SQUEEEEEEEE!

Check you out, Lovey and Thurston III!

Memo to me: Get a job at Jay's company. I already hit the 15 year mark, and we got some "pick something from the catalog" kind of thing.

Wow, that's great! I was with my agency for 10 years and got a gold pin with a sapphire chip in it. :confused3 Who would wear a social services pin? People would see it and avoid you like the plague!:rotfl:

See, you just thought you wouldn't have anywhere to go but LV this year...now you've got two extra trips this past week! Yay for you!:yay:

My dad used to get those obnoxious pins from his former employer also. Diamonds and sapphires. Soooo, he took them to a jewler and had a ring made for my mom out of the stones and sold the extra scrap gold. It's a beautiful ring.

Way to go on the extra trip Brenda! Whoo hoo!

PS - I told John I thought the whiskey tasting sounded interesting, and he gave me one of these:  "You'd drink whiskey???" Well, I might at WDW!

He LOVED R & C, because he had meat and beer, and good potato soup, and it will always hold a special place in his heart for introducing him to the Black and Tan. "You had me at Guiness." :lmao:

Wave to me when you fly over Orlando....
Actually, we're kind of between Sanford and Orlando, but I'm sure you'll see me anyway :thumbsup2 I'll be the one out in the backyard with a coctail!

Yeah, I hit the 20 year mark at my job, and I got.... to go to work like any other day! Ok, ok, I'm self employed (piano teacher), so that means I'd have to cough up any reward my own self, and I guess I'm just too dadgum cheap for that.

Congrats on 20 years! I am also a piano teacher about to hit 35 years. Looks like the best we can do to celebrate our achievements is to book another trip to WDW! ;)

I'm already eyeballing their restaurant menus and spa list! :rotfl2:

You just wouldn't be our beloved Brenda if you didn't. :goodvibes

That's awesome! Please give Jay a big congratulatory kiss (on the cheek, nothing filthy :lmao: ) for me. :)

Holy Peet-Bogs, Batman! What an amazing review. :worship:

I'm so impressed with your descriptions of the whisk(e)ys and their pairings, you have outdone yourself! Especially the stilton/valhrona dessert paired with Johnny Walker Gold...I mean, if you can make a whisky-noob like me (my husband loves the stuff, but I take a swig and cough) want to buy an $80 bottle of whisk(e)y you must be doing something right.

By the way...isn't Master of Whisky for Florida and the Southeast US like the coolest job ever? I'm just going to imagine how cool I would be...<cue dream sequence in which I am very, very cool>:lmao:

I don't think we need any stinkin' excuse to go to Disney. But maybe it's just me. :rolleyes1

Well don't get the poor guy fired!!! The severance wouldn't even cover your trip to F&W!!!

I don't think we need any stinkin' excuse to go to Disney. But maybe it's just me. :rolleyes1

Nope... it's all of us... we just have to justify it to the non believers... :rolleyes1

agreed! when do we all leave?

Squeeeeee!!

My hubby seriously dislikes Disney. He walked behind me as I was checking out your Scotch pictures. My hubby is a collector of Scotch (not much of a drinker anymore but he continues to buy it :confused3 )...

Anywhooo... he asked what the "deal" was with all the Scotch pictures... so I explained.

Now he wants to book a trip to the W&F Fest!

Nothing better than food porn to get a mans insides stirrin'.

Hi Brenda! I was so excited to see your mention of lardons. We have a similar thing here in Canada, specifically in Newfoundland, that I thought was our secret guilty pleasure/national shame: Scrunchions!!

"Scrunchions is a Newfoundland term for small pieces of pork rind or pork fat-back fried until rendered and crispy. They are often used as a flavoring over other foods, such as salt fish and potatoes. It is mainly used as a condiment for fish and brewis." **

Bottom line: they're deep fried nuggets of back-fat glory.

** Fish and Brewis is a whole 'nother story, one worth reading about here. I was going to explain it, but didn't want to clutter up your thread. I do encourage you to take a look, however. A foodie like you will surely be able to appreciate it's..... rustic, yet sea-worthy, charm.

NB-Pay special attention to the part about the delightful drizzle of rendered and liquid fat! :scared: :rotfl:

Can't wait to read more!!!

Sonia

Hi Sonia - thanks for reading! Isn't it amazing how many different ways human beings have of eating animal fat? Thanks for the link!

Will try to fit that date into my calendar... I hear the lobster is really good...Of course they charge you enough for a first class seat for that creature!!!

How I ever got through St. Pat's day with my new green friend, I will never know... I know...I'll be drinking enough after a few days of living with him...

I may travel overseas, but Mom is ready to man the doorstep and rescue the postman from the Plankster...

Should I PM Karen and ask her advice???

Hope you can make it! As for Planky ... my understanding is that he was the perfect gentleman on their cruise. He's unpredictable, that's all I can say.

Port Wines, now that would be a pairing!! I would jump on this one. I used to buy my dad a bottle of port every Christmas, it was our tradition! Now, I'm hooked. I have done a few 10, 20, 30 year tastings but never with food unless we add our own dessert. But I would love to see what Disney does with it.

You probably don't like the ruby's because they are young, tawnies are more mature. Deeper flavor.

After trying that scotch pairing I've decided that Disney needs to be more creative in their offerings. A port wine pairing with cheese and chocolate and maybe a bread pudding souffle would be terrific (in my humble opinion).

We buy port a lot for my mom but she really likes the rubies ... too sweet for me. I think you hit the nail on the head Jeanne - tawny ports have a better flavor (and I love the color!).

Sounds perfect. Michelle is welcome to tag along, too. I tend to travel freakishly early in the day, so I am guessing to arrive somewhere midday. Plenty of time to freshen up and walk to the Dolphin later, too.

Alrighty then ... table for four and I'll shoot for 7PM. I'll let you know once we hit the 180-day mark.

Well, I don't wake up freakishly early, so I guess I should plan to be there the day before!!!

Adding on extra days at WDW is always a good thing ... maybe you can add it to your expense accout. ;)

SQUEEEEEEEE! Check you out, Lovey and Thurston III!

Memo to me: Get a job at Jay's company. I already hit the 15 year mark, and we got some "pick something from the catalog" kind of thing.

Thanks for the vacation squeeeeee! I worked at the same company for more than a year before I took Jay's resume in and the rest is history. They dumped their underwriting function or I might still be there, too ... but then again ... probably not. My personality didn't really fit there very well (it's a still pretty much a man's place over there).

My company is a pick a prize from the catalogue, too. I hit the 5-year mark in July ... I wonder how I will be able to choose between the fake pearls and the electric can opener???

Wow, that's great! I was with my agency for 10 years and got a gold pin with a sapphire chip in it. Who would wear a social services pin? People would see it and avoid you like the plague!:rotfl:

See, you just thought you wouldn't have anywhere to go but LV this year...now you've got two extra trips this past week! Yay for you!

I've always wondered why companies give those pins. I worked for one bank that did that - after one year of service they gave employees the pin (and expected us to wear them every day ... you will be assimilated ...). After each 5, 10, 15-year etc... anniversary they would give employees a "diamond" chip to add to the pin. Who wants that? I'd rather have the three dollars they spent on my gift so that I can go to Starbucks and buy a latte!

Thanks for the good vacation vibes!!

My dad used to get those obnoxious pins from his former employer also. Diamonds and sapphires. Soooo, he took them to a jewler and had a ring made for my mom out of the stones and sold the extra scrap gold. It's a beautiful ring.

Way to go on the extra trip Brenda! Whoo hoo!

Now that's a lovely idea - your dad is a sweetheart! And thanks for the happy vacation vibes!

"You had me at Guiness."

Too funny! Whisky paired with food is totally different than just drinking whisky because you want some alcohol. I never thought that I'd like it as much as I do, but having it paired with seafood and chocolate made me realize just how good it can be!

WoooHOOOOOO!!!:woohoo:

Go Jay!!!!

YeeHAW Free Vacation!!!

Happy DANCE!!!!:dancer: party:

Thank you for the pre-vacation party, Miss Cammy!! :goodvibes

Wave to me when you fly over Orlando....
Actually, we're kind of between Sanford and Orlando, but I'm sure you'll see me anyway - I'll be the one out in the backyard with a coctail!

Excellent! I'll be sure to look for the sun glinting off an ice cube in a backyard as we fly over! :rotfl2:

Yeah, I hit the 20 year mark at my job, and I got.... to go to work like any other day! Ok, ok, I'm self employed (piano teacher), so that means I'd have to cough up any reward my own self, and I guess I'm just too dadgum cheap for that.

Lots of piano teachers here ... have I ever mentioned that Jason plays the piano beeeee-yooooooooou-teeeeeeeee-fully?

Congrats on 20 years! I am also a piano teacher about to hit 35 years. Looks like the best we can do to celebrate our achievements is to book another trip to WDW!

I think you and Litebrite need to set up a piano teachers convention at WDW! :goodvibes

You just wouldn't be our beloved Brenda if you didn't. :goodvibes

That's awesome! Please give Jay a big congratulatory kiss (on the cheek, nothing filthy :lmao: ) for me.

Thanks, Mim! One of the really cool things I found is that the Boca Raton Resort is going to be opening a restaurant by Iron Chef Morimoto!!! How cool is that? I wanna go! And I gave Jay and quick little peck on the cheek yesterday and said, "This is a congratulatory offering from a friend on the DIS."

He said thanks. :goodvibes

Holy Peet-Bogs, Batman! What an amazing review. :worship:

Hey there Heidi - thanks for stopping by! Glad you liked the scotch review, but I had some help with those descrptions (I love tasting notes). Having said that ... start with the $45 bottle (Glenkinchie ... a 10-year) and see if you like that one. And have some desert with it!!!

And yes ... Master of Whisky for FL would be an awesome job ... I'll share it with you if you'd like. ;)

PS. holy peat bog, batman... :rotfl2: I'm still cracking up!

I don't think we need any stinkin' excuse to go to Disney. But maybe it's just me.

No excuses necessary - people never feel the urge to explain why they travel anywhere else, do they?

Well don't get the poor guy fired!!! The severance wouldn't even cover your trip to F&W!!!

Oh no, nothing to worry about there. We'd still have to cover the cost of anything extra - the company just covers the cost of the hotel and airfare (unless Jay knows something I don't ... in which case I'll take one of those all day beauty packages at the spa and six bottles of champagne with some caviar, and don't skimp on the creme fraiche). :lmao:

Nope... it's all of us... we just have to justify it to the non believers... :rolleyes1

Don't justify it to anyone ... just do it because you enjoy it! :goodvibes

agreed! when do we all leave?

Well, I don't have any lessons this afternoon.......

Well, if you guys are going have a rip-roaring good time!!
