HRH Beachclub and 22% gratuity question....

OK, so we are at HRH now and were lounging by the pool and looking at the beachclub menu and noticed that they charge an automatic 22% gratuity to the bill . We didn't order anything because that seems insane on top of the already ridiculous drink and food prices (IMO ), so I have a few questions:

1. Am I then supposed to tip on top of that 22%; and

2. If you sit at a table up in the resturant part of the beachclub, do they still charge that 22% or is that just for delivery down by the pool?

We always eat at a table close to the pool for my son. There is an 18% tip on the bill in there this pat July. I hope it's not up to 22%.

You definately don't need to add any additional tip. In fact, if it's truly a gratuity, you have the right to decrease it. It's probably that high due to the poolside location. But, it's a good point...always check your bills for that sneaky automatic gratuity.

Unfortunately, they do that built-in gratuity on a do-it-yourself beer too. Went for a smokebreak walk and got one to go at the bar, in my own plastic cup... like $8 or so.
When server delivers to us by pool, we usually give extra (if they're goood).
That was June & it was still 18%. Hate to hear 22!

We were just there and it was 18%, poolside and at the bar/tables. We didn't tip on top of that. The 18% was also added automatically at Pastamore, but not at Marguritaville.

No worries. Grabbed an app yesterday up at a table and it's still 18% up there.

Just wanted to note that we did grab and app at the beachside club at a table and our server pointed out that the 18% was added to the bill. since all we ordered was an order of nachos and a few non alcholic drinks, i didn't add any extra to that. The menus up there said 18%, however the menus that they use down by the pool do state 22% (and yes, room service is 22% plus $3...insane).

i did not notice any gratuity added to our bill at the Kitchen, nor at any of the resturants at Citywalk, but we were a party of 3 and the menues stated that it would be automatic for parties of 6 or more.

They said it was automatic since we were a party of 6 or more. I asked if we should reorder separately and that I had all order at once since I thought it would be easier for them. They took it off the bill, but only after a lot of time since I had charged to the room. We will see if it worked at check out. We always tip there since they bring your food out, but were shocked by seeing that on the bill at a place of that nature.

We never have more than 3 people eating there so have never had that charge but I certainly will watch for it. We eat at Sal's at least twice a vacation.

I wonder if whoever was at the cash just pressed the wrong button for it. It just doesn't make any sense at all.

We were just at the HRH in July for 8 days - every single day whether it was at our lounge chairs or at the bar, we were reminded that 18% was added to the bill. We are usual 20% tippers anyway, so it was not a big deal and the servers and bartenders are well worth it! We like that they remembered us everyday and knew what day we were taking our daughter for a school visit at UCF. Very friendly!

Also, my husband just returned from Germany recently,and I have also traveled to Europe, and tipping is not really recognized there, as they don't pay their servers a measly $2.35/hour or whatever it is now. Just keep that in mind.

I wondered about this and had this same discussion about it with my cousin who spent almost all summer in Italy and England and he said that tipping isn't a customary practice overseas.

I am from England, and although there is not a big fuss over tipping, it's generally accepted that a good tip is 10-12%.

Some places do stick an automatic tip on their bills.

Although saying that, the level of service in England (and probably the general quality of eating out) is far lower than in the USA, the staff are generally young people/students who can't really be bothered if you're served well and it's "just a job" if that makes sence.

You do occasionally get really nice staff, and if that's the case I always leave a reasonable tip.
