Help! My youngest of four is graduating this weekend and I have no idea what to get her! Jewelry? A weighted blanket? We have never spent huge amounts for graduation-usually $100ish.

What did you get your graduate?

What did you give the older three? We didn't give a specific gift other than the hosting the typical open house reception. My D's might have liked jewelry- for Christmas we gave DD21 a necklace with a large initial set at an angle- she wears it every day.

Ours all got laptop upgrades to take to college. Daughter just graduated in May, but got her laptop at Christmas.

I decorated the outside of our house big for her this year as she had accomplished a lot and have spent about $400 already on dorm stuff she'll need. DH upgraded his car this year and she got DH's old one (she upgraded too from a 2002 Accord to a 2014 Corolla), we are getting a new windshield and hubcaps for it.

But a true "gift", no.

Dd got a new, more powerful computer. It's a necessity for her degree though, so not much of a gift. She's a huge coffee drinker, though, so I got her a nice coffee pot/espresso maker. Her birthday is this week, so I let her pick out a computer bag, and got her a good travel coffee thermos that reviews say is spill proof so she can carry it around campus.

Is there anything specific that you know she has been wanting? Even if it costs more than $100, you could give her a gift card to get her started toward her goal. We gave one of our grads a $100 Visa gift card, thinking that it was just a practical gift right now and could be used for many things. Grad's mom told us recently that he is hanging on to that gift -- it is very special to him because it is a big first step toward a cherished dream.

We got DS a MacBook for college.

We also threw him a huge party. We rented a hall, had a DJ, etc. He used the cash gifts to buy his first used car.

DD starts high school this year and when she graduates she’ll get a MacBook too.

We give cash for high school and college graduations. Both are huge personal landmarks with big things following, and cash works for just about anybody.

If you want to buy a present, I think a lot will depend on how much you have to spend and what's next for the graduate. If they are going to college, that's one scenario. If college, whether they are going locally, nearby, or distant makes a big difference. If they have other plans, those will change their needs considerably.

Bottom line, you know your offspring better than any of us, and whatever you do will be perfect!

Thanks for the reminder! we got laptops for the older three, in fact we already got Caroline her grad gift a bit early. Her birthday was in December so we got her laptop early. I have a bracelet that I bought on FB that has covid reference on the inside. Very pretty. Maybe I'll all set then.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

A girl? (you mentioned jewellery). I would agree, maybe a pair of real gold earrings or a pearl pendant, something like that. It would be something she'd have forever.

We asked our son what he wanted, offering things like a DSLR camera or a new ipad, but in the end he didn't want those things. He's really outdoorsy and likes hiking, etc, so we got him a large swiss army knife. It was $130CAD, so nowhere near the price of the items offered, but he loves it. The grin on his face was worth it.

So, get something she would really appreciate. It doesn't have to cost a fortune, just be something she might not buy for herself. Otherwise, money always works.

Did you read the OP. Looking for gift ideas about $100- obviously a MacBook is way above that and your huge bash for your DS pre-COVID is immaterial to this and a huge not necessary brag.

The question was : what did you get your graduate? So I answered. Did you see other posters that also got their graduates a laptop? But you call me out? And the OP got her other kids laptops for their grad gifts and remembered she got her daughter a laptop at Christmas so no need for another gift. There was no bragging. Relax.

OP did NOT ask for party details or ideas. OP clearly asked what you got graduate but not party ideas nor anywhere did she ask about party. So yes that point is unnecessary or just say you had a party no need to mention the DJ, hall etc especially now. I stand by unnecessary and bragging

sorry to upset you with my post. Lol. Some of you seriously need to ease up and stop tripping over every little thing.

Graduation was this past Saturday and I totally dropped the ball on a gift. I only have one child too, so you think I would have been able to handle it. Something I am looking at now is a customized Yeti. Customization is FREE through Wednesday. He really needs something to keep water cold for marching band week, so a Yeti it is. Dad and I also threw around the idea of a Shinola watch as there is one that gives a nod to his university, but we haven't done that and really wondering if he will even wear a watch. It is so classic though! Covid has really messed with my decision making skills!!

FWIW, my kids all find watches completely anachronistic. With a phone constantly on you, why have a separate thing just to tell time? They think it's funny I still wear one.

I didn’t get anything. Maybe mac and cheese and ramen, so you can prepare them for the next decade of their life. :)

Some grad gifts my DD has loved...Cash, a suitcase style backpack or travel bag, solar phone charger, gift certificate to grub hub, Bluetooth speaker, photobook of senior year.
