Hungry Are The Damned! 10/15/07-10/25/07 - COMPLETED W/LOTS OF PICS!!!

Just be sure to ask for a damn teapot!!! :rotfl:

I am using this as a double duty post... first, to thank you for a delightful TR (which will easily subscribe me to this thread!) and secondly to comment on the lack of teapots at your tea party. My family does an annual F&W trek in October and we were there about the same time you and Jay were there. We stayed at the BC and made the 2007 trip into an extended family reunion.

Since I love it so much, one of the things I planned for the girlies on the trip was tea at the Grand. My sister, SIL, both DDs and I were there (I think) the day after you and Jay were! At our table, two ordered herbal tea infusions and the other three of us had black teas. The herbal teas came in the pressed pots but the black teas were in the lovely teapots with cozies. Our server told us that they were serving the herbals in the pressed pots for the very reason you were given. So, I have to assume that if you want the "damned pot and cozy" you will either have to ask for it specifically or order one of the black teas. :goodvibes I tried to find a picture, but all of them were taken pre-tea delivery. All that is on the table is the cups and the bubbly!

I am enjoying reading your TR and intend to continue until you are done. You might spark the muse in me to do one for our next trek. DH and I are going in September/October sans DDs (aged 21 and 29) and are planning to use the Deluxe Dining Plan to gorge on signature restaurants and his favorite BIG breakfast buffets. After your report on Bistro we might have to look into an OOP dinner there too. Thanks for the chuckles and the insight!

Loved the Spoodles review and pictures! I love pistachio ice cream and we had some really good pistachio gelatto at Tutto Italia I think you would have liked, Brenda; there weren't any actual nuts in it that I remember!

All these pictures are making me hungry and a little sad--I don't know if we're going to have much food budget next trip. We got a little (20%) code in an email and I lost my mind and booked 3 nights at Pop (not the crazy part), and 3 nights at the Grand Floridian (the :scared1: part)! We are not GF budget people. I had a week at WL standard booked that I cancelled. I was almost sick and couldn't sleep after I did it--DH said quit worrying about it, you have 10 months to worry. I hope the other guests of the GF are not embarrassed of us carrying in our Kroger bags of food, snacks, beer.:rotfl: Maybe I'll bring a crock pot!

& you've got 10 months to save!!!

Collect all your spare change (mine comes to a couple of hundred every year...)

Take back all your cans if your state gives the deposit...

Ask all your families for gift cards for either Disney or the Visa or Amex kind so you can use it for food, etc...

& my favorite... run a 50/50 at your next big family function and then guilt whoever won into giving you the other half...:rotfl2: (nah...that doesn't work for my family either, but hey.. you never know...)

Read Erica's great Trippie "Geeks on a budget" about her DCL trip and see what kind of tips we gave her there... she did it UNDER budget... (although she fully expects to go into bankruptcy for her next cruise... :rolleyes1 )

See Brenda... there's hope for us tea people after all!!!

You just have to stop ordering that organic stuff!!!

Stick to the real tea... brew it strong enough to dance on... load it up with lots of milk and sugar and then cleanse your pallet with more bubbly!!!

I'll try to come back and post some responses later on this evening once I get home from work, but I just wanted to put out a quick APB for any of our friends in Arkansas, Tennessee, and points south ... hope you and your families are safe and sound after all those storms that plowed through the region on Tuesday. Our thoughts are with you - please let us know that you're all OK. :grouphug:

I wouldn't worry about that at all. GF could use a little more culture! :lmao:

DFi and I were toured all the big deluxe resorts while we were there in December. At both the Grand Floridian and Yacht Club we jokingly referred to one another as Bif and Buffy. He, of course, felt like he needed a nice sweater to even enter those establishments. (I think the formality of both just really intimidated him. That or he was embarrassed when I stuck my fingernail through the side of the ginger bread house. :confused3 ) Needless to say, we won't be staying at either despite how pretty they are; they just don't seem to fit our personalities.

I do hope you have a great time there though!

Thanks for that! We made it okay. Most of my family is in Memphis, and somehow they managed to all fare well too! Thanks for thinking of us!

We're ok as well. Some damage to the house, and our neighbors' houses, but we all made it through.

Thanks for asking. :goodvibes

Glad to hear everyone got out ok... I can't imagine what it would be like to live through storms like those!!!

Actually he needed a retro Izod shirt, tennis whites and racket to fit in... (and a yacht...)

& I used to be a babysitter during my teens up on Martha's Vineyard (I'm Muffy...well, my family nickname when my mother REALLY wants to get my attention in crowded shopping malls... is Muff) and I think I was the only one on the island with a dead alligator shirt (Izod upside down...)

Just out of curiosity, how many glasses did you get out of that 'carafe' of Spoodles sangria?

Knowing Brenda...

They just sucked it out with a straw...

Ok... How many glasses???

& you know I haven't had Sangria in a long time and the last time I saw it it came out of a cheap jug... :confused3

You know I saw Izod tennis shoes out for this spring, front and center of a trendy shoe store at the mall! I can't wait for everyone to start turning up the collars of their polo shirts!

And I remember this girl in high school used to put a piece of masking tape over the alligator on her shirts that her mom kept buying her. She also wore safety pins in her ears instead of earrings. :rotfl2:

andiepie, I hope the damage is easily repaired and I am most sincerely glad that you and your family escaped unharmed. When it storms somewhere I always worry about my DIS, and other, friends.

Maraena, I am with you on the upscales places. I could afford them but they are are not my style. They would probably require that I wear shoes or some such. Nice places to visit but I would not want to live there. Different strokes for different folks and I are very, very different. :rotfl:

Lemme think ... :scared:

I'd say about six glasses ... you saw the glasses we were drinking out of in that picture, right? We filled them about 3/4 full, but keep in mind that there was ice melting in the carafe so by the time we got to the last two glasses it was watered down somewhat. Still quite good. Not as good as the Sangria that I make in a real pitcher with a whole bottle of wine and lots of other good stuff, but certainly an enjoyable vacation alternative.

Somehow I have managed to give the impression that Jay and I are uncouth drinkers ... we like to savor our alcohol and pretend that we are refined (even if we aren't). Extend those pinkies when you drink!

For the record ... the only drink I use a straw with is Long Island ice tea. And I haven't had one of those in many years. Let me pass along some hard earned advice, my friends: don't drink six Long Island ice teas on an empty stomach....ever. :scared1:

The Yacht Club makes me feel like I shouldn't touch anything or I'll leave smeary fingerprints! And I will admit that I've felt conspicuous on those occasions when I've arrived at the GF for afternoon tea directly from a theme park wearing shorts splattered with Splash Mountain water - vintage 1978 - hair frizzing and flying in a dozen different directions and a small chocolate stain on my shirt from a little Mickey bar love. But then I just remind myself that it's a vacation resort and I don't worry about it any longer.

And then I proceed to stir sugar and milk into my tea with my finger ... who needs a spoon? ;)

Glad to hear you and yours are well, Sunny! :goodvibes

Hi andiepie! I'm so glad to know that you and Senora Crankypants and everyone else is OK. I hope the damage to your home and your neighbors homes isn't too severe and can be repaired quickly. We'll be thinking about you - please keep us posted.

Oh yeah! I totally grew up in the 80s with that whole flip the collar on the polo trend. It was really scary when people wore two polos at the same time and flipped both collars! Oh, the humanity!!! :scared1:

Safety pins for earrings ... was she a Sid Vicious fan???

Heh, we did the deluxe resorts bathroom tour too. We each would go into every bathroom we saw and then report out to the other as to what they contained. Yes, we're weird but we like it. I think DFi even got a few shots of the various bathrooms to go along with his Year of the Million Strollers theme. :rotfl:

Funniest scenario was when I was asked where something was in GF. The person specifically walked around DFi to get to me. I had to explain that I wasn't staying there and had no idea where anything was. DFi walked up to me about that time, put his arm around my waist and grinned. The look the inquirer gave us was priceless. (For the record, DFi was wearing one of his numerous 'beer' shirts with some sort of witty saying. I believe he had all his earrings in too - don't worry, he only pierced his ears but evidently more than one piercing on one's ear is very off-putting.) We giggled about that one for hours. :lmao:

To be honest, we just don't see the value of staying in many of the deluxes. We loved Pop Century and were planning on staying at ASMusic for our honeymoon until I started looking around at DVC points. We've since rented points for what I hope to be a lovely stay at AKV. AKL and WL were just more our style although we really liked the music and setting of Boardwalk. (Boardwalk is another story for another day. I don't want to run out of comical stories!)

I do hope everyone who stays at Grand Floridian has a great stay. I just know that we would feel like fish out of water there.

Actually....yes. It was our first exposure to the world of punk in our little TN school!:rotfl:

And, don't forget, the double polo flipped up collar UNDER the oxford shirt, with the monogrammed sweater over the shoulders, just so. With the legwarmers and penny loafers. And the purse with little whales on it that matched the belt with little whales on it. Ah, memories..

OMG, just had a brain flash! I had little blue alligator EARRINGS!!!!:scared1:

Too scary, let's get back to talking about food.

P. S. Just so you know--I did not wear all that stuff at one time, like some people did. Had to clear that up.

Hi, new reader here just discovering the joys of food porn :thumbsup2 . From reading, I understand you and Jay will not be doing another Disney trippie for a while. That's sad, but I'm lucky; I can still read the earlier ones! And Las Vegas would definitely be of interest, as well, if you feel inspired ;) .

Thanks for all the insights and, especially, the chuckles.
