HS Moonlight Magic

I also wonder when some people had multiple windows open like me does that count as some who "booked" if number 4300 got in, but I had 4 numbers from my original 428 through 4200 and closed them out does that mean less than 4300 actual people booked?

If someone doesn’t book on a number it just gets skipped, but from what I understand it can recalculate it.

For example, I had one around 2800…but my first was 1208… once 2800 came up, and it didn’t get used, it meant 2900 became the 2800 one in line and kept going.

So, if it stopped at 4300, it means that 4300 memberships were entered for tickets.

I understand the 4300 was the approximate initial number and they were able to register for tickets

Along the way if 300 devices drop-out without getting tickets, then there ends up being 3999 members in front of them that got tickets.

When the line is paused and the number in front of you decreases, I presume that's primarily devices in front of me dropping out as more people aren't being let in when the line is paused.

It is maximum of 5 or more if on your reservation. We have a 2 bedroom with 7 people and that is what I was allowed to register.
We have exactly the same situation.
4 adults, 6, 5, and 1 year olds. Although age was not part of the registration.

Great point, there are people in que with doubles and triple devices the drop out.

If Park Capacity: 60,000 (referenced here, here, here) and Moonlight Magic is 1/2 capacity - that would be 30,000 tix.

If we assume ~20k from above (5 guest per 4,000 = 20,000)) - Rough estimate - understanding some are more than 5 guests, some are less than 5 guests and some of the 4,300 are duplicates in the queue.

That leaves about 10,000 tickets. I wonder if some are reserved for VIP's or some other pre-registry.
More likely, the numbers are completely different.

With some owners opening up multiple web browsers, multiple "slots" are eventually dropped with no MM reservation made. Also, I doubt the average party size is 5-6. The majority of DVC villas have a max party size of 4 (studios, many one bedrooms) and many of those parties are actually 2-3 people. Not everyone maxes out their room capacity. Last time we went to Moonlight Magic, we had 5 people in a two bedroom.

More slots dropping out and lower party size would mean much less than 20k (maybe 15K) were reserved during with an existing booking option.

Yes, and I suspect it’s much lower than 20k. The average daily attendance at DHS is around 28K. And that’s with people coming-and-going throughout a 12+ hour operating day. If you draw 20K people into that park for a 3-hour event, every attraction would instantly have wait time of more than an hour.

I know people don’t like not getting into a Moonlight Magic event when it happens to overlap with their visit. But DVC is wise to balance the quality of the experience with that member disappointment. There are now around 5000 DVC villas at WDW. Even when eliminating renters, resale owners and other ineligible guests, you can’t just invite everyone to a single park and have a satisfying night. People don’t go to MM expecting lines to be just as long, if not longer, than during normal hours.

A few planning questions for anyone who has attended before -

The park hours are listed as running until 9PM, with a special event at 9:30 PM.

  • How early do you anticipate attendees could enter the park?
  • Does it become a crazy hot long line super early like MNSSHP?
  • And if so, if you have a park ticket or hopper, is there usually a place in the park to get your wristband?

Thanks!

I expect early entry to begin around 7 pm.
Yes, there will be a long line prior to 7 pm. DVC has been pretty good about having enough CMs working check in to keep the line moving.
Yes, there is usually a place inside the theme park where you can check in. The in-park location typically opens before the one outside.

I know they probably change the in park registration from time to time. but I was wondering if anyone will have an idea of where it might be? We are AP holders and we will probably be in the park before 7pm. This will be our 1st MM .

DVC will send an email prior to the event with checkin locations, including at least one within the park.

Thank you

IIRC, for 2023 the in-park check in location was near Tower of Terror.

Yes. We had 2 numbers under 4300 that we never used. Closing the window doesn’t close your spot. If you re-click the link it will take you right back to your place in line so I question whether this number is even this high.

What happens if I want to change my hotel reservation? Will I lose my MM registration?

I'd be modifying I guess, but switching to a different DVC resort. Same points, same membership.
