updates, they make me happy :cool1:

Hi Cass - thanks for taking the time to come read our update! Jay and I just assumed that those were bacon-tenticles from some kind of pig-octopus hybrid they have in the kitchen ... in keeping with the Sci-Fi theme of the restaurant. ;)

Yum! Those milkshakes look ace. I wish I had one!!

The milkshakes were great! If you ask me they ought to pattern the menu at Sci-Fi after the one at Beaches and Cream - it would fit the 50's motif much better than the weird mix currently being offered.

And we know in the movie it's only a $5 milkshake, but we thought we should adjust for inflation and the cost of alcohol! :rotfl2:

And I love the ketchup joke ... I still giggle about that one no matter how many times I hear it.

Thanks for reading!

You must be feeling better if you're venturing over here to look at food again. It's nice to hear from you, Mother Goose! :goodvibes

I think that as long as you do your homework you can have some very good Disney dining experiences - nothing's ever perfect but we haven't been disappointed on too many occasions. And that burger was very good - cooked to order and nice and juicy!

I suppose you and Jay need to be glad that your dinner partners didn't have a few of those shakes and pop a wheelie to dump the two of you laughing hyenas right out of the back of your car. BTW..the two of you can ride with us anytime.

Next time we'll be sure to hitch a ride with you and Chuck! And we never thought about them trying to dump us out ... :rotfl2:

Thanks for reading Nancy!

Great update!

Thanks Jenny!

I love the pic of you guys in the back of the caddy......:lovestruc

Thanks Paige - I actually don't care for the way I look, but it's fun picture so who really cares if I look brunk ... I mean, drunk. ;)

The food looks good too. We made a mistake when we went here; we didn't stick to burgers and "simple" foods. I think we had something italian--not bad tasting, but not what we should have ordered. Oh and my DS12 had way too many shakes (non alcoholic, of course..)..

Can't wait to read about your Food & Wine pairing.

I wasn't sure at first if I wanted to even try Sci-Fi after some of the reviews that I've read around here, but I realized that most of the poor opinions stemmed from people ordering things that just don't belong on this restaurant's menu in my humble opinion. They should stick to burgers, fries, dawgs, and simple sandwiches and then throw in a killer dessert menu. Most people are going to Sci-Fi for the atmosphere anyway, so why try to dazzle with pasta and southwest-inspired cuisine?

Stick with the burgers and you'll do just fine next time! :thumbsup2

Great update!:thumbsup2 We love the Sci-Fi. It's a fun place to eat.

Thanks so much! And you're right - it's a lot of fun to eat there!

Thank goodness it's not just us! We were really starting to get creeped out by how quiet it was in there. And I agree - the loop is a little too quick. I'd like to see them mix it up some more.

We're also back from Vegas. Thankfully the Mr. Peptic Ulcer didn't flare up at all while we were there. I guess my daily talks either bored it into submission or scared it into proper behavior. I'm so glad to hear that the ulcer didn't make any gruesome appearances while you were in Vegas! I think we may head over to Fremont one night with Jay's aunt & uncle, so I'll keep that in mind.

Your food budgeting abilities rival those of my mother - Grimace - which is not to imply that you are anything like her in personality. But that woman can budget with the best of 'em ... the better to gamble with my dear!

And boy, do you have us pegged with that last comment? I'm almost embarrassed ... almost. ;)

Glad to see your reviews, Brenda. I've got a feeling that you two are going to really enjoy Vegas with all the free cocktails you can drink while you're playing. Thanks for taking the time to read! I don't really think we're going to be doing much gambling while we're in Vegas - it's not really our thing. Although sometimes Jay likes to play blackjack. But that's OK - we still manage to get in a few drinks.

Okay, I have come out of lurkdom! Thanks for de-lurking - it's always nice to hear from readers who've been silently following along! We were very lucky that this man was good-humored. I hate to think what could have happened otherwsie.

And Jay and I both thought it was kind of odd that he would wear that type of hat without even knowing what it was supposed to be. Maybe people from Wales are daft, too?

Spongebob Dude. Hysterical.

Thanks - we thought so too!

 Spongebob Dude is from the same place as me: Wales :teeth:

DBF did not agree. :rotfl:

I love Patrick!

Hi there Hayley! Are people from Wales as goofy as those of us in the US?

And what a riot ... the entire SpongeBob gang in the back window of a car!! :lmao: I think you're absolutely right - Plankton kidnapped them and was trying to escape before anyone could notice. Too bad you couldn't get a picture - I would have loved to have seen it!

OMG Brenda you killed me with this installment. The flashing police glow cube lights......:lmao:

We're planning on trying Sci-Fi on our "all new" trip in November, also planning on sticking with the burgers!

Hi Kathy - glad you enjoyed this one! I think you'll really get a kick out of Sci-Fi ... just keep it simple. :goodvibes

Did any of the movie clips feature my favorite actor, Troy McClure?

Sadly, no. And I would have given my pointy incisors to see a clip from his starring role in the stage version of Planet of the Apes. :rotfl2:

Deb

It usually takes a while for news from either coast to trickle down to us stinkbums out here in the middle of the country. We had heard that Seattle had a pretty good dining scene going on, but not Portland. We'll definitely keep that in mind for future trips - thanks so much!

And I personally think that Sci-Fi is the perfect place for lunch. I wouldn't want to have dinner there, either; but it was a great stop for a mid-day meal.

Brenda - That is too funny about the Spongebob guy. I would of totally taken a picture for anyone. I remember when me and DH went to Disney a couple of years ago. Hi Laura! Thanks for reading - glad to know our updates make you happy because that makes me happy and now things will just spiral out of control into a happiness vortex... :rotfl2:

It's good to know that there are some others out there who laugh while they're at Sci-Fi. How can you not? As an "adult", I mean. Although with the kind of stuff that passes for children's entertainment these days I'm not sure why a lot of the kids aren't snickering too. ;)

As for pictures ... we always offer to take them for people if it looks like they need some help. And we've had some people offer to do the same for us when we're in the middle of those self-portraits we like so much. :goodvibes

I've always wanted to say that. :rotfl2:

Great news! Zip-zap-grabulous news!

We're going to WDW this October! :dance3: :yay:  :cool1:

We have a tenative reservation through DVC that I'm still trying to tweak a bit, but long story short is that a some good fortune has smiled on us (sadly not the Powerball or we'd be there for the entire 6 weeks of F&W) and we can now swing one week in October this year on top of some of the other smaller things we already have in the works!!

Join me in the food love, won't you? :grouphug:

Great news for all of us, too!!! Yaaaaaay!

Was I the only one who let out a little Huzzah! at the mention of the BiMonSciFiCon? BiMonSciFiCon. It's hard not to keep saying it. It just feels good.

And, Huzzah! again for October and the good 'ol DVC. Now we shall have more adventures to distract us from the hustle and bustle of our daily going's on. Squee! :)
