Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Just got back from the theaters and thought it was great! I liked the first one, but loved this one! I can understand the crying though, I never cry during movies but I was def on the verge for a lot of this. I read the books so I knew how it was going to end, but I was still on the edge of my seat the whole time.

I have high hopes for Catching Fire, it was my favorite book of the series. I HATED MockingJay so not looking forward to the movie at all and the fact they split it into 2..How? lol

I have to agree about mocking jay, I wasn't crazy about it and kind of struggled to get through it. It was a very different story concept and the character connections had changed so much. I may need to re-read it to get a better idea how they'll split it up. With HP I felt like dealthy hallows 1 wasn't great, felt like a lot of filler. I'm worried that will happen here too.

I wish the last book would only be one movie also.

I know of a few areas near the middle that it would be fine to stop to make 2 movies though.

Plus, the movies are not exactly like the books, so I am sure they will figure out stuff to add to the movie(s) to make them more exciting and/or long.

My daughter and I went to see Catching Fire as soon as she got out of school Friday. We both LOVED it!!! Jennifer Lawrence's acting was amazing, and I could actually feel her connection with Gale and Peeta this time (books and the first movie not so much). I liked this movie better than the book - the elevator scene made me almost pee my pants! :rotfl2:
Like others have said, I don't know how they're going to make Mockingjay into a movie, let alone two. And it is so different than the other two, but we'll see what they do. 2 years is too long to wait for the end, though.

I thought they did a great job as well. Even though I read the books many times and knew what was going to happen I did cry at certain parts.

I think they are splitting MockingJay into two movies purely due to the length of the book. Catching Fire was 146 mins and I think in order to not have a 3 and a half hour movie, they had to split them.

The only reason there will be two movies for final book is money alone. Sure, the last movie may be long if made into one, but money is the motivating factor.

If any of the books should be split into 2 movies, it should have been Catching Fire. Don't get me wrong, we LOVED it! It was must better than Hunger Games for sure. But there are so many things that get left out that would have answered a lot of questions for those that have not read the books yet. Or maybe it's just that I HAVE read the books and think that there are things that shouldn't be left out.

Either way, I think it was well done and had us on the edge of our seats, even though my sister and I KNEW what was going to happen!! We both spent much of it tearing up and occasionally let a tear slip out. (My sister is nearly 16 and I'm 35...different mom's but we are super close). She and I agree that it was more emotional SEEING what was going on than it was as we read the books.

Mockingjay is my least favorite of all of the books and we both agreed that is the one that least needs to be split into two movies.

I also disliked Mockingjay and I think that, sadly, the book failed because Collins attempted to write her own plot without lifting most of the ideas from someone else (as she did in Hunger Games and Catching Fire), and she's just not a good author when she's on her own.

We liked the movie here as well. I don't get the crying though....since I knew what was going to happen (having read the books), I don't understand it? Plus, we weren't that emotionally invested in any of the characters that died this time. Maybe by the time they get to what I'm sure will be the 4th installment of the movie, there will be tears, by not this one.

I do see a natural break in Mockingjay for two movies, but I suspect movie 3 will be (in the main) fairly dull. No games, etc. I'm sure the focus will be mainly on Peeta and the complex interplay between the three main characters.

Anyway, I came away with even more respect for Jennifer Lawrence. She is quite a good actress, I think.

Have any of you seen this....it's hilarious on whether she should choose Gale or Peeta...

Saw it last night. Thought it was really good. I like Jennifer Lawrence, she's turned out to be a good little actress.

I just hope that they can do something with Mockingjay to make it a better story for the movie than what the book was. I think the author rushed to get a resolution and didn't do a very good job of writing the ending.

Guess I'll be the dissenting opinion here... luckily that's a role I'm comfortable with, lol. :thumbsup2

I can't see them *not* making Mockingjay into 2 movies, and was worried they were going to try and cram it all into one. There is a lot to delve into in that book, and glossing over any of it would dilute the storyline. And as for it being "dull," I would think the special effects for the part where they're making their way to the Capitol will be pretty amazing!

But man, parts of that one are going to be awfully hard to watch...

Totally agree, she was amazing, and I got the connection with Peeta I wanted so much in the first film. I have never really been a Gale/Katniss fan though, and Liam is just kind of filler to me.

I also agree here. Even though Mockingjay was my least favorite of the books, its there and it deserves to be done as well as possible. I think there is a ton of material to cover, and I like when they make it into two films. It gives them much more time to get it all in there without having to cut things out.

I liked the first movie, I LOVED this movie, it was fantastic. And yes, I got teary a couple of times too.

Ohhhh, I loved Catching Fire! Loved it! I definitely feel it was better than the first one. I also agree that the connection between Katniss and Peeta was very clear this time around. The 2 1/2 hours flew by too! Excellently filmed this time as well, without all that herky-jerky motion like the first one. It stayed pretty true to the book as well.

Mockingjay was my least favorite of the three books too. It felt disjointed and rushed. So much was happening that I can certainly can see splitting it into two films. They could spend half a movie on just the way they tortured Peeta and altered his memories of Katniss. I am so happy they are doing in two films!

Funny side note....when I saw it with my DH (whose never read the books) he commented that the relationship between Katniss, Peeta and Gale was like the Bella, Edward and Jacob love soup from Twilight.:rotfl2: Oh the things I make my poor DH watch with me!

Just got back from seeing it with my ds, so much better than the first movie. I definitely felt more for the characters in this one, and I'm not familiar with the actor that plays Finnick but I enjoyed the eye candy ;)
I'm already looking forward to the next two.

Finnick was one of my favourite characters from the book. I was happy with the actor they chose. He was really great.
