How's your stock portfolio

Based on the news from last night and how the street is reacting today I say my protfolio is :laundy:

Fabulous! I am up huge YTD.

Of course I moved out of the market last week and will move back in a bit.

(but I do that every election and take advantage of market unrest)

My Stock Portfolio is doing Great. We are double where we were back in 2008 when the market fell. Days like today when the market dives, I don't even bother to look. As our investment adviser told us, day to day doesn't matter.
:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

This is us! Overall we are way up from 4 years ago. I don't sweat the day to day fluctuations, quit doing that years ago. We have an investment banker that we trust. We joke with him saying "We know you want us to do well, because that helps you.".

Don't really know. This may be bad but I have 20 years before I retire...long enough for everything to bounce back. Any extra $$ invested is just that. Extra money for unexpected house repairs, good travel deals, etc. We try not to touch it.

Besides that is what our financial manager is for. This is included in the annual low maintenance fees that most brokerage firms charge.

It's funny you posted this because I just happened to look at my statement today and almost pooped my pants!! Biggest monthly increase I think I've ever seen. Maybe something big happened within my companies that I wasn't aware of. Nice surprise for me :goodvibes.

Over 300 point loss today. Pretty much wiped out the last 3 months' gains. Lowest level since early August.

Definitely down today, but I'm not surprised.

I've always been a big believer in the stock market, but I'm not nearly as confident these past few years. We've decided to cut back a ton on our spending (canceling household construction projects, canceling domestic trips, etc.) to save more money in these uncertain times, but what to do with the money? That's the question. Our mattress is looking better and better! :lmao:

I was pleasantly surprised to find that my fund only lost 1.44% today... hopefully the smart folks employed to do this day-in-and-day-out will snap up some bargains in the panic selling...

I was among the many who lost 1/3 of my retirement investments' value in 2008, but since I won't be retirement age for a loonnnnggg time, there was plenty of time to "ride-it-out". That said, we didn't get back to "break-even" until LAST YEAR! It sucked seeing all that money gone and thinking how much fun I could have had losing it myself in Vegas, instead of having it lost for me... I'd love to never go through that again...

Here's hoping things settle down quickly, and if not, that they don't bottom out until I have some spare cash to buy in :) There should be an emoticon for a greedy Mr Burns type rubbing his hands maniacally...

While both the DW and I have major 401k's and a small DRIP stock portfolio...
I like Physical Silver.
If, and it is a Very Big If, the day comes when our paper dollars and 401k statements are only good for starting your cooking fire...or lighting your torches to keep the Zoombies at bay...well...we have have some real assets.

I buy from ebay when I have a few extra dollars @ the end of each quarter.
I buy from sellers that have free shipping and I will pay no more than 10% over the spot price for US Eagles or CA Maple Leafs.

My 401k & my stock portfolio today???
I did not look...
I would be living on Scotch & Pepto Bismo if I looked every day...:)

I don't look every day anymore-that is crazy making. Up hugely over four or five years ago, and I've done great this year.

Actually mine is doing quite well also.

Can I ask why people are basing their replies on 1 day? Every one seems to be concerned about yesterdays plunge?

Anyhoo my 401K is up about 4% including yesterdays ding, so I'm good.

I'm moving stuff into more conservative, less risk accounts as hopefully I'll retire in about 5 years depending on how the kiddies do in college.

Usually a single day's up or down is not remarkable. A huge drop after a major event is noteworthy. It speaks to what Wall Street interprets that event will mean going forward. Since these are the people who traditionally drive the economy, you would be foolish not to take notice. Look deeper at the stocks that were hurt the worst.

What people who are so happy about their current levels fail to realize is that much of the increase in the dollar value of stocks over the past few years had come from the Fed devaluing the dollar by printing more money. It has little to do with the market rallying. Other economic indicators point in the opposite direction.

It's doing well! I just checked and I am up about 10% for the year. And doing much better than after the last election...
