We stayed at the RP last year and we liked it, but we were thinking about trying out the HRH for our 2005 trip. The standard rooms seem to be the same size, so is it worth the extra $30-$40 difference in price?

$30-$40 I would say yes if you like the atmosphere at HRH, which we do. My kids (8,10,12) absolutley love the place, they say it's cool. I haven't actually stayed at the RPR, but I did attend a week long conference there and I choose to stay at the HRH and commute to the conference everyday.

It's much easier to get to the parks from the HRH and the Palm restaurant is very good. The pool with underwater music and the general atmosphere is nice. If you have kids and can get a deal I recommend getting one of the 500+ sq. ft rooms that have a sleeper sofa plus 2 queen beds, it gives you much more space to spread out !

Wherever you stay you should try Mama Della's at the PBH, it's very good italian restaurant.

We've stayed at both. HRH on the club level and RPR in a waterview room. We prefered RPR hands down to HRH. We found that HRH's staff was aloof (I think they were supposed to be cool, but they came off as aloof). We loved the atmosphere at RPR and the staff. It felt very welcoming. We are returning to RPR in 4 weeks for a surprise trip.

The only difference for me is in who's coming along - when teen DS (musician) comes he just LOVES the HRH - we have been very fortunate that all of the staff we have dealt with there have been wonderful (and they are cool!) - I know many complain about an aloof attitude, though, so it must be there - just not our experience on our stays.
This trip taking my DNeph (7) and my sis - we're staying at RPR, not just to save $$ (although we are), but because I know my DN will love the pool area at RPR more than HRH (slides are not a big draw for him) - and going off season I don't need to rent a cabana to stay out of the sun (I do prefer the cabanas at HRH hands down)!
Both hotels are beautiful and unique and I am happy at either, they just have different atmospheres! Whichever one you decide on, take a boat ride over to the other and check it out, or have a meal there. :smooth:

WE loved the HRH and were hesitant to try the RPR. We stayed at the RPR last summer and LOVED it!! Much more relaxed atmosphere. The walk to the park was not bad at all and there were the water taxis if we were too tired to walk back. We loved our meals at Tchoup Chop. Also enjoyed Islands restaurant at RPR.
