How's Everyone Doing Out There? (Blizzard)

Still snowing here..and the pile on my birdbath now measures 26". I am almost half way done shoveling the driveway, only problem is I can't throw it high enough to get it over the sides anymore, lol. I've had enough winter and this is only our first storm :(

We are in MD and have about 10 inches. The wind is picking up and the snow just blows this way and that. I am keeping my girls busy with frosting and pretzels to make Ft Wildetness cabins!

We're in Mercer County is the 20+ inches bubble. It's coming down sideways now and the wind is howling. We have a mini doxie, I already pulled out his puppy pads because he won't likely be willing to go out the front door.

Stay safe and warm everyone.

We have 2 cats. The younger boy uses the little box, but the chubby 9 year old girl cat prefers to go outside. She HATES the snow. We have to carry her out a few times a day and put her in an area we cleared in one of the flower beds. Then we carry her back inside.

In western Richmond, Virginia, we have 16 inches so far. Our totals are a little lower than expected because we had snow, 6 hours of freezing rain last night, followed by more snow. The snow is expected to continue falling until late tonight.

We are having fun watching the "50 Years of James Bond" box set I got DH for Christmas!

About 9 AM today. Fells Point area of Baltimore. That's the neighbor's dog. It started snowing again about noon.

Here in Nashville we got about 8 inches before the snow ended last night. Today is sunny but not much is really melting. Our church even canceled services for tomorrow, that never happens. Looking forward to 60 degree weather next weekend.

We are in northern Montgomery County, MD (just outside DC) and have at least 18 inches; maybe more since it's hard to measure with all the wind blowing the snow around.

So far, so good as to electric and internet status. I hope they stay on but we have often lost power in less than this including a record 5 days after the Durecho in June, 2008. Our power company was one of the worst service rated companies in the US at that time but the company has since worked to trim overhanging trees etc. which has reduced the power outages quite a bit. I still worry because we are at the mercy of long, electric lines that can blow down, weigh down with snow and ice and be damaged by vehicles.

DS went out and used the snowblower on our 250 ft. driveway this morning so that cleaning it tomorrow won't be as hard. We also had to open the window in my craft room upstairs to reach out and try to clear the 2 ft+ drifts off the screened room roof. That was fun!

Stay inside everyone and be safe!

Picture below taken at 9 AM this morning before winds began and 10 more inches of snow:

South Jersey (Burlington County) here too. We are right outside Philadelphia. We are forecasted to get 18-24inches. Here are some picture from the front and back of our apartment building. Let's share some more photos on here. :goodvibes

Burlington County here as well. About 15" at this point with the last band coming through. Have been in all day and staying safe and warm. It's a big storm and seems to be on the lower end of the prediction. Fine by me. Just saw pictures of the flooding in Ocean City, NJ.....awful. Hope people are safe and not too much damage.

We are in the county about 30 minutes from Baltimore, MD and not sure how much snow we have. Unfortunately we lost our dog on Thursday. She was 13 years old and was a golden retriever/greyhound mix we adopted from our local shelter 9 1/2 years ago. She started acting weird a few weeks ago. She would just go stand in a corner and get stuck because she lost the ability to know how to back up, would just pace in a room and go the same route over and over again not caring if something was in her way and then go to the next room and the cycle would continue over and over until she got tired or fell and couldn't get herself back up, tried to fit through small spaces among other things. We called the vet and she suspected dementia. But, when we actually brought her in she thought it was a lot more than that possibly a brain tumor. She kept her overnight last Thursday into Friday to do bloodwork and run tests to rule out other things but they came back fine so she said a neurologist would have to run tests. For the scans she would need she would have had to be put to sleep but might not wake up and if it was a tumor they would not operate anyway due to her age so we decided not to put her through that and just keep her comfortable at home. During this past week she kept getting worse and worse so we made the difficult decision to have her put down so she would not continue to suffer. We have had a hard time dealing with this and being stuck in the house is not helping. Sorry, I didn't mean to depress everyone. We do want to adopt another dog soon as it will help us to feel better knowing we saved another dog.

Sounds like she was great, had a wonderful life and great parents...Hang in there:)

Just found out that my cousin is there on business. He mentioned that this is all new to everyone and no one knows what to do. My cousin is originally from here in NY but moved to Alaska when he was 12. So he's used to this type of weather.

:grouphug: CynBeth: Never depressed by hearing of loving, caring pet owners faced with the difficult decisions when their pet is in pain. Empathy can always be found here on the Dis. My condolences for your loss.

Here in Southern Maryland, we ended up with about 15 inches. We were in the 20"-30" zone but it seems that never actually happens. It's still quite a bit and with the sleet that came in the middle, the snow is heavy and hard to shovel. Tomorrow will not be fun for sure.

He is right. Nashville doesn't do snow well. We haven't had a snow like this since 2003 so not much practice.

Aw, we had to put our 14 year old dog down 2 years ago in a similar situation. Such a tough call, but in the end it seemed selfish to put him through any more just because we didn't want him to go. We have 2 dogs and a cat now, but he will always remain one of the great loves of my life  hugs and may happy memories begin to fill the sad places quickly for you..
