Humidifier

It's that time of year again. I need to find a humidifier before we all turn to dust.

I am always confused as to Hot vs. Cold.
I know one is supposed to be a bacteria breeder but which one?? The hot one??

any recommendations for me?
I have kids and pets so I was thinking cold would be better in theory just for safety from burns but I don't know.

Cold to avoid burns. I use our every night all year long.

We have the cold type and I believe it is a Hunter. It's about time to dig it out of storage. Ours has a filter/wick thing that is permanent and can be put in the dishwasher to clean and sterilize. My Scottie has itchy skin and the humidifier really helps his skin. It also helps the people in the house as well.

I have 3 humidifiers in our house. 1 in each bedroom and 1 in the living room. They are the cold type. They are Holmes.
